most obviously, the world doesn't phreak out when the terms "emperor", "furher" or "dictator" are used to describe a previous presidency. that's because they're a reference to historical mistakes, which all coincidentally are ethnically related. they escape criticism because the phrases don't contain a blatant *pointer* to a particular group. if one were to spend a few minutes of research, the tune may change.

on the other hand, "redskin", as in the football team, is directly racist as it differentiates someone by their ethnicity or skin color. see the difference?

As for 'redskin', or 'Indian giver' ... maybe they are racist terms or maybe they are not. For an American Indian to be called a 'redskin' is no different than to call a black person 'black'. It is a descriptive term. It refers to the color of their skin. Now, if you say it in a derogatory context, then it is racist. If you knowingly use the term as an offensive remark, it is racist. The intent has to be there. If the term 'Indian giver' is part of your vocabulary from when you were a kid and to you it simply means someone who gives you something and then takes it back, its not racist for you to use it in that context. Once you learn that it is, indeed offensive, continued use of the term is wrong but still not racist unless you intend it to be racist. Then, it is just insensitive.

The headline should be changed if they are concerned about being sensitive but that doesn't mean it was a racist comment.

Is it possible that the TMZ guy was just joking around? I think people are taking this a bit seriously. It was a tongue-in-cheek article he wrote for laughs. It's FUNNY that Prince gave him the guitar and maybe, for a brief second, he thought that he might get to keep it and then reality came in the form of a guitar tech. I know I'd have that same thought just for a moment.
Should I be worried about John Blackwell coming after some drum sticks that he handed me back in 2004?

Handing his guitar to fans is part of a ritual Prince does during his performances. He passes and hands his guitar for fans to hold or touch, and his tech guys always retrieves it from the fans, because you're [b]suppose to give it back, not keep it,as most Prince fans are aware of that. .or didn't you know that? [/b]
Funny story that you're basically calling him an "indian giver" as implied in your headline.

You may have offended some folks with that term though, so you may want to remove that implied term from the headline of your article before TMZ gets a ton of emails from people who may be offended by it.
