A year ago today!

I just woke from one of my rare Prince dreams. I dreamt I was hanging around waiting for the Prince show to begin and someone told me that one of Prince's people were giving out a few tickets to the aftershow.

When i woke up I realised that tomorrow is August 1st 2008, a year ago to the day, the 1st of Prince, 21 Nights In London @ the O2. A year ago when I embarked on a crazy, insane schedule of seeing all 21 shows and all 21 aftershows/parties. cool Ahh sweet memories biggrin

Come back Prince! We need a gig!!

I think this is a first night memory...someone correct me if I am wrong

The o2 is emptying as the house lights have now gone back up..I'm half way down the stairs and start hearing cheering..rush back up into the arena and low and behold..his majesty is back on stage..can't for the life of me remember what he played mind..its all a blur.

Am I the only one who thought Dr John was pretty good???

Sounds like the first night's encore when he came back out with just his guitar. I missed it as I'd already ducked out to get in the aftershow queue. mad

Fortunately, the next show I went to, he started with just him and his guitar, so it was as if I'd just carried on where I left off. biggrin

i was stood over the walkway where he exited the arena. we were waiting for the arena to clear out so we didn't have to walk out with the rabble. and then, he walked straight out surrounded by bouncers. i tingled with excitement. it was awesome. then, he got on stage and played little red corvette on his guitar, on his own. great site. especially as everyone had ran forward to surround the stage. very intimate. i think he played 3 songs in total, but i can't remember the second. all i know is that he closed of with get on the boat, with the band. was a great start to the tour. loved every minute of it!

It's been a long time since i signed in to this site but thought 12 months since the opening night was a good time to start back. Reading the posts over the last 12 months have been a bit uninspriring but I hoped a few memories would be posted over the next few weeks and this post is certainly one of them. The first night was unbelievable although I wish the crowd had got more into it. The final encore, which I still believe we were blessed to witness went as follows;

Little Red Corvette,
Raspberry Beret,
Sometimes It Snows in April,
Love Bizarre,
Get On The Boat,
Le Freak (Chic)

25 minutes of pleasure!

August 4...my "anniversary" today.

So,some memories, with the benefit of hindsight....

High points.

Sexy dancer/Le Freak/Controversy/I Feel 4 U section.

Take me with U.

Sometimes/little Red/raspberry beret.

Nothing compares 2 U.

Maceo!!

Not so high points

Ticketbastards!!!!!

Murky sound...(affecting particulary "Black Sweat").

Not so great version of "If I was...."

Every seat NOT a great seat.

The Twinz...cute but a bit much after 5 minutes.....

No real setlist surprises that night.....

The feeling that, while he's still great, his best days are over...

Still....glad to have been there.

My first out of four concerts wasnt until 17th August but wow when I think back to this time last year I was SO..... excited, hardly eating or sleeping for thinking about it.. i hadn't seen him perform live in 12 years and I certainly wasn't disappointed - have to say the best memories for me were being at the aftershow on September 1st and seeing him up close on balcony - he looked AMAZING and another highlight was being offered a ticket for the last nite concert by Tiger 7, when I was thinking i wouldnt be able to get a ticket- what a star THANKS AGAIN!!!!!

Did you see an aftershow eireboy? I don't think his best days are over, they're different because he's older obviously but his music takes you to another level/plane altogether, I've never experienced anything like it! I've seen shows, concerts, ballets, stuff I've raved about in the past, but NOTHING and I mean NOTHING lol compares to Prince live, especially in a small intimate setting - the man IS music! There's not one doubt in my mind about how privileged I was to see him that night! Fammy? Maybe... but I know what I'm saying is right! wink

No admit I didn't see the aftershow...saw him in a Paris aftershow a few years before and it's true he was great.

Maybe it's the music.....let's be honest the spark hasn't been there on recent albums so don't wait with bated breath to see what he'll do with the new songs.....

Aug. 4th was the aftershow with Nikka Costa - I really enjoyed it but Prince was only on stage for a few minutes. Still it was better than the night before.

Do you get the impression that he was 'feeling his way' with the first aftershows, wasn't sure about audience reaction, type of audience he could expect etc? He seemed to really get into it towards the end, it seemed he felt more and more comfortable with them...
