Rotterdam: Fun, Funk, Friendship and Rock! Can't find the words to describe what happened last night. After the soundcheck I thought my night was already good, not knowing that the best was still to come. Unlike last Ahoy concert he was in a great mood. Talked to the audience, in the beginning a discussion about what happneed when we were let in, made jokes with the audience and was happy! He also seemed to love it that Sheila E was there.
The songs at the soundcheck, great slection: Xenophobia (I love this song) Flashlight (first time I've seen him play it) the accoutstic songs, A Case Of U, Don't Play Me, The Truth, Telemarketeers Blues, all great, finishing it off with the Santana medley. Close to the end someone said something to him. Prince turned to the crowd and said "I've been told they have to open the doors and let the others in. I'm not gonna let 'em". And started the next song, I think it same the Santana Medley. Anyway somewhere during this song he said "open up the doors" but no-one actually came in before he left the stage. The main show. Amazing. Before it started, and the rings were half full you could here him say "I'm sorry for the delay, we will make it up for you" when The Question Of U started. At first I thought it was him singing and playing guitar over a tape, but it was the ONA live CD that was being played. I knew when he said Maceo (Parker) it was from the live CD. But it sounded GOOD. I'm not sure if the message was spoken live, or if it came also from the CD. Sheila playing drums on a long version of Purple Rain, The Ride, 7, Mellow, Anna Stesia. All great. The Ladder, send chills down my spine. Wonderfull with the audience singing at full force. You'll find accurate setlists somewhere else. The aftershow, or was it a Late Night Show. Either way, totally different than the main show. Where that one was funk based, this one was rock based. Lots and lots of heavy guitar and fierce soloing. Man can he get his guitar do the talking. Before the show started he walked into the arena to have a look. I was standing on the stairs when he walked in with a couple of bodyguards, drinking his cup of tea, checking out the crowd. Not many people noticed him. The way they entered and left the stage was strange. Through the main entrance, behind the bar. I liked it though, because each time they all were walking right past me. I always thought Sheila was bigger, but she's really small, but still oh so pretty. And the show, it ROCKED. All capitals. Prince was in a different mood than at the main show. He didn't talk much, not a lot of communication with the crowd other than telling us to clap or sing, but he let his guitar do the talking. The crowd was more tame than in Ahoy. And again, a whole lote of great song. Whole Lotta Love (YES finally seen him play it) Dolphin (again a big YES) The Question Of U, Calhoun Square (ohh YES), Beautiful Strange (Awww YES). John's drum solo, great. Playing the beat of TQOU, speeding it up, dropping to the TQOU beat, speeding it up, slowing it down, over and over. The crowd loved it, and he smiled as well, truly enjoying it. The ending was strange. He picked up the microphone stand, threw it to the side, lifted his guitar, threw it in the air and let it drop behind him, turned around, threw over Sheila's cymbal and left the stage. He seemed angry at that point, but it could also be the adrenaline. Then everybody walked out behind the bar again. Walking past the people he smiled again, so he probably wasn't really angry. Sheila was smiling a lot, shaking hands, Candy and Rhonda looked really happy. When I walked out John Blackwell was led back inside by 2 secrity guys. I arrived at Ahoy at 16:30 and I left Nighttown at 04:30. 12 hours of Prince filled extravaganza. It was so great. Sahar, nice meeting you, beautiful outfit for a beautiful girl. Have a save trip back.

What you heard was a recording, the start of the aftershow prince played in New York on 9/4/2002... Joy in repetition being the first song. "this especially prepared potato is called pomme de terre"

I loved it when he asked for a sigaret and then almost got a Marlboro packet thrown against his head... Sheila playing drums on a long version of Purple Rain
And she made some little fucks ups too... But that doesn't matter it's Sheila E. she can fuck up whatever she wants, I love her man!!! John's drum solo, great. Playing the beat of TQOU, speeding it up, dropping to the TQOU beat, speeding it up, slowing it down, over and over.
Threw "Dance On" and "When Doves Cry" in it too... This guy is pretty amazing... The ending was strange. He picked up the microphone stand, threw it to the side, lifted his guitar, threw it in the air and let it drop behind him
