Werchter concert 10 july The newspaper offering the CD this weekend pulls another stunt. They'll be giving away 6000 tickets, yes SIX THOUSAND, to their readers by means of a simple competition. What does that tell us?

We paid too much for ours? Well, anyway - I'm glad I'll be there. I will dance my butt off, sing as loud as I can and have fun. I love Prince and chocolate - in that order

I just read some reviews from the Berlin gig. I guess he'll at the top of his game on saturday. So yes, we'll sing and dance our butts off. Golden circle here we come.

The fact that you can get as many tickets as you want of the officials outlets says it all.... They'll be giving out tickets everywhere just to make sure the place gets filled soon enough....
Just heard that the Geneva gig only sold about 8000 of the 20000 tickets too....
Next 'tour' we'll be the only ones willing to go (and I like it that way) Small gigs only!!

Amen to that! I love Prince and chocolate - in that order

If these figures posted are true then it does prove the shows have been overpriced, how much control Prince had over pricing is heresay and conjecture. The promoter may have paid a set fee and then set the prices. This tour is way different to o2 where Prince did set the price. Life is perfect when you are content with being

Isn't there a relation between the fee mr Prince gets (millions...) and the ticket prices? They want to recoup the fee through ticket prices. So yes, mr P sets the ticket price indirectly. Geneva was expensive as was Berlin. So they jerk around the fans until the show gets closer to break-even for the promotors.
In other words. They fail. An epic fail. Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

As I said anything posited is heresay and conjecture.
To simplify, prior to confirmation of an agreement between an artist and a promoter the promoter would have established total costs and off set them according to a reasonably simple equation that would deliver an expected profit margin based on expected sales.
The relation you suggest is part of the promoter's equation.
Do you really think that Prince sits at his desk in Paisley Park with a calculator trying to manipulate figures to help a promoter arrive at their ideal profit eg 35%?
If the promoter was stupid enough to pay Prince too much then I suppose you can posit he was inidrectly to blame.
However, ticket pricing is not always controllable by an artist, that being any artist, not just Prince.
I do agree though that given the current economic climate that ticket prices, especially Gold Circle were over-marked up.
However, the pricing is comparable to other megastars. Look at the figures from Madonna's last set of show and you'll see what I mean.
Heresay and Conjecture, the latest song will be cover mounted on a national newspaper in your local newsagents soon. Life is perfect when you are content with being

Nope, different newspaper.
Only 2/3 of Werchter tickets have been "sold", and they've handed 5000 duo-tickets to sponsors to desperately fill the grounds.
I bet that a) they'd expected the ticket price to cover the advance payment to Prince and b) expected to make a lot of money through drinks etc. Now they're scrambling not to make a loss.
FYI: last year Madonna did this gig. Enormous success, despite worse weather. Oh, and she played a lot of NEW music too. © Bart Van Hemelen

It's "hearsay".
Except that Madonna is still a superstar, still sells a ton of albums, still gets lot of press, and has a reputation for worthwhile, eventful gigs. © Bart Van Hemelen

Not only that - but the tickets for Madonna were 75€ (instead of 85€ for Prince) and the golden circle ones were (I think) 100€ (instead of 125€ for Prince).
And ... ALL TICKETS sold out within 2 days - the ticketsale started on Saturday morning and by Sunday afternoon it was sold out.
Big diff | |

It was her very very first concert in Belgium too!! And the tickets were 75 for normal standing, and golden circle was 85!

If anyone want the general admission ticket I have (I later got a gold circle ticket - don't I feel silly now) they can have it for the price of a beer or two.

Madonna's album sales, airplay, hits, etc. have been on a steady decline for years. Truthfully, would you rather be at a Madonna or Prince concert or listening to a new Prince or Madonna cd? Please...

Please, like anyone is genuinely interested in Prince's 'new' music. There's a reason why he has to give it away for free u know..The public that goes 2 c Prince at Werchter wants 2 hear 'Purple Rain'. But I digress. The point: Madonna's stage production is about 200 x more expensive than Prince's.
Now I understand that less of a turnout was expected 4 the Prince gig, so 2 break even at a lower attendance the price per head had 2 b upped. That's just common business sense..but his fee is definitely part of that equation. He's proven 2 b just as greedy as the rest, many times over.
This ticket giveaway is unheard of though...6.000 tickets that's insane. They're probably looking 2 sell a lot of beer 2 make a profit in the end. ...Your coochie gonna swell up and fall apart...

Big difference is . PRINCE WILL SING LIVE. MADONNA MIMED. What fools would pay more than 10euros to see a Karaoke singer.

How many times do we have to read the same ignorant comment that Prince has to give his music away for free. The paper is giving it away for free, not Prince. Prince has a deal and has been paid, in advance for the deal. The deal(s) in comparison to the royalties he would get if signed to a major etc etc can't be bothered to explain anymore... People making these comments clearly don't understand the variety of ways music can be marketed.
eg Shelby is now doing a viral campaign for blackgypsy via facebook. She is going down the route of downloading via itunes, amazon blah blah blah
How much exposure is Prince getting from this deal. No need for the expense of PR blah blah blah
Someone hears 20ten - they're of a generation that has never heard him before and they go get more music by him etc etc etc
You people are too stupid to understand... Life is perfect when you are content with being

I agree with you, so apart from teh tyop (lol) you are agreeing with me.
It is hearsay.
And to compare Madonna like for like with Prince is not really a comparison. An analargy Ronaldo goes to wherever for whatever and the club rakes back millions from 1. Idiots buying tickets to watch him introduced with a walk on the pitch and then 2. Shirt sales. Torres goes to Liverpool but their revenue return is much less.
Madonna had not played there before - mmm maybe that's why she sold out so quickly or it could be that the marketing campaign behind it was run professionally...
Let's say the org didn't exist and that you didn't live in the country where the show existed and you had no Prince friend's who kept their ear to the ground - just when would you have heard about any of these shows. Funkberry maybe - but again your actually actively trying to keep up-to-date.
The advertising of these shows has been absolutely diabolical. Hardly Prince's fault they haven't sold out. It is the promoter's responsibility to, err promote.
Anyone remember 07, some small arena in a little town called London. 21 nites all sold out. No one has (and I doubt they ever will) beat this record. He could've done more if he'd wanted to. [Edited 7/8/10 13:23pm] Life is perfect when you are content with being

no one right?
Oh except for the 80 000 that spent at least 75€ on their tickets just one year ago, in Werchter?

Uhm! Michael Jackson?!

Let's see: low ticketprices, plus gigs in a tourist hotspot.
A record? Kinda funny that's so important. You'd think it should be about the music. © Bart Van Hemelen

Michael Jackson sold this out 50 times with ticketprices of 75 pounds, not just 31,21 pounds.

Onrechtvaardig. I paid 80 euros, got up early to make sure I have the tickets and now they're just handing it for free to non-fans/readers of the most dumb newspaper in Belgium. My mother just "won" 4 duo-tickets. She doesn't even have 12 people to give it to.

It's sort of like the EasyJet-system in reverse. There you get the cheapest spots when you buy early and the more expensive spots come last.
Anyway... I'm really looking forward to tonight! Not so much the weather, but hey ho. Hopping on the 13.54 train from Amsterdam.

^^ so true!! She had mega hits with Hung up,Sorry,Jump from her Confessions-album and is always in the media (gossip or not). From the moment I heard he would play Werchter, I thought how he would fill this gigantic place. It's wonderfull that so many people attended the concert, being an artist that was out of the picture here for years!! Ok, his albums sold well for a few weeks, 3121 and PE got in the top3. But that's it.
When he came 2 Werchter in '90 during the Nude tour he only sold about 35000 tickets. In the Netherlands he easely sold 50000. He has/had succes in Belgium but not so much like in other countries.
U got 2 know, this is the country of fm-rock :Bryan Adams, Bon Jovi and the ballads of Aerosmith and Guns & Roses!! Bryan Adams is always in the top of the top 1000 lists here, before Springsteen and others...go figure:lol: U2 is also a fav but at least there music is better, but once again, their old hits/slow songs are the fav. It's like a concert promotor once said; "invite Stevie Wonder in other countries and it will be sold out. Belgium is not so in2 soul and funk, it would be difficult 2 get the place sold out here."
Yes...it's lonely out here:lol:

Yeh, Madonna was playbacking most of the time, and the parts were she sung herself, were out of tune, according to various newspapers. But the weather last year was worse than this year, last year it as cold.
