I would imagine until the Italian courts free him from the accusation that he plagiarized TMBGITW from those Italian songwriters, It's gonna be a long time until he shows his face in Italy. Sorry
Peace. Prince did an interview with a woman at Record World. They talked about whatever, then he asked her: "Does your pubic hair go up to your navel?" At that moment, we thought maybe we shouldn't encourage him to do interviews.

Italy is my favorite place to travel too. My family has a place there! If Princey would play a concert on top of that, it would be heaven.

I remember that a 1988 LoveSexy show was cancelled because it was not 'safe' to play that concert in an old stadium (I thought was an old Roman arena). I think it was Bolgogna, then. I have to look that up (clipping/newspaper article).

Found it!
That is, a different newspaper article on several international acts. I could not find the one article on the old stadium (but I'm sure it is still somewhere...) Okay, I will roughly translate the core of the text, which first is about Madonna and the Rolling Stones. Later on about Prince. Please note, that it's about the 1988 LoveSexy shows. Italians turn away from superstars. Rome - Mega concerts are not doing well in Italy. After Madonna and Prince played for half filled stadiums, this week's Rolling Stones concert was more or less neglected by the talian audience. On Wednesday the rocking elderly at the Flaminio Stadium in Rome, for an audience of 20.000. The spot easily hosts 50.000 man. On Thursday even less. Two of the Turino concerts has been cancelled. Prince had to do the same (cancel a show) when only 6.000 tickets were sold for his second show. Local artists To attract Italians, the concert organisations let local artists play before the international act. The organisator found out that Madonna's show in Rome had 20.000 visitors, while Italian singer Vasco Rossi had 60.000 fans in Milan. And so on... Which I think is strange, because in Per Nilsen's Chronicles it is said that Prince played 5 shows in the Milanese Palatrussardi stadium on July 15, 16,17, 18 and 20. [source: De Telegraaf, July 1988]

...Guess what, I found the story in Per Nilsen's "Prince Pop Chronical" (Dutch edition page 98) where he states that:
'September 3 1988. An open air concert in Stadio Braglia, Modena, Italy. September 5 1988. The open air concert in the Stadio Del Marmi in Rome would be the last show of the European tour. But it was cancelled. The state of the 20.000 seats stadium - which is a national monument - was more or less deterioration and it was decided that no more rock concerts were allowed to take place.' There it is. Luckily for us (Holland) there were two extra shows instead on September 8th and 9th in our neighbouring country Germany. The Westfallenhalle show in Dortmund, was just an hours drive away! And broadcasted almost live. Woo hoo!

the picture is misleading, the article is about the 1990 tour(The Stones and Madonna were not on tour in 1988). Actually, under the pic, it states that the Turin gig was cancelled (that was 1990). Also Madonna's gigs in Italy that year were not so successful
