3 new albums in 2009. What about a show?

Just read the article:
http://latimesblogs.latim...ith-p.html

about Prince's promise of three albums in 2009 and his thoughts on Proposition 8.

I'm thrilled! Seriously.

I can't see any 'major retailer' releasing 3 albums from 1 artist in a year, it would be commercial suicide, all 3 albums would fail as they couldn't be marketed, he would be better taking the best tracks from each album and putting them into 1 kick arse album, maximise the advertising/airplay etc, abit like what happened with SOTT, which was a trimmed crystal ball + others.

Unless he's done a deal with poundland, that would be cool, £3 for 3 new Prince albums biggrin

I can see a tour happening, he's not toured in 18 months, its a new year, after the Ireland fiasco I can see him wanting to get out and clear his name abit, and he may have 3 album to promote, that will be an interesting set list, every opportunity to drop the hits if he's got 3 albums worth of new material...

I'm worried thats too many. I'd rather have one kick ass album than 3 ok ones. Quality more than quantity! I can guarantee there will be at least 3 or 4 tracks on each we'll probably all skip. I hope I'm wrong! And yes, lets see him tour this stuff. We were ridiculously lucky here in London that summer of 2007. We want more!! Happy new year to you all by the way. cool

allot of people have been stung not been able to play the NPG music club stuff they downloaded a few years ago, so I'd check what protection is on any music you buy online from Prince.

I prefer a physical CD, with the sleeve/artwork etc, its just not the same when you download tracks.

The last few Prince albums were for me decidedly average and what worries me is that we will have another Emancipation on our hands, 3 albums which could be slimmed down to 1 killer album.

I just hope you get to see the man live and soon..there is nothing on this planet that can prepare you for such an experience.

The fans on Prince.org will welcome 3 albums, great, lots of music, even if a few tracks on each album are excellent and the rest are average, the more you hear from Prince the better, don't get me wrong.

But for the average music fan, they won't buy 3 Prince albums in a year, they'll buy the 1 with the single they hear and like, or if they heaven't heard the rest of the tracks on there, they may not bother buying any of the albums, whereas if Prince took the best couple of tracks from the 3 albums, put them together in 1 killer album, or a double, like SOTT, people will buy it as they would have heard a few tracks from it on the radio/TV etc, also a really great review from the press will sell albums, whereas 3 average reviews will not sell many albums .....

Your right, I haven't heard the albums, so I am pre-judging them, but with Prince's track record over the last 10-15 years, I can't see him releasing albums of the quality of the likes of ATWIAD, SOTT and Parade in 1 year, he needs 3 outstanding albums like that too sell them individually.

As for the respect of Prince going it alone and not dealing with record companys, thats not morals from Prince, thats all about maximising the $$$$, if a major came in and offerred him a great deal, he'd sign straight away if it was gonna give him more $$$$.

I'm hoping for 3 great albums, but I'm not anticipating it .... will be interesting to see if just plays the tracks from the 3 albums on a tour though, he'd have enough new material and he's been banging on about the last hits tour for years, this is the perfect opportunity to do that.

It is 2 Prince albums and 1 Bria Valente album. Personally, I can't wait for the 2 Prince discs.

And please Prince, come back to London, 21 more nights would be good. biggrin
RIP sad
