OK, now I will divulge: the surprise guest that never made it on stage!

Alright, now that the weekend has pased and I have recovered (at least partially), I will let you in on what could have been. I was at a crossroad in deciding whether or not to let you all in on this on thursday night, but I decided against it with my reasoning being that I didn't want to spoil the surprise.
OK, so thursday night I'm hanging out at a bar in beverly hills, 1912, and who do I see having a drink at a table with his bodyguard? RONNIE WOODS! He says he's in town to play with Prince saturday night! I thought for sure Ronnie was going to come out and play 'Miss You' with Prince for the second encore at Club Nokia to end the three shows but for whatever reason it didn't happen. The sound was too bad? Prince had had enough? Ronnie couldn't make it to any of the three shows? Anyway, Ronnie Woods was so chill and hopsitable. I was disappointed it didn't happen. By the way, does anyone know how their friendship originated? My guess is that it happened when Prince opened up for the Stones and got booed off the stage in the early eighties that ronnie befriended him but that's just a guess. I'd be really interested if anyone knows or thinks of anything different. -phunk

Ron Woods was there at the Conga Room watching the show but I think he left because someone said a drink was spilled on him. I don't know if that's true but he was definitely there in the crowd (the seated section) jamming to Prince. Would have been cool if he had gotten up there for a version of Miss You but I don't think it would have really fit the format too well.

thanks airbak, I didn't see him at the Conga Room. That's too bad. I could imagine he was upset that a drink got spilled on him, but its too bad if that's the reason why he didn't play. I think he would have been great at the Conga Room but even better at Club Nokia for a second encore.

Yeah, I was there with airbak, and we saw Ron Woods jamming away. He was singing along from the crowd when Prince did "With a Little Help from My Friends." I thought it was too cool. I heard the story about the drink as well. I was shocked when I saw him leaving because he did seem like he was really into it.

However, I also wondered if he might have been a bit intimidated if he was supposed to play because Prince was certainly in his own galaxy at the Conga Room. Ron had a look of awe on his face during "I'm Yours," as did I. biggrin But, like you, I was hoping for Ron to jump up there so they could jam out a bit of "Miss You."

U know what? U might have hit the nail right on the head. I don't know much about the Stones but isn't Keith Richards supposed to be an unreal guitarist? Or is Prince in a different league?

OT: My first Prince show. I was there! biggrin The Stones liked to bill themselves with eclectic openers, and at the time, Prince certainly fit that bill. Too bad the rockers in the audience didn't have the appreciation.

Prince to Give Ronnie Wood the Sheena Easton Treatment?
Here is something interesting:

Rolling Stones rocker RONNIE WOOD has been picked for a live duet with pop superstar PRINCE, according to his daughter. Leah Wood...claims he requested the rocker join him on stage at a recent gig in London. Unfortunately, Ronnie had to snub the offer due to pre-arranged travel commitments.... She says, "Prince called up my dad an hour before his show in Camden, and asked him to join him on stage. "I'm going to spike up his hair especially."
Prince's taste in proteges has certainly changed in his old age.

That drinkin gets out of control too easily(need no drinkin clubs-just an opinion) & the drunks don't realize how they can spoil one's mood-as they mess your outfit up too! I think it would have changed Prince's mood-if someone threw a beer all over his cloths as he was walkin to the stage & had no time to change-just would have to do the show smellin that way! I can feel Ron! There is no excuse for drunks to get sloppy! As they often drive too & kill someone's Loved ones! Besides-as a Nurse we can't keep-up with all the liver Transplant requests from Alcohol Cirrhosis(sp?)=self destruction of the Liver! It's quite Ugly! You turn Orange in color! sad

Peace!
