Club Nokia - WTF?

We weren't let in to the "Midnight" show until 1:15pm...when we enter the place, Prince is already playing. When we ask how long he'd been playing we're told 3-4 minutes. (Can anyone confirm this?)

Then the band jams some slow jazz while Prince is backstage. He finally comes out and does a few tunes, and then it's over. 1 hour and 10 minutes. Most of which the man was absent. For this I pay $100?

This is the first concert I've ever been to that was so lame everyone leaving was bitching. EVERYONE was pissed.

WTF?

Dude that doesn't even make sense. The only similarity between the two is that we're both bitter. Why does that bring a smile to your face?

yes, we were let in a little later than the original 11:30 time they had originally said, but I was told that they were waiting for Prince to finish up in the Congo room before they let people in. Once we got in the band started playing some jazzy tunes and was then joined by Prince just after 1:00. But you weren't happy with his "few tunes"? The encore was amazing, with chaka khan and some nice slow old songs...But I'm way too tired to type anymore

amazing

The line to get in Club Nokia didn't start moving until about 12:30am. I'd say I got in around 12:45. Prince came on stage just before 1:00am. The show definitely was not over after that first hour. He came back for an encore and brought out Chaka Khan to perform Sweet Thing. From there he performed nothing but old material: Scandalous, Beautiful Ones, Nothing Compares 2 U...just the few I can think of off the top of my head.

Maybe the front of the line got in before the show started, but we and all the people behind us sure as hell didn't. Why would I make that up?

Having seen the set list in another thread, I think we missed at least three songs. Luckily I saw the 7pm show...if this one had been the only thing I saw tonight, I'd be pulling my teeth out in anger.

I was in the front of the line and was able to get down in the pit. I noticed that when Prince started playing a lot of people in the balcony were barely being seated. I thought to myself that sucks because most of the seats were still empty.

Exactly! Why the hell would you keep everyone waiting outside, knowing full well how long it's going to take to get that many people through security? The damn place is empty...let us in! The freaking show was supposed to start at midnight! We'd gladly have sat in our seats and waited, rather then outside on the dang street - and we wouldn't have missed any of the show!

well, I wasn't there - so I'm not one to critique but this appears to me to be at least the 2nd best show of the 3 (best IMHO would be the Conga room - "NPG Trio" v2)

now as Prince wasn't on stage all through the show, yeah thats disappointing - but there is some classic (and also officially yet to be released - I hope) greats there.....In a Large Room With No Light and When the Lights Go Down LIVE - that's worth the entry by itself LOL

sorry, but if this didn't float your boat, thats unfortunate - but what were you expecting - and why so? Prince has played the hits 'for the last time' for so bloody long I, for one, am glad he's finally playing something different!

Prince can't keep us all happy at the same time..accept that and move on - he's not a jukebox and I know of several people who have been absolutely thrilled by todays shows including this one!!

Prince's output is varied - u could have guessed somewhere in the 3 shows there'd be some jazz....my bet was it'd be the last show....I'm not really taken by too much 'jazz' either personally - but looking at that setlist - was it really that bad?

or was it more that the sound was that bad? shame if the sound wasn't good - cos teh show 'reads' very well - which I haven't been able to say for the last few years LOL - they've all been pretty much the same shows for at least the last 5 years....

Show began at 1am and ended at 2:25am.

Dude, you really downplayed this show. First 45 min was jazz jams and the second 45 min was all old school classic Prince ballads. Fantastic!

Club Nokia show was way different than the first show, but loved them both for different reasons cool

I'm TOTALLY ok with the Jazz. I was expecting that. What chipped me off was 1) being let in LATE and missing some of the show, and 2) consequently, he was on stage for under an hour! He kept walking off and leaving the band to slow jam. I paid to see Prince! When HE was on stage it was great!

I kinda feel you on this but I think we need to consider that the man is not 20 anymore. I paid $250 a ticket to take SEVERAL friends to see him in SF a couple years back. At first I was pissed that he would vanish during every other song and let Shelby take over. Then I remembered that I was witnessing a Rock Icon, no matter how brief, and should appreciate every/any CLASSIC he decided to play for us.

Speak the truth ... it is hard to remember how long the little funkster has been doing this. Most of us have had the privilege of seeing him jump off the piano to the splits, for example, but those days are long gone. For cryin out loud, keep his (former) contemporaries in mind, lol.

I would be pissed off too if I was let in late. You paid to see a performance not stand in line..... and yes you did miss part of the show. I remember looking up at the balcony from the floor and thinking WOW look at all those empty seats, I thought it was sold out.

Was I the only one that was happy with my seats and experience? I had a great time. I managed to score VIP seats via Craiglist. Let me tell you, the only reason the seats in the balcony weren't filled when you looked up is because we had plasma screens in the VIP section that let us see when he finally hit the stage.
Back in the VIP section, I was able to see Ms. Bria, Chaka Khan and Antionio Villarigosa. People of LA, please rest assured that your mayor has excellent taste in music.

As general rule, I refuse to go see shows that do not have assigned seats for the reasons that were listed in most of the complaint threads posted in the last day. However, if you EVER go back to Club Nokia, make sure that you get a VIP hook-up somewhere. I was able to get into line at 11:30, get into the private elevator by 12 and laze about and have drinks until he began playing.

Did I mention I was in the second row? woot!
I don't have time to listen to new music, I've got too much old Prince to discover. Classic example : I was at club Nokia at the midnight show and didn't know "In a large room with no lights" . . . my bad Prince

...and you wonder why your experience was so much better than others? All I ask is to allowed to be seated before the show starts. Is that too much? Especially considering "VIPS" get let in waaaaay before the show started. What kind of bs is that? There was NO good reason to keep us all standing in line outdoors while the theater sat empty. Utter BS.

Responses you will get from the org

1) Quit yer complainin! Translation: you paid 100.00 to see the purple one. It's worth it because it helps pay for his expenses to the Lotus experience (OOoooo the Lotus! )

2) I had a great time, I don't know what your complaining about Translation: I like watching lounge by the numbers covers that lack serious energy and I enjoyed my evening & will never admit I got ripped off.

3) It was the venue's fault not Princes! Translation: I will never admit that prince is an ass to venue's regarding Sound & most people just end up not messing with him.

4) Piss off! Prince doesnt owe you nothing Translation: I am unable to criticially think at anything . I get angry if it's not a positive comment about Prince. I have emotional issues & my parents dropped me on my head alot

5) Well, it was an aftershow and that requires jamming, you should be happy you paid 100 dollars. Translation: I am absolutely clueless what to say but I thought I would add my 2 cents.

Even though you are kind snarky. I am going to have to agree with you. BTW, I did feel slightly cheated. I thought that his tour 5 years ago was much better, but at least, I did not have to deal with all the GA crap. Like I said early, I NEVER buy GA tickets. Even to see the purple wonder. With a GA ticket you you stand too long and NEVER get treated right by the staff
