My Recap of my Paisley Park Experience

First let me get the haterade part out of the way:
There was a lot of trouble with the sound. They probably should have had some speakers in the back to give more of a surround affect. There was several times during the first part where Prince had to correct the mix and stop. When Larry Graham first came to the stage, the sound mix sounded aweful to me - maybe because they had two basses. I thought there was several times where the keyboards should have been raised in the mix. But P fixed most of this.

Now that that's out the way, let's get to the outstanding evening that it was.

1) this was the smoothest operationally that I have seen Paisley run in my 20+ years of going there. They had shuttles set up to bring people from designated parking, they had handicap parking, they had an email communication going out to people who had preordered tix about what to expect, they processed the lines really quickly and at least while I was there, there was no waiting outside in the cold - I was able to walk right in. And the biggest surprise - the email said the that the event started at 11:00 pm and Prince did come out as I expected at about 1:00 am, but he was on stage playing at 11:10. Whoever was in charge of the operations last night deserves a bonus! smile

2) I may be mistaken, but I don't think Prince played any of his songs from the 90's. He played his songs from the 70's, 80's, and 2000's. Why is that significant? Because he still played an awesome show even though he skipped a whole decade in his career. He played about 3 hours including a couple of brief breaks. Everything from Controversy to I Feel for You to 1999 to Purple Rain to Raspberry Beret to Let's Work to Guitar to Mountains to Sometimes it Snows in April to Forever in My Life to Anotherlovenholenyohead to Take Me with U.

3) Prince was paying homage to a lot of his influences including the typical Sly Stone (playing Everyday People, Simple Song, Thankufalletinmebemicelfagin), The Time (playing Cool, The Bird), Chaka Kahn (I Feel 4 U), shout outs to Stevie Wonder, Carlos Santana, Rufus, Joni Mitchell, and to the delight of the crowd - The Jacksons (playing I Want You Back, and Shake Yo Body). It was good to see him honoring Michael.

4) It was awesome being in P's house again. Catching up with old friends, the coat drive by Love4OneAnother, soaking everything in. Prince also said not to believe what you hear ... That Minneapolis would always be his home.

Shout out to the Purple Party People - We still can hang until 3 in the morning! smile Thank you to P, the band, and all who made last night the smoothest operation that has ever been at Paisley and a great night.

confused Classy. Prince invites people to his "house" and they steal shit from him. No manners or hometraining. disbelief
The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

I don't mind that no one was able to take pix of the show but I wish people had taken pix of Orgers and fans in line. That's always fun to me.

all in all (besides the sound problems and whoever was working the sound board lights etc would not listen or seem to not know what hey were doing )

it was the best ! it has been a few years and i tell ya it was almost tear jerking to be able to experience that feeling that only a 2 almost 3 hour show of your favorite man...(really only prince could do it even if he is not your fav ) could do.....

it was awesome he was in a great mood after things got going ...he sang all the old stuff without changing lyrics ...maybe a line on one or two songs but mostly it was defintely a true fan moment .....a true prince moment....he looked good....with his black furry boots on which everytime he walked lite up red lights like those kid shoes ....black tights ( i kinda hate to say tights ) but that is what they seem to be and an open black shirt with that disc looking necklace....

still everytime he smiled you couldn't help but to cheese so big ..i know the crowd and those of us regulars from all these years were smiling huge too....

paisley has changed the bathrooms are completely different...sort of reminds me of the mall of america bathrooms with the big round wall one side being men the other being women ..the whole hall way there is purple ...maybe lavender ...

the love for oneanother room ( the concert was in the big white heaven room) looks different with lots more couches...loveseats pillows from what i could see ....they had it closed off with security to keep people out of that part...

Morris Hayes played keyboards ..and he looked so handsome with his pinstripe suite red tie....hat ....he looked really good ..and tall ...lol

3 back up singers....and the rest i am not sure who they were ...someone on bass and the women shelly i think her name is playing drums....

Lenka was the D.J...it was pleasant to see her pretty self.....

that is my contribution to the story ..just plain out one of those nights that you walked away from fully satisfied and of course hoping there will be more ....and yes he did say don't mind the talk....this is home he is home and will always be here.... i love that ....

oh the one that cracked me up when he changed a minor word in the song Kiss was instead of saying "you don't have to watch dynasty to have an attitude...he said " you don't have to watch gossip girl ...." ...i thought that was funny i love gossip girl ..he sure is up on all the present time popular things...as always ...he keeps up...

it reminded me how blessed i was and all others to experience the moment ...watching him play his guitar and just have a great time and talk to the crowd ..he even said " love you too"...when the crowd yelled it out ....a few times he answered back ..and thanked Michael jackson as well as all the others for inspiration in his music....it was amazing...

i can't wait til the next ...although it reminded me of how old i have gotten i was tired tired at 3 am ....and i thought long ago back in the day he would just hit the stage at 2:30 3am....so lol...such is life ..but i would stand for hours whenever he calls to do so....

smile

I wrote this previously, but I wanted to share with the Org...
I was at the show, and it was Prince at his very best. He was very happy, relaxed, playful, and seemed thrilled to be there - almost as much as I was. He played for over 3 hours and it was brilliant! Just some highlights (I'll never know how ppl can memorize the entire setlist) :

He played "1999"- which I haven't heard live in over ten years, "Kiss", an extended "Purple Rain", 3 or 4 Sly Stone songs with Larry on bass, 4 MJ/Jackson Five songs including my MJ favorite "Shake your body down to the ground"...right before that he played "Mountains" - which I've never heard live!!, "The Cross", "All Day/All Night", "Turn Me Loose", a super funky version of "Controversy", "Anotherlover...", "The Bird", "Jungle Love", "The Glamourous Life", "Cool(which was just awesome!)", and my highlight of the night "Forever in my Life" - probably my all-time favorite song, and I got to see it live at Paisley....wow wow wow!
I brought my sister and our two friends who had never seen him...and they were just blown away! My friend Rob asked me after the show, "So he just does this one off show...? No promotion, just sells a bunch of tix and plays to about a thousand people?" At that point, I'd forgotten how privileged I was to be part of this amazing journey known as Prince. How many shows I'd seen that were barely announced, impromptu live concerts out at Paisley or Glam Slam...from the best performer on the planet. Wow, I thought, I have been blessed to be part of this experience.
Prince walked right past me 4 or 5 times, and one time when he was waiting for the crowd to open up I got to thank him in person and he said right back to me very sincerely and with a smile, "You're welcome".
Like I said, he was at his best, in a great mood, very happy, and I don't think he wanted to stop. The crowd was ready for more, even after two encores, but alas, every night has to come to an end. Even great ones.
Again, thank you Prince - for all the great shows over the years - and tonight! You truly are a prince of a man.
