The longer I hang around this place, the more annoyed I get at how "entitled" some fans act.
Some of you practically demand that he call YOU and ask permission to make decisions...

I don't get why some Prince fans have to act like he is the only musician in the world... rolleyes

Why all the hate?

I loved having the chance to see Lala Hathaway, Maceo, Sheila E., Larry Graham, and Cassandra Wilson. (I got caught in traffic and missed Esperanza Spalding).

They are all wonderful musicians/artists...

For what we paid for the tix, any extra music that we got was a treat. music

(And Shelby, Liv and Elisa have amazing voices. Their harmony was SICK!)

WE SAW PRINCE AND HE PUT ON A HELL OF A SHOW...

You can always make the decision to not pay and stay home.... He'll still play and invite whomever he wants even if you're not there. wink

Prince announced who was going to be involved on this tour long before the tickets went on sale.

If you were not feeling the people he's cluttering his stage with then WHY DID YOU BUY A TICKET?

He clearly said Maceo Parker, Larry Graham and the others. They were not thrown in at the last minute as surprise guests!

When eye go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all heart up in the house but when eye log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

Speak on it! Yes! I am sure other artists who have vast catalogs (i.e. Bon Jovi, Stevie Wonder, Sting, Earth, Wind & Fire, Lionel Richie, Aerosmith, Rolling Stones, Kiss, Chaka Khan, etc) fans are not moaning and complaining that they didn't do this or that in their setlists the way certain fans do here.

Nick Ashford was someone I greatly admired, had the honor of knowing, and was the real-life inspiration for Cowboy Curtis' hair. RIP Nick. - Pee Wee Herman

What exactly is "ignorant?" If someone doesn't like Larry Graham's presence on stage, does that make the person ignorant? It's a matter of personal taste. I agree that every person Prince invites on stage has awesome talent. I won't deny that. But I personally don't like what they bring to the stage.

Every fan who isn't a drone or a sheep has various opinions about what they like and don't like. I have never been to a concert by ANY artist who did everything perfectly according to my own personal tastes. Sometimes it's enough for the good to outweigh the bad.

Ignorant comes from the Latin ignorans, which basically means not to know. The word can be used to describe a groups general lack of knowledge as well as an individual's lack of specific or important information.

You asked why Prince need all them ***** on stage with him. Not whether he finds them good, talented or presentable on stage. My answer is that as an audience we can only see what is presented to us, which normally is a 2 hours show. If we listen and look carefully, we might get a glimpse of the interaction and the communication between the musicians. But we really don't know what happens back- and offstage, and I believe that the answer to why Prince needs all them ***** on stage with him, should partly be found in what takes place behind the scenes, at rehearsals for instance. There are many things we ignorant fans don't understand.

I don't know if I necessarily have such a problem with the number of people on stage, but the type of people. When Prince had the large crews back in the late 80's, it was kinda cool because they all gelled together evenly.

Chocolate 1, from what I'm getting from Callme's comments, it seems he's one of those fans that want the 80s Wendy & Lisa Prince back and seems to be having a hard time accepting that Prince has moved on, grown and trying different styles with his music, as well as, surrounding himself with musicians he obviousl feels comfortable with and admires. I may be wrong, but that's how orger "Callme.." is coming across. I don't recall a bulletin going out to fans from Prince, requesting their permission as to what style of music he should be allowed to play, how many artists/musicians he should be limited to perform with, what "type" of individuals/musicians/artists/friends he should only associate with, based on a "fan's" preferences or if he needs anyone persmission to exist as a human being with his own mind, body and spirit

What "type" of musicians/artists Prince should choose to associate with, perform or promote is never the decision of a fan where an artist is concerned. Fans don't have the right to think they can control the daily existence and decisions of an artist they favor, adore or respect. Sure we are all entitled to our opinion(s) and can criticize an artist's music/work, but we don't get to choose which musician an artist makes the personal decision to be on stage with, perform or be in his company. We all have our "tastes" in music and favorite songs we all would love to hear, and sometimes that wish comes true during an artist's performance and other times it just doesn't.

Thing is, during the initial announcement of the W2A tour, it was made perfectly clear which artists would be opening/performing with Prince in this concert series, it wasn't kept secretive. The only info not given early on, was which artist(s) was going to perform on certain nights of the concert series. As far as his current band members and singers, it is obvious he's comfortable with them, and it's not all the time fans will appreciate or embrace other artists that Prince lets the light shine on, since he's been successful with having the light shine on him , as a musician/artist over the years. It's also nice to see an artist at his level, open the door for other artists, who may not have the chance to be recognized or promoted by those within this music industry, and many of us know how the music industry can be these days, especially with the manufactured talent they often promote over real and gifted talent these days.

You don't seem to understand how it works. I tell Prince what I want and he MUST deliver everything I demand 100%. Back in the day, if I wanted a ride to the mall, I'd call Prince on the phone, he'd fly in from Minneapolis and ride me over to the mall on his motorcycle. And if I needed a wingman when hanging out with chicks, he'd come over and bang the fatties.

The same goes for his music and who he puts on stage. I approved every member of his past bands and all the songs he played. But we had a falling out a few years back over who had nicer feet and he won't listen to me anymore. Hopefully one day he'll come around and obey my orders again.

For me the annoying part of recent tours are the unecessary solo's he has to give everyone on stage. Its a momentum killer eveytime. Unless theres a costume change for the man theres no reason to have Renato tickle the ivory's for more than 5 minutes.

Life is too short to whine about such small things... At the end of the day, you can't pay for 80% of the ticket price....
There were a lot of needy boy-orgers and girl-orgers who went to bed without any live music this past week. sad

For me the annoying part of recent tours are the unecessary solo's he has to give everyone on stage. Its a momentum killer eveytime. Unless theres a costume change for the man theres no reason to have Renato tickle the ivory's for more than 5 minutes.

Exactly. He's just sharing too much of the show with other people. I don't even think costume changes are necessary. If he needs to take a breather here and there, fine. But I'm sure there are better ways of doing it.

So if I enjoy 80% of the show, I shouldn't buy a ticket because I dislike 20% of it?

No. Simply enjoy the 80% and save us the complaining from your displeasure with the 20%.

Life is too short to whine about such small things... At the end of the day, you can't pay for 80% of the ticket price....
There were a lot of needy boy-orgers and girl-orgers who went to bed without any live music this past week. sad

Why not follow your own advice? Why are you whining and complaining about my posts?

C'mon now. Set the example.

Oh grow up... rolleyes

You are the one who started the whiny, obnoxious thread complaining about accomplished musicians and artists. So who can't handle what? lol

I am the LAST person to think that we should only say positive "fammy" crap...

You obviously have never read my posts against such nonsense.

HOWEVER... I also can't stand when people think Prince owes them something more than what we pay for.

Like someone else pointed out, we knew there were going to be others on the ticket. He said it at the press conference.

Again-- If you don't agree with something, or don't like what he's doing, don't give him your money.

Point blank. Period. End of story.

Just wanted 2 tell u esperanza was amazing, awesome!biggrin

Yet oh, so boring.

LOL this thread is so funny. When someone compliments Prince, they get called a fam. When they express displeasure over something he does, they get insulted and called a whiner. I'm starting to see who the real weirdos are on this site now...

Anyways, to the OP, I understand what you mean. I think everyone on the stage was talented, but mostly quite boring!! I sat through Esperanza's performance, but talked to the folks around me mostly. I just don't get into her. Doesn't take away from her talent. She was super cute, just not someone I'd pay to go see. Same with all his opening acts at the Izod, except Maceo, who I dig. I only managed to see Cassandra when Prince popped up and I heard the screams.

Prince likes these people, so I have come to appreciate them. And I looked at it like this, the opening acts were a little bonus for the price I paid. I can at least say I've seen them before. So to me, that's cool. Especially with Laila Hathaway because I used to like her back in the day.

I've never been a big fan of backup singers, especially where Prince is concerned. I don't like Prince sharing the stage with anyone (other than his band), I want to see him, and him alone. That's just me being honest, its his music that I love and adore, these other people could disappear, and I'd never miss a beat. However, at least Shelby, Liv, and Elise can sing. And at the Izod, they didn't over-do-it, so that's nice. But it would be nice to not have them sometime.

I've learned to just deal with it and accept it, Prince has been doing it for years. Why? I don't know. But maybe its cause he's a big ole sweetheart and likes to give these people a chance. Which is cool, cause alot of musicians aren't that nice or giving. Prince has always shared his stage, which shows he isn't selfish. Wait! Prince just got more awesome(if possible)..WOW! biggrin

Prince is GORGEOUS. I'm inspired. GOD is GREAT. Is there anything else to say? lol
