Absolutely loved it...may not have been a very original setlist by any means, but it was great to hear Little red corvette live like the montreux version..Why you wanna treat me so bad, mountains-shake your body down....(of which he sid this is for a friend before hand)

KISS had a great extended jam like the 12"

Let's go crazy has been slightly altered but still relativlely similar

DELIRIOUS hasn't had a full version for quite some time I believe, which was again amazing!'

Did I mention, ALEXA DE PARIS playing before LET'S GO CRAZY?cool

Prince looked like he was having a great time and to've seen him in a more neutral crowd )unlike fans at his concerts), he really got a gret great response and generally the feeling there was fantastic...oh and managed to get some great shots from the 2nd row:-P

absolutely loveeeeeeed it too!!!!

Maybe not the greatest playlist, but damn he rocked the place, and I really enjoyed hearing the old songs....and seeing who was able to sing along wink

After 27 years as a mad fan of his music I had a wonderful time, I danced my ass off, Ive lost my voice singing and Ive never been covered by so much dust before, but had a Funky great time smile

And Prince really connected with the crowd and he looked happy and full of energy.....He had us all screaming his name....take me with you, like I love my guitar ect. while clapping like mad.....lovely smile

Cant believe it took me 27 years to go to a concert, and now Im addicted; what ever that was, I just have to have that feeling again.....

(by the way; nope-no prince merchandise)

pretty dull looking setlist right there. show may have been stellar, but those song choices

look pretty damn boring. and 4 covers? zzz

only exciting things are mountains and dance 4 me.

Dull looking maybe, but he sure rocked the house.

Obviously a setlist made for a festival crowd, who are not Prince nerds like us. The safe list with the hits that everybody knows.

Or almost: When Prince played Kiss a guy behind me said, that he liked the original by Tom Jones better. So there you go. smile

But it was fantastic. The best Roskilde act this year IMO.

Was Venus De Milo a taped intro, Prince & the band or just the band before Prince entered the stage?

Yes as someone posted Venus De Milo was played at the start by the piano lady, sorry didn't catch her name.

Other songs played that I recall were:

Everyday People (Sly & The Family Stone)

Higher (Sly & The Family Stone)

Disco song ("dance with my at the disco", didn't know it)

I think the setlist was a fine match for the audience. Many probably haven't heard Prince since '86-'88. And it was nice to see that Prince seemed at peace with playing his old songs and giving each song space and focus. My recollection from 1998 tour was a lot of quick medleys to get through the songs as fast as possible.

Dude

Hey - back from Roskilde and a great show!!! There were some monitor-problems before the concert and these problems weren't solved when Prince got on stage. It was clear that something was wrong but Prince was really cool about it... He got a great response from the audience all way through, which was nice.

I was up front on 3rd row and had a great view of Prince & Sheila E.

Highlights for me was:

Venus De Milo - great intro

Delirious - the Lets Go Crazy 12" part was so cool smile

1999 - Party!!!

Controversy - always a live-favorite

WUWTMSB - cool live-version

Purple Rain - great guitarsolo

Mountains - again great live-version

Kiss - The best live-version I´ve heard!!

I think that the correct set-list is:

Venus De Milo

Let's Go Crazy
Delirious
1999

Little Red Corvette

I Like funky Music
Controversy
Le Freak
Why U Wanna Treat Me So Bad
Take Me With U (with Sheila E.)

Another review, from www.berlingske.dk. Gøøgle translation.

Prince played close to the gods

As a second Mozart conducted the Prince around with his musicians and audiences during its two-hour concert at Roskilde.

Updated: Prince closed Roskilde Festival with a concert, none of the 70,000 spectators will ever forget.

Roskilde Festival: Technical problems. 70,000 in an ecstasy of equal parts fear and frustration. Was he perhaps come, he sat out there behind and refused to go on? Both questions and answers blown away in the warm summer evening in the second, Prince Roger Nelson sprintede onto Roskilde Orange main stage.

He looked gorgeous: dressed in white like the rest of his band, with a picture of himself from the eighties, printed in the stomach. High collar and a face that signaled 25 years rather than 52, birth certificate provides. With Prince, one never knows, a concert can go along two tracks: either hour long funkjams or hit parade. The record crowd at the Roskilde hoped the last, of course. Evening's direction was dictated already in the first number: "Let's Go Crazy '. The sound level was too low, but keep up, it was a celebration.

Funky, loose, tight - brilliant and implemented

Rock The editor had brought love and champagne. Stopper jumped in time with the music since Prince took the hole at two star hours, which rose levels above all other bands and artists at this year's Roskilde Festival. In another number Asked zoom cameras focus on Prince. I've never seen a man with so much rhythm in your body, Michael Jackson included. Everything went at him with the funky tones.

Apparently he was struggling with severe back problems, but so far not seemed to affect him. The fears about masturbation pent-jams were proved wrong. It was funky, loose, tight - brilliant and implemented.

As a second Mozart conducted the little man he is around with his musicians and baited his audience. Prince had not come to Denmark for fun, he had simply come to have a legacy. So sincere, so amazing, he took it out.

Guitar Play was rough sex

Alone, his guitar playing is a chapter in itself. Mage of casual elegance and sense of fretboard does not exist. Rather, one thinks of Jimi Hendrix, when Prince took after his custom built Fender Telecaster. It was rough sex. That he still has the voice to reach the high notes, he left no doubt about that. At times it was pure James Brown.

The audience at Roskilde receipted for the amazing music, go berserkers in glædesrus to 'Little Red Corvette', 'Nothing Compares 2 U' for hits on hits. In the alternative. elongated versions. Under 'Purple Rain', one of the most beautiful tracks in the modern music history, it was too much. Tears rolled down her face, all in while Prince played and sang closer to the gods.

Redemption at pauver festival

Four times he came in again. The party continued. In my book, Prince played one of those legendary concerts, never ever will forget, just like I could never erase Whitney Houston's major concert in the Forum earlier this year from the hard disk.

Thus was the last concert of a musical seen pauver Roskilde Festival exactly the big redemption, had hungered for through the four sunny festival day.

2CRAZY

Let's go crazy
De zanger liet de vaart er daarna ook in, met "I Like funky Music", "Controversy", "Sexy Dancer", "Le Freak", "Why U Wanna Treat Me So Bad", "Take Me With U" en "Guitar". Einde van act één.

Purple Rain

Kiss
Er volgden nog drie rondjes bisnummers, met ondermeer "Mountains", "Shake your body down to the ground" en een medley met daarin Sly's "Everyday People". "What's my name, Denmark?" vroeg Prince toen hij voor de vierde keer werd teruggeroepen. "Prince!" riepen de Denen. "Ok, now people don't need to ask what I want to be referred to as that's my name and this is my song to you", verduidelijkte de purperen. En met "Kiss" deed hij een laatste keer de wei daveren. (mvl)

I know this is a fansite, just as I'm a fan. But it was clearly some stuff that could have been better too.

People are complaing that he did a boring setlist? Atleast he did things that people could sing along with. When you have 75 000 people there, and 90% didn't have much knowledge on him, it would probably be a catastrophy if he didn't play alot of hits. He could have played more of his own songs though, and not that many covers.

Think about the fact that Roskilde is more or less a rock type of festival... Prince did kind of a mix between funk, pop, soul, gospel(CHURCH!!!) and lounge with over compressed drums and cheesy synth sounds. For some of the hard rockers out there, I think Prince seemed too soft and over polished, and his funk was too calculated missing the rawness I know he is capable of.

Other than that, Prince had amazing control over his guitar, and his band. The Gospel Choir got a little too much shine imo. Prince really knows how to be sexual in a classy way with his raspy falsetto in a more sophisticated way now than when he was younger. I was loving when he did Mountains, but not many of the people at Roskilde knows that song. So I will assume just his followers recognised the instrumental of Sexy Dancer was used for backing up the lyrics to the Disco Classics he did.

AGREED!! VERY BORING!! Come on Prince!! Cut the covers and play some more RECENT stuff!! Hell I will even settle for some 90s music!! All 80s in so in the past!!

You were at the show to confirm it was 'boring'?

These are large festival concerts. The set has to be chock-full with crowd-pleasers. The two recent set-lists look like a fair comprimise.

If you want Prince playing '90's songs and new material, you will have to see him in 2000 - 6000 capacity venues as with the 'ONA' tour. Or else an Aftershow.

hehe, I just thought you'd wanna know. He was playing congas, keys and guitar. He didn't overplay the congas, neither the keys. But he left people noticing his skills and feel anyways, but it seems like noe effort technically when he does it. His technique is near perfection.
