European Tour dates

No not rumoured or confirmed dates! But unusually I've been thinking:

There have been a lot of semi confirmed rumours that haven't happened (yet).
People have been asking "will Croke park be the biggest?" etc etc

Ireland has so far failed to sell out Croke park, quite a few of you are travelling from quite long distances to go.

Quite a few of us don't fancy Croke park for assorted reasons and the possibilty of better european venues stops us overcomming these reservations.

One can only assume most Irish fans have already got their tickets (so dissapointing they've not filled the place!), so where are the P organisation going to sell the rest of the tickets? The only place can be continental Europe (plus the UK for the Eurosceptics out there). Now what would be the guarenteed way to stop continenal Europeans buying Croke Park tickets? Correct! Confirm a mainland Europe Concert in a better venue.

So in my humble opinion, the P organisation will NOT confirm any European venues until Croke Park sells out. So come on "Funky Ireland" you must have some P fans somewhere! at the the moment it seems almost 50% of tickets have gone to non Irish fans. You wanted him there! Now support him.

This post has turned out rather long and if during the time I wrote it a European venue (Denmark would be good) has been confirmed, I'll be sooo happy to be wrong.

Would go to any European venue.
Always wanted to go to Dublin, so 2 flies in 1.

I don't care where we go go Princey, just take me with you. Or, err, let me buy those tickets.

Although it makes sense, I don't agree with you Lez about Prince not releasing dates because Croke Park hasn't sold out. Croke Park will sell out closer to the date. He is probably waiting to get a good venue for these fabled other dates.

I also don't get people quoting statistics like '50%' Irish ticket sales?! Where is this info from???

It's worth noting that Prince gave a lot of us a glut of great shows last year, for not a lot of money. He has spoiled us. I think a lot of European fans just might be holding out for a venue closer to their homes.

Anyone going to Croke will have a great time, you're after all going to see Prince!

For me though, I chose to pass even though I was offered good seats. The o2 was brilliant and I just don't think a stadium can top it.

It takes a lot to fill Croke Park - a capacity crowd is almost 2% of the population of the country. The average ticket price is 2.5 times that of the O2 gigs. That's the eqivalent of half the value of the tickets for all 21 London nights in one night in a relatively small country.

While there might be a large group coming from the UK, there sure won't be 50% of the crowd travelling into Ireland and whether Croke Park is a sell-out or not would have little effect on any non-UK gigs to be announced - anyone who is going to come here from continental Europe is probably going to go to other shows. All the other rumoured venues (bar Milan) are also in stadia, so if you want to see Prince this year, it's outdoor or nothing.

And your average Irish 'fan' isn't going to be here to read your appeal anyway - just the hardcore that helped fill the O2 last year and have their tickets from day one.

I didn't quote, well I have now but that's quoting you biggrin

I used MUN mathmatics (Made Up Numbers) based on a straw poll of the people on here saying they're comming. More of those are non Irish. However a significant majority of the crown will be the "sort of" fans, guys and gals who like the man, but aren't quite as fanatical as us nutters on here. I accept the majotity (if not all) of those will be Irish. However I still believe a significant minority will be non Irish (as a significant chunk of the O2 were non brits).

I can see 3 possible reasons for delays in the anouncements of the mythical European Gigs:

1: They would affect Croke Park sales, and once you've broke even on a gig every ticket sale is 100% profit!

2: The rumours of Jay Z leaving Glastonbury and P is in negotiations and will not commit to anything

3: They're not happening!

The post was an open letter to show I sometimes do think and I promise not a slur on our Irish cousins.

I think Lez has a point. With all my respect for Irish people, Dublin is not London. Even the O2 concerts were not filled in exclusively by Londoners/the British, plenty of people came from all over Europe. I even met fans from Japan.
So I can believe that filling up Croke Park must be a real challenge.

Unless he comes to Berlin, I would have to fly there anyway. To me it doesn't make a difference if the concert is in Munich, Cologne, Paris or Dublin, because either way I have to fly there. As long as its in Europe I'm on my way!

I used to live in Dublin, great city with fantastic night clubs!!!

Went to the concert and aftershow at the O2 last year on 18th August - it was fantastic.

But this year I have even better seats in the front section, yay!

Anyone want to meet up with me before the concert let me know, as I'll be flying over there by myself sad

Cannot wait, it's gonna be a blast biggrin

It would be very unusual for Prince to do a one off stadium gig outside the USA as its just not cost effective for the kind of show he puts on.
Although like the rest of u we are just speculating what may or may not happen I do KNOW from an official source at the City Of Manchester Stadium they have reserved a date for him to play. But that was a few weeks ago last I heard they where waiting for P himself to decide.
He would have done it by now if he was.
SO here is my GUESS...There will be other dates around europe but spread over quite a long time.

Sweet! How many times do I have to say I was just musing?
I said I have no inside knowledge, I was just speculating about the reasons for all the semi confirmed gigs.

Maybe we shouldn't have discussions, just say how wonderful Croke Park is!!!

If he comes to Germany, I'd say Hamburg or (and) Berlin are the cities that are the most likely ones. Just because AEG owns a big arena in both of the cities.

But THE O2 at Berlin will be opened only in fall 2008 (October or so) and then he isn't in Europe any more...
The Color Line Arena in Hamburg, however, is already ready to be funked up biggrin and so could be taken into consideration...

It's now 6 years ago that he was in Germany, One Nite Alone tour in 2002, and that is really long! confused He soooo should come this summer! Ooh YAY!

maybe he could release a new album, and then inside each album would be a free ticket to the croke parke show

and the catch would be that the album costs $20

just an idea to increase ticket sales

I got an email from O2 arena the other day and noticed there was nothing on from beginning of August to nearly the end of September too. Not for the arena or indigo2 that I could see. Didn't want to start any completely unfounded speculation though.

The fact that ticketmaster is now selling 334 and 333 says to me theyve sold all the way round from 301 as it seemed to me they were going around the stadium in order. Whenever Ive checked - and yes im a saddo and did it last year too - but the tix were coming up in that kind of order.

I dont know about the higher tiers tho, maybe they randomly sell those. each venue seems to have its own way of doing that. the 02 definitely sells its upper tiers first and the vips and then sells the lower more desirable tiers. ive found that since last last year, when booking other gigs.

I think people blamed Princes crew but Im sure its the venue that decides that.

Some say no smoke without fire - but as for other concerts - i dunno, there was so much speculation over musicology most of it from wolfy that never materialised. I guess people know peeps working for these venues and get the rumours started when an enquiry is made by npgmusic but still i wouldnt hold your breath.

I think its best to grab the chance while you can. If he plays another country ten fab, hopefully everyone will have the funds to travel and go - its all part of the fun anyway!!! last year was so much fun in the org and at the 02 and aftershows, meeting other orgers and housequakers!!
