Irish media reaction to the cancellation: For The Love Of...
Little Man Pulls Big Show Prince has just pulled his outdoor gig at Croke Park, which was scheduled for next Monday. The little man is the first big gig casualty of this summer. Full story here. "Reasons beyond the control of Prince and MCD Productions" eh! After advertising this show like crazy for the past few months, promoters MCD made a point of saying that 55,161 punters had bought tickets for the show so as to dispel any rumours of poor ticket sales. I don't think I've ever seen this done before in a cancellation press release. If that's the true amount sold, you might say sales were by no means poor. However it was no doubt a poor figure in the eyes of MCD and Prince to justify the expense of putting on the show. Like everyone else, they had probably banked on flogging about 85,000 tickets in a number of hours, and this would have been reflected in their profit forecast. I wouldn't bank on the little man rescheduling. He may be the first of many cancellations this summer. Anyone disappointed with the news? Comments welcome: Steve.cummins@rte.ie

The way I see it, there'll be no European tour till 2009. He'll sign for Live Nation and play the new Point.
