However it could well be the truth. Overly rehearsed dance moves and miming aren't in my books on musicality and versatility. It might be interesting to see how many gigs MJ did compared to Prince.... I'll leave that to someone else tho But the validity of the comparison isn't really the point (to me, anyway), it's Bream's inclusion OF the comparison at all. Was Bream's article intended to be a review focusing on Prince's first performance at Paisley Park in 5 years, or was it supposed to be a piece comparing the careers and talent of Prince vs. someone else. Add into it that Bream chose MJ as the musician to compare Prince to, and to me his remark just seems unnecessary and again, all things considered...tacky. I've voiced my thoughts on this matter now, though, so I'll leave it at this, as I understand the mods don't want this to devolve into a Prince vs MJ debate, and that's not what I wanted, either. My issue is more with what I consider to be a needless jab included in a review piece that would have been just as good without. [Edited 10/26/09 3:52am]

This show seemed to have the same vibe as in La Cigale. Seeing Prince so happy and laughing all the time, is a real joy. It adds so much energy and positivity to the show, that you can't stop smiling for 24 hours when it's done To me it's absolutely clear that our man is totally smitten with Bria and my female intuition tells me we might hearing wedding bells in the near future.... Genesia's face when he played Northside --> I know..it sounded SO MUCH BETTER the way it was played!!!!!. If the song sounded like that with that type of music it would have been a classic P tune. Straight Jacket Funk Affair

Actually, let the record reflect that the precise quote was "If you have a problem with him, you have a problem with 'me." Much respect to Mr. Graham for the warm greet. My auntie is blown away that I was able to deliver to you her message, and says when she returns home next week, she will be taking good tidings from you back to the old congregation. And, yeah, Prince, it was indeed "a good thing." Ask Larry what I told him.. You rock!!!

Just had a chance to read some of the reviews. Sounds like everyone had a great time, and lots of positive reviews.
Only thing, I didn't see anyone mention was: 1) What time did the PP Staff start letting fans inside Paisley Park for the show. Was it 10pm or 10:30pm? 2) Also, those who didn't have a car to drive to the parking lot where the buses were, did you have a problem getting a cab to take you back to the hotel, once you got back on the bus to the dropoff point? 3) Did anyone just take a cab straight to Paisley, and was it difficult getting a cab from Paisley back to your hotel? Was it looking a little neglected like people have noted in recent years? Or was it looking clean and well kept? The great thing about the restrooms is they put the sinks outside the room with the toilets in them. So you were able to wash your hands after touching the door handle - and get out without touching anything else. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. Genesia said: Well, thank goodness I wasn't late to the Park - who'd'a' thunk he'd start on time?
At 11:10, the band took the stage, followed shortly thereafter by Our Man. He had on (from what I could tell under the colored lights) a black satin tunic with self-fabric fringe, his black stretchy pants, and a pair of furry, knee-high boots with lights in the wedge heels. This was the only outfit he wore all night - the first time I've ever been to a Prince concert that didn't have a wardrobe change. He started off the evening with the Hohner in hand for the following: No More Candy 4 U Old Skool Company (with a Purple Rain tease) Stand Turn Me Loose I Want You Back Dance 4 Me 1999 I Feel 4 U Then he launched into a version of Controversy that wound itself around All Day, All Night, Le Freak, Northside, Dancin' Machine and Housequake before coming back to Controversy. From there... Why U Wanna Treat Me So Bad Take Me With U And then...he started Anotherloverholenyohead...but stopped, saying, "I love this song...and I'm gonna wanna play a looooong solo. So lemme switch guitars." He left for a second...and returned with his crimson Strat. He proceeded to tear up Anotherlover...with Rock Lobster worked in. Then it was on to... Guitar Raspberry Beret Exactly one hour in, Prince left the stage for Shelby to sing "In the Arms of the Angels." Mr. Hayes put on his chutch hat (I ain't kiddin' - it was a big white hat with an organza bow on it) and played some serious organ. It was quite something. Prince returned (along with the Hohner) for a meandering and heartfelt 4ever in My Life. Lovely. From there, he picked up the tempo: Mountains Shake Your Body Larry joined him for: Everyday People I Want to Take You Higher Long Train Runnin' (Wow - what a surprise that was! And it was awesome. Shelby on vocals for this.) Thank You Sing a Simple Song Play That Funky Music (at the close of this, he handed his guitar to the audience) Prince and band left the stage exactly two hours after the show began. The first encore took it even higher: Uptown Let's Work Cool Kiss (back to the funky version - not the rock-y one he's done of late) The rest of the band left the stage and Prince did a lovely, gentle Sometimes It Snows in April. He took it back up again with The Bird Jungle Love The Glamorous Life The second encore was Purple Rain. He did something I've never heard - took the whole thing down to a guitar solo that sounded like a beating heart. It was just plain incredible. They had some sound issues, but it was an awesome show. The whole "park and ride" thing worked pretty well, too. They could have used another bus when people were leaving, but all in all, it was a good system. We were fortunate that it wasn't too cold. [Edited 10/25/09 1:38am] Great review...Which brought it all back to me again. Prince was in a playful mood and some of his comments were hilarious. I was, however, blown away by his dedication of the evening... "The Bird", I that one flew over nearly, but not, everyone's head.

I am still laughing about it today... He was making a fool out of her and she didn't even know! Too damn funny. Prince went over and spoke with her when the song ended. Gave her quasi hug / handshake. They were both smiling. He didn't disrespect her.

Thank u 2 Prince 4 having the concert in the 1st place AND 2 providing the shuttle service. what a nice gesture. My 2 fav parts were the guitar jam with him & Larry and my friend trying 2 grab his guitar cuz she didn't know he wasn't actually giving it 2 the audience. this was only her 2nd time seeing the man and her 1st time in the very front. what a wonderful wkend.
