So disappointed

I bought 2 tickets to the December 17 show in New Jersey, and now my friend can't go. I can't seem to find anyone who wants to see Prince with me! I've been a fan since 1984, and I've never seen him in concert. This is a once in a lifetime chance, and now it looks like I may have to sell my tickets sad

I have been to a few Prince shows, the majority of which I attended by myself. Prince fans are very cool and I always meet some interesting people. I would sell your other ticket and go to the show solo. You will still have a wonderful time. Do not miss this opportunity to see him live.

Do not even think about selling your tickets - especially if you've never seen him live. If you can't find someone to go, sell one and go by yourself. You'll kick yourself forever if you don't go.

Sell one of your tickets and keep the other. You'll have a great time, even if you're by yourself.

I've gone to a number of shows solo - or traveled alone and met up with people I knew online once I got there. I have never failed to have a great time.

Just out of curiousity...what would be bad about going alone?

The thing I'm nervous about is it is a 5-hour drive, and I am not familiar with New Jersey at all! Only been there once for a Giants game.

Go alone.

When eye go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all heart up in the house but when eye log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

It might be a little different because I am a dude, but I have made a few solo road trips to see Prince. One time I drove 10 hours to see him in Oregon in 2004, five times I drove 8 hours to see him in Las Vegas, and two times I drove 5 hours to see him in LA. I had a great time at every show. A five hour drive is just a hop, skip, and a jump when you are talking about attending a show by Prince. I even drove the 5 hours home from LA after the the 3 shows in one night he did last year. I knew I would not be able to sleep after such an amazing night, so I did not want to waste money on a hotel room. It takes a while to come down from that Purple High.

Yeah, okay. Spoken like a man. There are safety issues women have to consider when traveling alone. rolleyes

Melody, have a AAA membership to handle any on-the-road emergencies. Make sure you know where you're going (map your route or use a GPS system), keep your cellphone charged, and don't stop in unfamiliar territory.

If you plan to stay over (a good idea for a solo drive that long), make sure the hotel you pick is in a safe area.

A trip like that really isn't a big deal, but you want to make sure you're prepared.

me! I can let you borrow my new magellan 7'' gps. It will get you safely to the concert & back home. wink

Prince did an interview with a woman at Record World. They talked about whatever, then he asked her: "Does your pubic hair go up to your navel?" At that moment, we thought maybe we shouldn't encourage him to do interviews.

OMG! Seriously...go by yourself!! I understand that long drive is scary alone, just be sure to do it in the daytime and keep your cell charged up! You should be fine!! I went all the way to Denmark by myself to see Prince...come on, you can do it!!! It was VERY WORTH it!! Not to mention I had to ride a bus all the way to NJ to fly out from there and I had to make my way to/from the airport at night and I know nothing about the area either. I'm going to all 3 NJ shows by myself, well, I'm planning on meeting up with other fans. You can do that too!!

Prince is GORGEOUS. I'm inspired. GOD is GREAT. Is there anything else to say? lol

Positive things about being alone 5 hours in your car:

Sounds good; that means you can listen Prince music for 5 hours on your own! Any song you want to hear, you can listen to as loud as you want to!

You don't have to listen to anybody talking while you'd rather listen to P's music...No disussions about what to listen to, just put your fave songs on.

You don't need to adjust anything in order to please anybody else. You can do whatever you want, whenever you want it. Enjoy.

Really, what is the worst thing that might happen to you? And what are the changes of that actually happening? And what are the changes that there will not be any solution when a problem occurs?

Anxious about driving in NJ?

Study the map, research streets etc. at google earth, plan extra time to avoid time-strain-stress, so calculate an extra hour for driving around being lost. Prepare in order to diminish your anticipation anxiety.

And really, don't worry before any problem actually occurs. Remember, it's the fear of fear that prevents you from living........ You'll deal with it when it happens. Trust yourself, you can handle it.

And if you challenge yourself and handle that stressfull situation: you gave yourself the chance to grow. From then on similar situations are not that stressfull anymore to you, because you handled this one well. Please, give yourself that change on development. Do this one evening and in the future you will be better at handling this thing we call live.

Balance it

You choose the way you make yourself happy that evening. What makes you more happy or gives you more fulfillment?

Not going because you'r afraid to be alone, sell your tickets to someone who's going to have a blast at the show, and you sitting on your couch and listen to a Prince cd. Probably on your own.

Knowing that if you would have gone, you would have spoiled the night for yourself anyway with self pity and feeling alone.

or

**Plan your trip, sell the extra ticket in order to book yourself a nice hotel near the venue, be proud of yourself for handling it, have a great concert (really, even the worst Prince concert ever is better then 99% of concerts of other artists), good chance of meeting others because you'r on your own and have a great time, and if not meeting anybody: having a great time just being alone and experience Prince live!

What's the real reason you would not go alone?

99% of my posts are ironic. Maybe this post sides with the other 1%.

i'm an avid ghost hunter. i go to long weekend ghost hunts with taps or the ghost adventures crew. anyway not all the trips i took were carpooling with friends. i drove 8 hours to buffalo and another 8 hours more recently to ohio. brought my prince cds along for the drive and had my own personal solo karakoe. bringing prince's cds along made the trip fly by and cruise control made it so easy...5 hours is nuthin!!and if your so worried about it allow the day before to drive to get here...

Yeah, definately get there the day before. I try to always do that when I go to a show out of town so I am not tired from the drive the night of the show. The only time I did not do this was Prince's last weekend at 3121. The day before I was going to leave I got asked to start a new part-time job and could not turn it down. I had tix to see TOOL at the Palms and Prince at 3121 Friday night. I got up early Friday morning and made the 8 hour drive, checked into my hotel and headed right over to the Palms to get in line for TOOL. After an amazing TOOL show from the front row I drove across the street for Prince's show. I could not get my usual spot right up front, but the show was still great. The only thing that would have made it better was if Prince had done an afterparty. I was surprised I was not tired after but I guess I was on a natural high. It is not often that one gets to see their two favorite artists in one night. Only in Vegas baby.

Find out if another Prince fan in your area is going and hookup with them. If not, then is it possible you could consider some public transportation to get there, and a hotel overnight stay, if going by yourself, and you don't feel comfortable driving 5 hours alone?
