If you're alone, and it's after 11pm, it is best to take a cab, seeing how you are not from NYC and not familiar with that part of Manhattan.

from msg to the appolo will be around 25 dollars just a heads up and cabs dont like going to that neighborhood.sorry to say but its true and you wont find yellowv cabs after the show only gypsy cabs ussually in that area

Let me edit what I stated earlier. Whenever you're in a large city you just have to know where you're going and use common sense. As far as yellow cabbies, they can be a pain in the ass day or night. Some cabbies like to stay within certain areas where they know they can pick up more fares, whether it's day or evening hours, so Harlem is no different. [Edited 12/17/10 10:58am]

I see a lot of you are afraid to go to 125th Street after dark ... you from NYC?? Well don't be, but if you are, stay home this way the ones who don't mind the area can get in

I went according to what another poster stated in another thread.

Why would anyone be afraid to go to Harlem??? I don't know what y'all think is gonna happen to you, just use common sense and you'll be fine. Harlem is so gentrified these days anyway, its not like it was back in the day.
I don't live in Harlem, but... really? Prince esta muerto...

I'd recommend that anyone doing this stay on 125th street. 115th is scary. I was there a couple years ago on a Sunday afternoon... a Sunday afternoon... never again. Plenty of bad guys all around... and two of them flanked me (literally) and tried to intimidate me into making a move of some type. My acquired New York attitude saved me from getting ripped off.
But if you can afford the $20 cab fare, that's the way to get to the apollo.

You don't have to be on 115th street in NYC to be intimidated by anyone here. Stuff like that can happen in the most upscale communities in NYC, not just in the Harlem area. You just have to use common sense when you're travelling to any major city. There's been no confirmation about any aftershow at the Apollo from anyone on here so far, so probably best to chill until something is actually confirmed. For all anyone knows, if one is going to happen, it could be anywhere in Manhattan or Jersey or not at all. [Edited 12/17/10 13:38pm]

Really! Stuff like that can happen anywhere...
Anyhoo, this is what you do purplemookie and all my other out of towners who wanna go to the Apollo IF that's where they are having an aftershow.
Hail a cab. Get IN the cab. THEN tell him where you wanna go. THEY are obligated to take you. If they refuse, tell them that. Tell them that they are obligated to take you where you want to go and that you will report them if they do not. I honestly have been in NYC all of my life and have never had a problem with a cab taking me uptown (That's Harlem for those who are not from NY).
I think ppl want to make Harlem some kinda scary place. It's not. Really. You're not gonna be roaming dark alleys looking for the Apollo Theater.. it's got a big ass bright ass marquis out front..With lights. That illuminate the darkness. U can't miss it.
All this Apollo talk has me excited. I really hope that the after show IS there. I'd LOVE IT! Prince esta muerto...

The B train does not run on the weekends. The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.
