Prince Family Reunion report Hey all. Nope, Prince did NOT show up. A real bummer since they teased his presence for almost the entire evening. There was even a rumor on local radio that Prince's guitar had arrived at the Cabooze and had been sound checked. But it was all in vain.Having said that, it was still a great show. Talented musicians, great crowd and a concert that was almost three hours long with a 30 minute intermission.
Almost everyone who was listed on the bill was there. The only exceptions were Sonny T., Jamie Starr (Is a thief!), and VERY special guests. Dez Dickerson did show up for a brief appearence and played on "Little Red Corvette","Modern Man", and "Let's Work" (maybe 20 minutes). In addition, Tyka Nelson was rumored to be in the house (upstairs), signing autographs and taking pics. I didn't make my way up there because I thought at some point she would be on stage and to tell you the truth, I'm not familiar with her work. She never made it on stage. As for Jaimie Starr and VERY special guests, the organizers of this event dropped the ball on this one. I don't know who they were referring to when they listed "VERY special guests". Everyone was there. I mean Dez wasn't even a "Special Guest" because he was added to the bill late last week. The crowd thought they would at least get Morris or Rosie Gaines, or Chaka Khan, or Wendy and Lisa, or....you get my point. And the blatant mis-advertising of Jamie Starr(Prince)to be at the venue. Was this done just to sell tickets? I think anyone who is familiar with the history of Prince could assume that Jamie Starr is at the very least The Time, Morris, or Prince himself. Very disappointing. Although the show was good, one could feel the anticipation of Prince walking on stage. During the entire show, it felt as if this very talented group of musicians was kinda the warm-up act until HIS Badness was ready to make HIS presence known. The crowd was hyped, but reserved as to not to peak too soon. We were saving our best for Prince. There was some merchandise for sell. There was a small poster of "Prince Family Reunion" showing the list of performers, (hand drawn, old style, similar to a 60's Fillmore style), Dez Dickerson's book, a Truth Live CD, and a raffle for a new Fender Stratocaster signed by the musicians. Proceeds from the raffle went to charity. Overall, a very good show and a great time. Just couldn't help to feel a little bummed when the house lights came on and they began to break down the equipment. Believe me, I wasn't the only one hanging around with a look of denial on their face. Well, I think that covers it. I kept track of the set list, so here it is. There was one song towards the end of the show that I was not familiar with. If anyone out there who attended the show knows it, please help me out. It was the song after James Brown referred to Obama. Thanks. Thanks for that report indeed.
I was just getting all reflective about the years that have gone by... I realize that it's clear that he has a lot of friends who love him. I hope he's got something private with those people going on today. It would be a shame if he did not. Starrfighter

Hey, just wanted to say that this show was fantastic!!! I never thought for one minute that Prince would show, and with that in mind, we just set out to have a funky good time...and most certainly did!
Most of the band were really chatty - we managed to speak at length to Eric Leeds, Dez and Dr Fink, and got all of them and Michael B to sign our poster. Also got lots of pics with them. They were all most impressed that we'd come all the way from the UK for this gig The show was a real trip down memory lane, playing all the old stuff that Prince doesn't play any more.... a rare treat. Absolutely brilliant - yes it would have been great if Prince had showed up but that was unlikely to happen, but it was great even without him.

Thank you for the wonderful report.
I also figured Prince would not show up as he is close to the concert in Dublin. I have a feeling he's already over there to catch on the jet lag and prepare but it's just my two cents. I don't find it fair from the musicians to tease the crowd and disappoint them afterwards. I even think they do that to get people to come and stay. I do believe they are talented musicians but they kind of live in the shadow of Prince and they are aware of it so why not using it. Thanks again!

Nice and detailed report, thanks ! By the way, Modern Man is actually called Modernaire.
Too bad he didn´t show up but then again, I would not have expected it anyway. They probably meant Jamie Starr´s spirit when they mentioned him " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

Hi everyone! it's Tony, Tyka Nelson's personal assistant , and yes she was at the show. She was upstairs enjoying the music and loved every minute of it. She especially enjoyed everyone who approached her for pictures. She spoke with sooooo many people and was glad to chat with dr fink who came upstairs to see her. She was downstairs for a moment to take a few pictures with Dez.
