1:17 Convinced he is not even singing lyrics now, just whimpering in falsetto. "Bernard Arnetto" is doing most of the heavy lifting for this show, mustering Hammond, flute, vox, horns, strings out of his massive synth setup. Am told this is what the Bria Valente record sounds like. Bria Valente never appears.

falloff at the "bernard Arnetto"...haha poor renato...and the "Bria never appears," what a surprise! NOT!

how come she was included (when no one seems to want her...from what ive read here) in the 3-disc set and then not EVER perform...whats the point? is he hiding her? i just find it strange that she isnt even performing....correct me if i am wrong...

I 4 1 am very interested in hearing bria sing live and won't mind if at some point she's up on stage singing her heart out.
man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

Funny Review! Thanks. I was at the first and last show and the real show for true fans was the last one. I knew it would be this way. I walked out on a purple high and have not come down yet. I heard a man telling someone on the streets that the show sucked and he didnt know any songs and how the first show ws the best, I just sat there and was in awwwww in he only knew how that show was for fans. I am still on the purple high and wont come down for a while.
[Edited 3/30/09 12:51pm]

I went to all three shows and the last two were definitely for the fans. I loved evey moment of them. My sister and I had an experience like yours when we got back to our hotel. There was a couple on the elevator who had only gone to the last show and they said the show was "horrible." I asked if they were serious and they said yes. They talked about how they wanted to hear his hits, and we told them that was what he did at the first show. We named all the hits he did and they were lamenting that they did not go to that one.

My sister and I laughed because though we enjoyed the first show, we were in heaven at the last two. We knew the causal fans or people who cannot appreciate great musicianship would not get the last two, and we did not care. We knew for whom he did those shows - the real fans. And unlike this reporter and her crew, we knew every song he played. lol wink

Give me a break. We "the blind followers" can handle people critizing Prince. Life goes on.

Totally agree with you! I got lucky in that I just went to the last two shows. I am still, as I type, completely blown away by what I witnessed at the Conga Room!!!! I've seen Prince 25+ times and that had to be top 3 for guitar-driven show. I've dreamed about seeing him cover Hendrix and he plays Spanish Castle Magic for the first time in his career (at least I've never heard him cover it b4), Elvis's All Shook Up, Colonized Mind and Dreamer (my 2 favs off Lotus Flow3r)!! The Conga Room made up for the slowness of Club Nokia although I was trippin when he did 'When the Lights Go Down'. U hit it right on the mark. The first show was for the bandwagons, the second and third was for us!! -phunk

Everyone has their own opinions on what show they liked and why they liked it but it doesn't mean they aren't true fans. I consider myself a true fan and love almost everything P has done but when I go to one of his shows I want to shake my ass not sit and groove to the smooth sounds of Prince. I love his mellow stuff but I don't want a whole show full of it.

That was a fairly accurate review. I was only at the first show but it wasn't very good overall. Mostly slow and forgettable. Prince walked through large parts of it and there was very little to write home about. The crowd enjoyed it but overall it was a let down. Great review.

OK, whoever wrote this review is....nevermind, no comment. LOL

And, to the "drunk girl" the reviewer mentions at the end...WOW. Just, WOW. Why go to a concert PERIOD if you are THAT musically challenged?? If you are that retarded about what good music is, you may as well put sharp pencils in your ears and just start jabbing your eardrums--you obviously don't use 'em anyway. I mean, you would have to be completely deaf to not appreciate that third show. I don't care if you don't like jazz...the music...was...amazing. It was the best show I've EVER been to (and I've been to HUNDREDS of concerts), and the music was so beautiful, I got teary eyed more than once.

And, how the heck did the reviewer's Prince fan friend not know the majority of the songs??? LOL Ummm....

Ay, ay, ay.

Anyway, the 3rd show was so good, I can't even write a review. You just had to experience it to realize how beautiful it was. <333

PS-I would have loooved to have been at the 2nd concert, too. It sucks being poor. sad

Sometimes, I think a Prince fan would make a better critique to Prince shows as they know his music.

There seems to be a general consensus that the 1st show was for a wide audience, and that as the night progressed the shows became a performance for the avid fans. If this is true, was it wise? As a lover of all things Prince, I would have been overwhelmed by some of the songs he decided to perform. However, these shows were a part of a huge media blitz, and had been hawked for three nights on Leno. Being on Leno seems to me to be an attempt at engaging a larger audience in hopes of driving sales, and it doesn't seem as if these shows will accomplish that. There really is no denying that Prince isa dynamic/fantastic/gifted/ electric live performer. However, media/release/sales strategy has not been an area in which he always excels. I just wonder if theses shows, plus what I felt were lackluster appearance on Leno, haven't served to already dampen any expectations Prince may have of increased sales and connecting with a broader audience?

This is a pathetic review. Couldn't they of found someone who was actually excited about getting the job to go see Prince LIVE for 3 shows in one night. For the love of god they were concerts not funerals. This review was so unenthusiatic and boring she might as well of been describing how paint dried. With this type of review it is no wonder Newspapers and magazines are in trouble. Where have all the writers gone?

A balanced report that detailed both the highs and the lows of the show set. She gave those of us who couldn't be there a good explanation of what went down. Well done, especially for someone who is probably only a casual fan. I approve. clapping

But surprise, surprise, the purple fucktards among us are labelling the reviewer a "hater" rolleyes and are waiting with pitchforks and nooses for her, all because she gave a fair review instead of licking Lil Man's asshole. Idiots.

I thought this review was funny also. I was at the first and last show.

I thoroughly enjoyed the first show. Was it the best Prince concert I've ever attended? No, I'd have to give that nod to the show at the 3121 Club in Vegas I saw in April 07. But I still had a great time. It started off slow at first, but when he started playing Controversy, the whole place went crazy and everybody was jumping up and down the whole song. It was a non-stop party after that, culminating in him doing The Bird/Jungle Love and Glamourous Life with a "surprise" appearance by Shiela E (I know she owns the Conga Room at the Nokia so I was happy to see her, but not exactly surprised she was there).

Now, for the midnight/last show, things got off to a rocky start for me. First of all, I was waiting in the cold for about two hours just to get in, only to find that the show had already started. The guy next to me said I had missed 2 songs (which turned out to be instrumentals that Prince sat out on). I also was bit confused about the song selection. For example, I'd never heard of Large Room With No Light before, so I didn't have the same appreciation for it that everyone here seems to have. Honestly, the only "bootleg" of Prince I've ever heard of was The Black Album. But you know what? During the first show, I remember telling someone how much I loved "If I Was Your Girlfriend" even though it didn't do that well when it was released as a single. So perhaps the last show was about Prince rewarding his die hard fans with some rarities and under appreciated gems, and I can totally understand and appreciate that. The highlights of the last show, for me, were Sweet Thing with Chaka Khan singing, accompanied by Prince on guitar (no band), The Beautiful Ones, which Price TORE UP (at the end, when Prince started screaming do you want him, or do you want me, it literally game me chills) and Nothing Compares 2 U. I was hoping for one more encore, but I'm satisfied with what I got. It just proves to me what a talented performer, musician and prodigy Prince is.

I DONT THINK THE GENERAL PUBLIC UNDERSTANDS! The sound system was SEVERELY malfunctioning!!!!!

This is a very big deal for any performer, especially Prince, who is not only dependent on this to hear and deliver accurate notes to the listner but relying on it to convey the quality of performance his fans expect and demand.

He was very right to be upset and thrown off. Also in expressing to his fans his displeasure, to let them know that he cares (even if they don't get it) and should be applauded for attempting to give them a good show in spite of this. Furthermore, it is not his fault the sound system failed to deliver. At that level of operations and venue, poor sound is unacceptable!!!
(It is the life blood of the performer and the venues reputation)

Those conditions effect/ed everything from mood to energy to a fans perception and attitude.

Prince has been doing this long enough to know what he wants out a performance (maybe 100's of times)from lighting to sound and it is the venue and staffs responsibility to deliver and they failed!

So direct your frustration at them and not Prince!

Oh...and by the way He's also been performing long enough for even a casual "fan" to know that he likes to play late and whatever he wants. Its his prerogative to do that since he's the one doing the playing and not the fans.

Its really a shame the lack of respect for a living legend
(musta thought they were at the MJ show!)
