I happen to work for TMZ (don't hate me) and I wrote about it for the site. Check it out here. So since Prince did his good deed for the day, you have to return the favor and name one star that you will be nice to and not photograph - FOR A MONTH!

Of course you all are confusing "gave you his guitar" with "handed you his guitar". It's really not the same thing. The wonderful thing is the TMZ guy got to HOLD his guitar, while the audience at home could still hear it playing. He held it up like the trophy it is, so we could all share the moment with him. Love it.

it's not priceless to Prince. it's priceless to us because he touched it, to Prince it's just his and has a price -- what he paid for it. and that's thousands of dollars ...which may or may-not feel like $100.00 to him.

I don't know why everyone is giving this guy shit. I think Prince gave the dude the guitar under the illusion he was giving his fan a guitar. Instead he pulls a Morris from Purple Rain. Keep the change... jerome get my change.
Here dude is on TV singing about rich people being greedy and blah blah and he's having youtube pull videos. That said he tore shit up. I love Prince , love the music, but I call Bull Shit on that. Don't be throwing your shit in the crowd if you ain't gonna leave it. Even in MLB or NFL if something goes up in the stands like a favorite bat or glove the star usually trades something to the fan to get it back. So with that said I poo poo on Prince for that. It was obviously done to make him look awesome. and the song rocked and he was awesome as usual.

some of you are smoking some great stuff. the term "indian giver" is NOT racist. what it refers to is the historical fact that european explorers/settlers/invaders/conquerors/slaughtermen came to north america, and gave the native americans (incorrectly named indians) goods and services, then aptly took them back under false pretense. although i would agree that the term "indian" may be incorrectly used, it is NOT racist. it is a (very sad) fact of history which describes an act of reclaiming something of which was given or bartered to someone else.
most obviously, the world doesn't phreak out when the terms "emperor", "furher" or "dictator" are used to describe a previous presidency. that's because they're a reference to historical mistakes, which all coincidentally are ethnically related. they escape criticism because the phrases don't contain a blatant *pointer* to a particular group. if one were to spend a few minutes of research, the tune may change. on the other hand, "redskin", as in the football team, is directly racist as it differentiates someone by their ethnicity or skin color. see the difference? keep your story line, mr. author. he handed it to fans at the avalon a month ago and today when we were at the tonight show outside concert he handed it to someone he brought up on stage and even left with him to play it. of course when the song was done the guy graciously handed it back to the tech To Sir, with Love

I voted "No".
Why should he expect to keep it?

I saw that and was like "someone's gonna take it back from him" and sure enough, there it goes across the screen as Leno's talking and nobody's listening to him. You should have like started playing Smoke on the Water or something like that.
No, he doesn't owe you a guitar! Sorry 'bout that! I don't think you are a racist because of the "Indian Giver" headline. It was a very common expression not too long ago. It's just insensitive and should be removed from the TMZ site so as not to detract from the other awesomeness that is on there. Look at me, Baby! What can I say? Ain't no other fish in the sea!

It something Prince has been doing for years, and most fans that attend his shows are aware of that. Any fan that has been to his shows over the years know that by now, and if this guy is a fan, he knew that too, but used the whole ordeal as a story for TMZ. No big deal, and it's cool that he got to hold Prince's guitar, but he had to know he had to give it back. Besides he says he's a fan and has tkts to all P's performances this week, so I doubt if his story is hurting Prince's career. [Edited 3/28/09 11:01am]

japanrocks said: Congrats!! And pay no attention to the negative comments - they are just jealous.
Also; was it just me or did Prince actually look like he wanted to hand the guitar to the 'real fans' behind the TMZ guys at first. Then he kinda realized that might cause trouble, so he just settled for the two guys in the front. Either way - the performance was great. Thanks for holding the guitar up. The noise it made when you did that was pretty cool too. The TMZ guy he handed it to is a real fan. Christian Zombie Vampires

Prince let you "hold" his guitar. Almost every performance he tosses his guitar up in the hair and Takumi (I think that is his guitar techs name) catches it. Does that mean, he gets to keep it?? Probably not. That was cool either way, added to the excitement on the show. I would NOT like to have the job responsibilty to catch Prince's guitar every night!

"controversy" Sorry OV, but you are WRONG !! Do some research before you post such tripe !! It IS a racist term !! Indian giver (or Indian gift) is a North American English expression used to describe a person who gives something and later wants it back, or something equivalent in return. The term "Indian gift" was first referenced in 1765 by Thomas Hutchinson,[1] and "Indian giver" was first cited in John Russell Bartlett's Dictionary of Americanisms (1860)[2] as "Indian giver. When an Indian gives any thing, he expects to receive an equivalent, or to have his gift returned." The phrase is considered a racial stereotype and is often offensive, as it implies that Native Americans commonly practiced this behavior. Nyquil...you need to change the title of your article....you should know better IMO. And NO Prince didn't give you his guitar...he does this all the time. You would know that if you really were a fan ! L4L Live4Love&LoveWillLive4U
