Although i wasnt able to catch THIS dazzling show, unfortunately, it sounds to me like prince put on the show "of all shows" of his ONA tour, here in the USA! how cool is that? answer= 2. the man gets better all the time... he really wanted to make his grand finale "the best". All those hours of fantastic music, and showmanship. I do hope we have another year of the NPGMC, and princes awesome performances wherever he decides to play...and hopefully it will be alot! hope he keeps adorning us with his brilliance & talent. no one else like him in the world, imo. THANKS PRINCE!

{actually, after my plane landed in Vegas I pretty much didn't stress about anything at all that day, for the first time in awhile that I can remember at a Prince concert}.

lol

What a great review! Wish I could have been there. Sounds like a real jam session both at the show and aftershow. Great guest artists. I figured Cyndi Lauper would have done "When You Were Mine." Would have loved to see Nikki Costa live. Sounds like Prince was really into you all as well. What a way to end 2002.
I can understand your high! May it stay with you into the New Year!

When we got in, the band only played for about 20 minutes, and the short soundcheck was:

Funky instrumental (similar to one played at the aftershow)
777-9311 / The Stick (instrumental)
Xenophobia (different arrangement than the ONA Live cd...this one was played on the keyboards and had a much faster tempo)

Xenophobia was KILLER!!! Just amazing, I really loved that version nod I wish he'd play 777 all the way through one day!!! pray

At that point, Prince walked off the stage and the soundcheck was over. He didn't interact with the crowd much (if at all) and there was no singing during this soundcheck.

I guess everyone's forgetting the drunk girl who tried to pull him off stage, huh? lol Damn, I wonder if that was Natasha?? :O

Push and Pull (Nikka Costa on vocals)

Nikka was excellent, I'd been dying to see her live. Her voice is very powerful, very nice. Have her back @ the Celebration!!!

During the song, he called someone from the audience to join him on stage and nod yes when he said "the radio is not my friend anymore" and sat on her lap.

I boiled with jealousy during this sad Couldn't he have picked me??? sad

With a keyboard intro, Question of U sounded AWESOME, including one of his best guitar solos... Whole Lotta Love was only a verse long, but sounded rockin' as ever... For the first time that I know of in about 6 years, Prince didn't play "Raspberry Beret" during the concert after "Take Me With U". That's a good thing. smile

All true nod

For the encore, Prince came out in an all-white outfit that included a cape (my friend described it as Prince's Jedi outfit).

It wasn't a cape, LOL! It was a shirt w/ a train & matching pants. The train was LONG, I really thought he was gonna trip over it but he worked it - moved it out of his way when he needed to, untangled his mic from the stringy things hanging off the shirt - Prince got tricks, man... disbelief

After Nothing Compares 2 U, Prince said good night again, walked off the stage, and then came pacing back...

What's with all the "goodnight, Vegas!" stuff?? Is it just to make us go nuts??? I guess so lol

After a long wait, Prince took the stage at 1:45 and played a 90-minute, mostly instrumental set which included many really long jams that I had never heard.

Kat Dyson was GREAT!!! I didn't know she had it in her but she showed me!! worship

And the version of Sign of the Times he did FUCKING ROCKED!!! As tired as I was, I couldn't stop moving to that one. SO DAMN GOOD!!!

I do hate that the aftershow was so "jammy" - I wanted some SONGS & to hear him sing!! Lots of long jams, similar beats, solos for days - not much Prince doing HIS thing. It's cool to let other people shine (Cyndi was okay, Nikka & Cat were GREAT) but what a bitch gotta do to hear Calhoun Square? Beautiful Strange?? Hell, just put Sheila on the mic & do Love Bizarre!!!

Whatever, I had fun... biggrin
heart prince I never met you, but I LOVE you & I will forever!! Thank you for being YOU - my little Princey, the best to EVER do it prince heart

Yeah the aftershow was a let down, especially after witnissing for me the most mindblowing main gig I've ever seen or heard him play; he was on point & the band was in the pocket during the whole show, the most seamless I've ever seen him.. Cyndi Lauper was a surprise at Studio 54 & she looked a little uncomfortable having to improvise, she kept looking over her shoulder hoping P would come out & rescue her by taking the mike away. My girl & I left the Alladin before the last encore hoping to get a seat at Studio 54, we were lucky enough to get up above & watch it sittng down. I felt bad for the members who stood on the floor & waited for 2 + hours. I've "been there" before & wisely took another course of action. Much love to the members of the Bump Squad I hadn't seen in awhile (Watz up chris?) & to Bobby who did his thing all night! Can't wait till next time.. farfunk

I think we got the aftershow (specialties) at the main show and Studio 54 was just a killer jam out to end it! The jams were amazing. But overall the Aladdin was one of the finest ONA shows he did all year.

After the concert, I asked Cyndi Lauper why she didn't play When U Were Mine, and she looked at me blankly, like she forgot that she ever sang that song. In my review, I forgot to mention that Sheila E, during the last song, was actually playing Blackwell's drums BACKWARDS! He was sitting on the drums and she was facing him playing the cymbals...that was too cool!

Cyndi's voice sounded good but she did seem a little out of her element...

This was only because of how Prince works. He simply says 'go up there and do YOUR thang'. Impromptu performances may have a twinge of unpolishedness as the guest has little practice or even interaction with the band beforehand. In Cindi's case, I'm willing to be there was NO preperation, and for that, she was scatin' and keeping up pretty well with the band.

Wazzzup Soul!! Hope you're feelin' betta!
