Here dude is on TV singing about rich people being greedy and blah blah and he's having youtube pull videos. That said he tore shit up. I love Prince , love the music, but I call Bull Shit on that. Don't be throwing your shit in the crowd if you ain't gonna leave it. Even in MLB or NFL if something goes up in the stands like a favorite bat or glove the star usually trades something to the fan to get it back. So with that said I poo poo on Prince for that. It was obviously done to make him look awesome. and the song rocked and he was awesome as usual. Oh for goodness sakes, it wasn't for keeps. It something Prince has been doing for years, and most fans that attend his shows are aware of that. Any fan that has been to his shows over the years know that by now, and if this guy is a fan, he knew that too, but used the whole ordeal as a story for TMZ. No big deal, and it's cool that he got to hold Prince's guitar, but he had to know he had to give it back. Besides he says he's a fan and has tkts to all P's performances this week, so I doubt if his story is hurting Prince's career. [Edited 3/28/09 11:01am] hey I've seen him plenty of times all the way back to 1981 so don't act like your some super fan and I'm an idiot loser fan. Still I call bull shit on Prince. Cool he got to hold it,but still thats just some of his bull crap. Look how cool I am to the fans and watch me piss on his real fans websites and videos. Dude is a greedy MF. I'm all about making dollars but if your gonna do that shit and take it back you should at least give the dude a pick or something. Just my opinion. I love dude but he's asshole. Love the music , love the show , love the musicianship but he's straight up a punk. Singing about AIG in his song and he's worried about you listen to his song or a cover of his song on youtube. you tell me who the greedy one is.

I know I've read here before that there was a recent performance that Prince did the same thing
and the audience just passed the guitar amongst themselves, but one lady started to hold it like she was gonna keep it. The guitar techs went and finally retrieved it. lol. Seems like the general audience knows that this is a thing he does and doesn't mean he's giving it to them. Just thought I'd mention this...

on the other hand, "redskin", as in the football team, is directly racist as it differentiates someone by their ethnicity or skin color. see the difference? WOW! Think before typing man! The terms 'emperor', 'Fuhrer' and 'dictator' do not refer to historical mistakes and with the exception of 'Fuhrer' are not related to any ethnicity. 'Emperor' is the only on that refers to a position at all. There have been a great many emperors in history. Many of them have been good and others not so good. In fact, Japan still has an emperor although he is mostly a figurehead. 'Fuhrer' is simply a German word meaning 'leader'. It isn't used by itself much now because of its ties to Nazi Germany but is is still used in everyday words such as Fuhrerschein (driver's license). The world is still full of dictators. As for 'redskin', or 'Indian giver' ... maybe they are racist terms or maybe they are not. For an American Indian to be called a 'redskin' is no different than to call a black person 'black'. It is a descriptive term. It refers to the color of their skin. Now, if you say it in a derogatory context, then it is racist. If you knowingly use the term as an offensive remark, it is racist. The intent has to be there. If the term 'Indian giver' is part of your vocabulary from when you were a kid and to you it simply means someone who gives you something and then takes it back, its not racist for you to use it in that context. Once you learn that it is, indeed offensive, continued use of the term is wrong but still not racist unless you intend it to be racist. Then, it is just insensitive. The headline should be changed if they are concerned about being sensitive but that doesn't mean it was a racist comment. [Edited 3/28/09 22:33pm] [Edited 3/28/09 22:35pm] Look at me, Baby! How much do U think a Fender Strat is worth dude? Hahaha. Its not the value of "A Fender Strat" - its the value of HIS STRAT!!! It is most valuable to the player of the instrument that has got it to respond exactly how he wants - and has also got his other gear to respond to that particular guitar too. I have seen many concerts with artists giving guitars to people to hold at the end of a song/show and none of these people would expect that it was a gift. Most artists including Prince have a personal connection with the instruments they use.. They become an extension of themselves for their own creativity! I happen to work for TMZ (don't hate me) and I wrote about it for the site. Check it out here. Congrats on a great moment and being the envy of many a Prince fan! I would be very surprised if any musician would just give one of their favourite instruments away like that though, so I don't think you are owed anything. Also, what is up with the racist title of the article?!? I mean really?!? I hope that wasn't your own doing!!! All of my guitar playing friends have all said the same thing.."If he had given me his guitar, I would have ripped out a solo so he knew I played".
P had so many effects going on at once. The notes would have been inaudible. I wonder if that was intentional?

I know this has been said quite a few times in this thread but I have to say it again....
If this TMZ guy has ever been to a Prince show before - he would have known that he does this ALL the TIME and you then politely give it back to his techs. Why the F would you be deserving to "keep" one of his guitars? Especially after you admit to working for TMZ.... please. Peace-

Prince did the same thing with me at a concert in Houston a few years ago. As he was playing an amazing guitar solo in front of me on the front row (with the same looking guitar) he flipped the guitar over his head and layed it down into my hands as it was still strumming and strutted away. A stage hand came to retrieve it shortly thereafter. I believe it is just a part of his act. I never thought I would be actually able to keep it. Would have be cool. Nontheless, it was a great Prince moment for me.

Is it possible that the TMZ guy was just joking around? I think people are taking this a bit seriously. It was a tongue-in-cheek article he wrote for laughs. It's FUNNY that Prince gave him the guitar and maybe, for a brief second, he thought that he might get to keep it and then reality came in the form of a guitar tech. I know I'd have that same thought just for a moment.
Should I be worried about John Blackwell coming after some drum sticks that he handed me back in 2004?

2elijah said: Handing his guitar to fans is part of a ritual Prince does during his performances. He passes and hands his guitar for fans to hold or touch, and his tech guys always retrieves it from the fans, because you're [b]suppose to give it back, not keep it,as most Prince fans are aware of that. .or didn't you know that? [/b] Funny story that you're basically calling him an "indian giver" as implied in your headline. You may have offended some folks with that term though, so you may want to remove that implied term from the headline of your article before TMZ gets a ton of emails from people who may be offended by it. He does not know that... he's not a "real" Prince fan.
