Nighttown report(s)

Just got back from nighttown,
the show was different from anything i saw/heard before
I enjoyed myself, i thought that the first set was tending to overkill (a lot of heavy guitarwork) so he lost nighttown a bit.

Second set -> lots of funky stuff -> Renato Rules btw smile

highlights:

first song (untitled instrumental)
Beautiful strange
The question of u
Calhoun square
The One / Falling / ... medley
Funky stuff
Dolphin
Soul power

Sheila E. was there...
and Maceo wasn't.

i got to sleep now (it's 5:30u and my kids wake up at 7:30u sad

I keep remembering things: At the end of the show prince threw his guitar on the ground and just let it give feedback for 10 minutes (he was already gone then)

I hope someone has the complete setlist

Here's what i just posted in another thread.
---

I just got back from Nighttown, WOW !

The show started at around 2:15, ended 4:30, including a 15 minute break. It was nothing like the regular ONA concerts. (an expensive afterparty really, sorry, I can't help it, my keyboard made me do it)

Prince was in a very playfull mood. He played the guitar quite heavy during the show.
Some of the songs played (not in the correct order, and lots missing) were Bambi, Question of you, Dolphin, Mirror Mirror, and When you were mine,

A great show. One of the great parts was the Blackwell drumsolo before the break. He played the beat to Question of you, with crazy fast incredible drumsolo's in between. Just to pick up the QOU beat again. He did that about 10-15 times. It was like he was un-human. It made everyone laugh. I've never heard anything like it!

In the end Prince checked if his guitar still coundn't fly, and knocked over his mike and some Cymbals before he left.
The guitar made noise for about 15 mins. after he left (he can do almost anything with his pedals wink

A big thumbs up from me for this show (oh yeah, the first (Rotterdam Ahoy) concert was great as well).

Oh, something i forgot to mention..

It was Prince with his entire band. Maceo and Leeds were gone, i believe it was already like that in Milan.
Sheila E. was there (she also was at the regular concert).
Sheila didn't get a lot of attention, besides a couple of solo's. She was great though.

Candy got more fun with Prince. The 'play on the sax what i play on the guitar' kinda things.

*My* 0.02 Euro:

The first half Prince appeared to give a lot of solo's to the NPG members. He wasn't too sure, at least it appeared to me that way.
After the break the show was a bit better (more sureness or how do I say that in what he was playing, the songs he chose).
The end of the show was abrupt, unexpected and raw.

All in all the Bataclan gig was better in some ways but the Nighttown show can stand on it's own.

Maybe more after I rested a bit.

I think this show was by far the greatets I've ever saw. More on it later, it's 6.15 in the morning and I need to sleep and have purple dreams.

Artist: Eric B and Rakim
Album: Paid in Full
Song: I Know You Got Soul

It can be done but only I can do it
For those that can dance and clap your hands to it
I start to think and then I sink
Into the paper like I was ink
When I'm writing, I'm trapped in between the lines,
I escape when I finish the rhyme...
I got soul

You got it (4x)
I know you got soul

Veejay

a beautiful strange end of the show but what an extremely tight band and the guitar-playing by prince was soo intense!!!

whole lotta love was freaky cool, followed by family name (why didn't he play that song each night on the show??), when u were mine ,bambi, the question of u...WOW!

dolphin/calhoun square/beautiful strange were soo incredibly cool and concentrated played, the man was really into it. I think that explains the (beautiful) strange ending of the show, the adrenaline was pumping through his veins. And I had the idea that the crowd was just too overwhelmed to react to what just had happened! (I was in fact)

while the guitar was still making noise on the stage, Prince left the building via the back of the bar. People started to make their way out, but suddenly turned around because few of them had heard security people talking on mobiles about Prince wanting coming back in again. The situation then got really dangerous whit a crowd of people collapsing in a very small hallway.

btw: why to they call the soundcheck a soundcheck? Because what we heard in this so called soundcheck was just a show/concert in itself! At one point the security told him to stop because the other crowd were supposed to get into the venue. Prince told the guy "they can wait" and played on like he had all the time in the world!
