PRINCE - band lineup Does anybody knows the lineup of the band that is playint the summer shows in Europe?
My favourite would be:
DRUMS - Michael B. (John Blackwell Jr.) BASS - Larry Graham (Sonny T. or Rhonda Smith) GUITAR - Levi Seacer Jr. (Mike Scott) KEYS - Renato Neto SAX - Eric Leeds, Maceo Parker and Candy Dulfer

i like blackwell but he's too mathematical, michael b's broove is funktastic, and his break's are great and unpredictable, he's playing on shhh is outstanding... im also a drummer, by the way... I really hope that it wont be the girl from 3121 on drums, she's worst drummer in prince band... [Edited 6/2/10 4:53am] | |

I would also say that this is Prince's TOP-band !
But on the other hand there has not been any bad one too IMHO. | |

While the main man is Prince, a huge part of the pleasure over the years has been his band.

OK we almost agree... huge part of the pleasuer is band, and i said what's my fav.. i also dont like the latest band too much, but you cant say that band from one nite alone tour is not giving enough vibe... THAT WOULD BE WRONG DUE... you gotta admit that... (and with larry as a guest..) | |

I'm also a drummer, and I would say Cora Dunham is, next to Bobby Z, the least technically-able opf all P's drummers (Yes, I know he was the Revolution drummer, but seriously - he never did anything other than follow Prince's instructions, playing simple beats).
I agree Blackwell is the strongest technically-speaking - but you always got the sense of the ONA guys being a session band: boring! I loved Michael B for his power and of course Sheila for... well, just being Sheila! | |

Hey hang on..you are putting Cora and Bobby Z below Kirky J?..and you call yourself a drummer
In my opinion Prince's bands have just become session musicians..how many times did he let them shine at the O2 shows..hardly ever...I don't think even Morris Hayes ever got a solo. But I still love them whoever they are (apart from Kirky J and maybe Kat Dyson)..he's picked them..he knows exactly what he wants. | |

Who said Prince will bring a full band lineup to all the concerts?
In Arras & Werchter it says support acts by Mint Condition and Larry Graham. Larry Graham will join Prince for sure... There was also some rumors that Candy & Maceo will join Prince in Linz and Berlin.

I didint mention DAMON KIRK, he was really bad on the rave un2 the year 2000 show... FIRST NPG WAS THE BEST BAND thats 4 sure, michael b and sonny t... thats the beat that you want... BUT PEOPLE, i heard that the new drummer is CHRIS COLEMAN (he is the beast really) and on the bassm that australian girl TAL... that would be great... she is the girl version of jaco pastorius... | |

Hi dayzofwild. You know what, I have to admit i completely forgot him! I was going through P's drummers in my head and somehow skipped that whole period. Nuff said. That was a f**king awful period and, for me, it was a lot to do with the sound of Kirk Johnson and his complete inability to make grooves sound funky.
I was over the moon when he quit. Can't believe i didn't put him in the list!
