You can also take the A, E, J or Z trains (subways) from JFK into Manhattan. I think it's $5 for the AirTrain from JFK to the subway and then $2.25 for a 1-way fare on the subway. Much less expensive than taking a cab, or even a shuttle service. It does take between an hour and 1.5 hours, depending on your final destination in Manhattan.

^ Yes info on the AirTrain is listed in post #4 in this thread for JFK and Newark airports.

The link I listed goes to the MTA website which lists specific details about subway lines and fares. The info in post number four is general information about the AirTrain, which is different than what I linked to.

Thanks so much for all this info. I booked the econolodge cuz it's cheap and only a mile walk to the venue.
The non-stop flight that was $340 yesterday is $750 today, so I've gotta work a bit on that. Not really worried tho. Would prefer to fly into Newark since I am not staying for NYC shows.
And now I just gotta find some great tix for Wednesday show. Anyone got two floor seats they want me to take off their hands?

No problem. Try one of these airline services to see if you could find a least expensive fare.

Yes, I saw your message on your thread. You got a good deal. Was wondering how you were going to get transportation from LaGuardia airport in Queens, NY to get to New Jersey, because LaGuardia airport is not close to New Jersey. [Edited 11/20/10 19:51pm]
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
It's about 20 miles from LaGuardia to Izod Center - a 45 minute car ride with traffic.

If anyone is staying at hotels or hostels nearest to the IZOD Center, please list the ones you found closest to it or the Newark Airport, as there are orgers here who are trying to find the closest hotels/hostels to the IZOD center. Although I listed some hotels/hostels within the earlier part of this thread, not all indicate which are the closest to the IZOD center.
Also, if the hotel in NJ you are staying at, provides "tours" to NYC, please list if the hotel you're staying at provides that service. It would be a great help to some orgers who are asking. Also, those of you who live in NJ, if you can help with some of that info, it would be a great help as well. Thanks.
Update 11/29/10: I was in the Newark Airport vicinity today, and noticed a Days Inn, Sheraton and Marriot Hotels, within the area of airport location, in case anyone is looking to find one closest to Newark Airport.

note: The special express RAIL service from Seacaucus Junction to Izod/Meadowlands will NOT be in operation for this concert. At the moment the corrupt bastards only run it for Jets/Giants games.
So if you are staying in NYC/Manhattan and want to get to IZOD you can:
- Take bus from Port Authority (which is right by madison square garden) ($10 roundtrip) - supposedly 45 minutes - Take train to seacaucus junction (from port authority) and then take a direct bus from there (blah). Also approx 45 mins (waiting included). I think there is a train from secaucus, too.. I did that for a springsteen concert and it took forever

There are plenty of hotels right around Newark Airport and they all have shuttles--at least the brand name ones like Starwood properties, Marriotts, Hiltons, etc.

I was just reading about the parking at the iZod center and it might be worth the extra $5.00 for the reserved parking. People say the lots are quite a walk to the entrance to the building and if it is cold or rainy, the reserved parking is in a garage. Unfortunately, Friday night reserved parking seems to be full already.
There is also another option I found for $22.00 at a nearby restaurant that will shuttle you over and back. Not really a savings, but again, if there is lousy weather like today, at least you will be dropped off a and picked up from the door. Here is the link:

But you know what, I looked the priceline.com. If I fly to EWR airport, It costs 500+ dollars, if I fly to JFK airport, it's only 100+ dollars. I'm going to IZOD's concert first.

Try this service to see if you can find something cheaper to Newark. Another orger here got a good price, but is flying into LaGuardia and rented a car, and driving from LaGuardia airport in Queens, NY to New Jersey. Although I think your travel would be much easier if you get a flight into Newark airport specifically for Jersey shows, and can always catch a shuttle from there to your hotel in Jersey.
http://www.airfarewatchdog.com
JFK airport is in Queens, NY. Very far from New Jersey. You can also choose to rent a car and drive to Jersey, but it will cost you, even if you take a taxi to New Jersery.
The Airtrain at JFK Airport, will take you to the Jamaica Station subway, and you can go downstairs and catch the "E" train to directly to 34th Street Penn Station or you can get off at the next stop on the "E" train which is 42nd Street(where the Port Authority Bus Terminal is upstairs) and catch a bus to New Jersey. Call the Airtrain phone number to find out about the fare of the Airtrain, and you will need a "metrocard" to get on the "E"train in the subway. The subway fare is $2.25.
If you're staying in a hotel near the IZOD Center, just find out from the information booth in the Port Authority bus terminal, which bus you can take to get over there.

There are buses that leave daily from Port Authority Bus Terminal in NYC to NJ, but it depends on where your destination is. You can always ask the the people at the information booths, at the Port Authority, what bus you can take. I know the Coach 351 bus that departs from Port Authority Bus Terminal in NYC to NJ and takes people to the IZOD Center, and back to the Port Authority when there's an event scheduled there, and will leave 2 1/2 hours prior to an event at the IZOD, and will continue until one half hour after the start of an event.

so i'm on that trip planner site typing in msg to the apollo if there is a aftershoe there. i'm so confused. buses, trains. i'm from jersey suburbs. not counting a bus or train to manhattan i only took a local bus once. i'm so weirded out by this site i'm guessing i'll take a taxi. 6 miles..12 mins according to mapquest. but i'm typing in all the addresses of msg, dallas bbq and bbkings...msg is 7th and 31-33...the resturants are on 42 in times square but apollo is 125th!! ahhhh!!
the furthest up i was was beacon thearte on in between 74 and 75th. i walked from either bus or the train. i dont remember which to see chris cornell. only took like 90 mins. but it was july!!!! i don't wear a cross?!!? i wear a prince symbol I When Prince's cum dries, diamonds are formed. no one tops prince in concert!

If there is an after show at the Apollo you can take the number 2 train going uptown to 125th St ( it should say 242nd - Van Courtlandt Pk) also today is a gridlock alert day meaning that 12 mins mapquest told you about willl probably take an hour!! If you are coming from Port Authority make a left out the building and go over and up one block to 42nd street (Chevy's should be on the corner) and BBQ's is right there [Edited 12/17/10 9:08am] Eye Wish u Love, Eye Wish U Heaven
