I went to all three shows and the last two were definitely for the fans. I loved evey moment of them. My sister and I had an experience like yours when we got back to our hotel. There was a couple on the elevator who had only gone to the last show and they said the show was "horrible." I asked if they were serious and they said yes. They talked about how they wanted to hear his hits, and we told them that was what he did at the first show. We named all the hits he did and they were lamenting that they did not go to that one.

My sister and I laughed because though we enjoyed the first show, we were in heaven at the last two. We knew the causal fans or people who cannot appreciate great musicianship would not get the last two, and we did not care. We knew for whom he did those shows - the real fans. And unlike this reporter and her crew, we knew every song he played. lol wink

Totally agree with you! I got lucky in that I just went to the last two shows. I am still, as I type, completely blown away by what I witnessed at the Conga Room!!!! I've seen Prince 25+ times and that had to be top 3 for guitar-driven show. I've dreamed about seeing him cover Hendrix and he plays Spanish Castle Magic for the first time in his career (at least I've never heard him cover it b4), Elvis's All Shook Up, Colonized Mind and Dreamer (my 2 favs off Lotus Flow3r)!! The Conga Room made up for the slowness of Club Nokia although I was trippin when he did 'When the Lights Go Down'. U hit it right on the mark. The first show was for the bandwagons, the second and third was for us!! -phunk

I dont know about you but I am still on my purple high.....

That sux that Prince was having so many problems with the sound system that night. I realize that sometimes things like that can happen, but damn.
RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

I DONT THINK THE GENERAL PUBLIC UNDERSTANDS! The sound system was SEVERELY malfunctioning!!!!!

This is a very big deal for any performer, especially Prince, who is not only dependent on this to hear and deliver accurate notes to the listner but relying on it to convey the quality of performance his fans expect and demand.

He was very right to be upset and thrown off. Also in expressing to his fans his displeasure, to let them know that he cares (even if they don't get it) and should be applauded for attempting to give them a good show in spite of this. Furthermore, it is not his fault the sound system failed to deliver. At that level of operations and venue, poor sound is unacceptable!!!
(It is the life blood of the performer and the venues reputation)

Those conditions effect/ed everything from mood to energy to a fans perception and attitude.

Prince has been doing this long enough to know what he wants out a performance (maybe 100's of times)from lighting to sound and it is the venue and staffs responsibility to deliver and they failed!

So direct your frustration at them and not Prince!

Oh...and by the way He's also been performing long enough for even a casual "fan" to know that he likes to play late and whatever he wants. Its his prerogative to do that since he's the one doing the playing and not the fans.

Its really a shame the lack of respect for a living legend
(musta thought they were at the MJ show!)

I only made it to the first show and the performance was completely hindered by the unbelievably bad sound. I could not hear a word he sang. EVERYTHING was distorted. Whatever money the venues received from the performances should be refunded to the fans that had to suffer through that horrible excuse of a mix. I have to commend Prince though; he really tried worked hard to give the fans a good performance despite the mix. I wish I had made it to the Conga room show. It was not from lack of trying.

WORD!!! I agree with all the above!
He was totally professional and had the attitude of 'the show must go on' for the people at the show..

haha I was gonna say your MJ call too ...if you are going to see Prince - expect to see PRINCE!!! Sounds like some people just didn't know how lucky they were being there!

Also, I liked the initial review. Was entertaining getting a blow by blow from someone who wasn't down with "everything Prince" - although my jaw dropped when I heard they left early!!! ....no words for that
Ishan Cooper - #BATFUNKCRAZY LP out now.. in 3D!!! https://ishancooper.bandcamp.com PURE UNCUT FUNK FROM DOWNUNDER \m/
