IF there is an aftershow best way to get there? 4 of us coming over next Monday from Birmingham, never been to Dublin before, hope some of you locals can help.
If aftershow announced we have option of use of a car whilst we are there is it worth trying to park around Croke and what are the roads like with 60000+ trying to get out of there? How long would it take to walk into Dublin city centre from Croke. If no aftershow announced where best to go for a drink in town afterwards and do you have any late opening bars on a Monday night? cheers I've seen the future and it will be

surely no 80000+ people will go looking for an aftershow. So put on those Nike's or other running shoes and give it your best shot!

If aftershow announced we have option of use of a car whilst we are there is it worth trying to park around Croke and what are the roads like with 60000+ trying to get out of there? The roads probably won't be too bad - as far as vehicular traffic is concerned, but they'll get worse the closer you get to Croke Park. The majority of people going to the concert will probably approach and leave on foot - so they're what'll slow you down more than traffic. The roads surrounding it are either narrow or busy (or both) and you could have difficulty finding parking. As far as I know most (if not all) the roads in the area on which parking is allowed use a pay and display system, but as it's a mainly residential area you might have problems finding a space. Then again, you might be lucky. Croke Park itself only has parking for 600 vehicles, so that might also be full. On the other hand, I've seen it half empty on occasions, simply because people don't use it on the assumption it'll be full. In my opinion, unless you have any overwhelming reason for wanting to get a close as possible by car (for instance if you're ferrying someone wheelchair-bound, in which case get in touch with Croke Park here and they'll organise parking and easy access to the wheelchair area for you), you're far better off leaving your car at your hotel (or wherever you're staying) and getting to and from Croker by foot / public transport / taxi. How long would it take to walk into Dublin city centre from Croke.
Roughly half an hour. Given that there'll be hoards of people going the same direction that'll slow you down a bit, but not much. And it'll be a pleasant walk - there's usually a great post-concert buzz when you're heading into town, and after Prince it should be fucking electric. With any luck it won't be pissing rain either. Depending on which exit you're taking from Croke Park you'll either end up heading towards Amiens St or Dorset Street. Amiens Street is a slightly shorter walk, and if you're tired or lazy there should be plenty of taxi's - both the central bus station (Busarus) and one of the main train stations (Connelly) are on Amiens Street so plenty of taxis frequent the area. Mind you, given the night that's in it, they may all be full. If you end up going the Dorset Street direction it's slightly longer, but in my opinion a nicer walk, as you [tourguidemode] get to pass the Hugh Lane Art Gallery, The Garden of Remembrance, and stroll down majestic O'Connell street, gasping in awe and sheer 'what-the-fuck'ness at the big pointy 'Stiletto in the Ghetto', or 'Monument of Light', as it is affectionately known.[/tourguidemode] There's plenty of (probably full) taxis on the Dorset Street route too, but you also have the option of buses. I think any bus stop will do, pretty much all the buses going that direction head to the city centre. I'd opt for walking though, it'll probably take less time than waiting for a bus or taxi anyway. If no aftershow announced where best to go for a drink in town afterwards and do you have any late opening bars on a Monday night?
cheers It depends what you're looking for I suppose. There's hundreds of bars - everything from big 'superpubs' that hold thousands to spit'n'sawdust shebeens for a pint of plain. Have a look here. You can search for late licence pubs on there, although it doesn't list them all - and yes, there are plenty of them. There's plenty of clubs too, and other late night venues - wine bars, etc. I won't try to make any recommendations as I don't live in Dublin any more and I rarely go out there. There's plenty of other orgers in the Dublin area who are bound to have a better idea than me where to go. But rest assured, even if there's no aftershow, you will find plenty of places you can go for a few scoops or food or whatever you're after. I know some people are meeting up in The Big Tree beforehand, so there may well be a crowd gathering there after the concert as well. Other than that, the internet is your friend - there's plenty of guides and info on where to go and what to do in Dublin. Either that or wait for the Dublin orgers to respond here with their suggestions, and if they don't - seek them out and annoy them until they do. Hope some of that was useful to you. Lemmy, Bowie, Prince, Leonard. RIP.
