Who has been in Rows 1-3 at a concert? How did you do it? Was it reserved seating or GA? I have only seen him once and I was much farther back, and I want to be in one of these rows if he goes on tour again.
I went to see Van Halen last year when they went on tour... got in on the presale through ticketmaster cuz I wanted really good seats... I was on there the SECOND it started, and ended up with row 26ish. I was wondering if they just don't give out these great tickets up front this way? I have seen the first couple rows on Ebay for well over a thousand dollars, which I obviously don't have. Also, how was your experience?

I was in the 2nd row for the musicology tour..but that was when the npgmc was open and I was a member..they had a presale for members. Also, had a presale for tickets to see him at Paisley Park and that was general admission..but i was still early enough to get 3rd row center..Not sure what they do now...

Yes, I've been in the first two-three rows of a concert. For the Prince show at the Nokia Theater, I sat in Row H in the center section which for me today is perfect. Close enough to see everything clearly without having to rely on the video monitors yet far back enough to take in the entire stage. Also, the mix sounds better farther from the stage than close to it.
How did I get the tix? From the box office. I've never paid a scalper or a broker for good/great seats. Sometimes you have to be patient and roll the dice a bit, but it's usually paid off for me. I've seen Santana, Dream Theater, Bela Fleck & the Flecktones, Marcus Miller, Tuck & Patti and Parliament/Funkadelic from the front row. It's cool to be that close after having crappy seats but again, it's not my preference to spend the show craning my neck up to see the musicians' crotches..! But yeah, it can be a great experience to see artistry in motion from that perspective.

I was in the first row for the musicology show at the Oakland Arena in Oakland, CA. I got the tickets through the presale on the npg website for members. I was so shocked when I recieved the tickets from will call. It was the best show I've been to. I was so close to Prince and the band members. I am so thankful to have had that experience. Prince believes he is a musical prophet that has been chosen by Jehova to guide his fans to the "truth".

I have gotten the first 4 rows both through the NPG music club and by lining up early years ago. Hopefully, Lotusflow3r will be like NPG, cuz P really did take care of members w/ the presales and sound checks- great tix and first admission to general admission shows.
It never hurts to know someone at any given venue to secure great seats, or back in the day- late 70's and 80's before the fanclubs, we use to just go days ahead to a venue w/ bunch of friends and spend the night and have a blast... got to meet true fans from all over and it was like a big party at the ticket "stakeouts." We would all order food together, have a few cocktails, and just get to know each other- fond memories...

Musicolgy I was in the 4th row. NPGMC took care of me that time.
Lotusflow3r I was in the second row in the VIP section at Club Nokia. I had to pay a scalper for those. I don't have time to listen to new music, I've got too much old Prince to discover. Classic example : I was at club Nokia at the midnight show and didn't know "In a large room with no lights" . . . my bad Prince

Thanks for all the replies everyone... I did join Lotusflow3r the day it opened, but I wasn't sure if I would get good tickets through the site or not after my experience with the last concert. It's good to know that Prince takes care of his people with the tickets. Now I just have to hope for a tour haha. It has been 5 years since he has actually went on a full tour rather than camping out in Vegas, London, LA, NY, etc...

Musicology first row. Was 11th row first show, hoped to be closer third show (skipped second show cuz I thought 2 concerts and 3 aftershows would be enough).
Rubbed the shoulder of the guy ahead of me at will call for good luck. Got first row by John Blackwell. Unbelieveable - but sooooo loud. Got earplugs from security guy, but took them out and toughed it out instead. Got drumsticks from John and he also autographed them for my son, who is a drummer. Also got white "sweat" towel (John's, I think). Think of that show every time I use it to dust now. Join Lotusflow3r and you will not be disappointed.

I saw him from the front row @ an aftershow. I had to stand there for 2 hours (having to pee) before he came on just to save my spot. It was well worth it, bruised ribs and all from being squished into the wall seperating me from the stage. I could have grabbed his foot!! It was so amazing.....

My first ever Prince concert was at Montreal for the ONA tour. I was lucky enough to sit in the front row, dead center, only a couple of feet directly in front of his mic stand. It was an incredible experience!

Let's see....
For the first two GA shows, I simply spent the day waiting outside the venue. At Paisley Park, I found an out-of-the-way spot to the side of the stage, almost behind it. For the '98 Indy show, we went to an out-of-the-way Ticketmaster outlet and were first in line when tickets went on sale. Also, my friend and I bought scattered single tickets instead of a pair. For Indy '02, another prince.org member sold me his extra front-row ticket at face value. For Indy and Seattle '04, I bought my tickets through the NPGMC presale within seconds of them going on sale. (Also, I picked up an extra front-row ticket for Indy and resold it to another prince.org member at face value... I guess I was "paying forward" the favor I'd received two years earlier.) So, there was no secret strategy... just planning and luck. Also note from my experiences that prince.org might help you get prime seats. Also, how was your experience?
It was fun to be in the front row, especially when it happened at my very first Prince concert. And I got some "gifts" at the 2004 shows... I think I ended up with five drum heads, three drumsticks, a two-handed handshake from Prince, and one Tootsie Pop. That said, I attended a third show in 2004 where our seats were in the ninth row of the regular, non-floor arena seating, and I thought the view of the stage was much better, especially given the in-the-round setup they were using on that tour. Also, the sound quality isn't the greatest in the front row. Maybe I'm jaded or just getting older, but I doubt that I'll ever try to get front row at any future general admission concerts. Spending the day waiting and then standing for hours while crammed against a barricade gets very tiring. Please note: effective March 21, 2010, I've stepped down from my prince.org Moderator position. |
