Drinks at Croke Park

I noticed that someone mentioned that there were no drinks at Croke Park? Is this right? Not even on the stands? I have tickets on th Cusack stand, lower tier 303??? I thought this was Ireland biggrin

I went to a concert a few months ago and there was a beer stand but outside the main park, so there's no drinking in the stadium itself. Everyone had to spill out their drinks before showing their tickets to get in.
It was a complete pain. Dunno if it's the same for every concert, but I'd say so.

NO alcoholic drink allowed in the Stadium. Top removed from all water and soft drink bottles (a bottle can be used as a weapon when it is full and has top on). Yes it is Ireland and that is exactly why we get treated like kids. If people had more restraint and sense not to get so drunk and make a nuisance of themselves and a danger to others things would be different. But no. Idiots continue to act in a way that makes a show of ourselves and uphold the stereotype that all Irish are alcoholics.
Looking for a new man. Freaks need not apply. Freeeks can tho ;-p

Actually Studal I have to say, it’s an easy thing to go ‘drunk Irish’ stereotype, but I saw a lot of pretty obnoxious agressive plastered behaviour in the O2 last summer - nite after nite actually (glowstickgate aside) so don’t think we have a monopoly on pissed louts. We really don’t.

it is a shame that these stereotypes exist. but anther nite, the 02 proved to be a bit of a pain with people toing and froing during the concert and that was a very international audience. Ive always attended gigs and concerts where people can drink and its normal but at the prince one i think there so many 'must see him just once before you die' type people that they didnt really care, it was more of a night out to get wasted too! but the o2 is condusive to that with its bars, eaterys etc

having said that, maybe they dont like the mess at croke park, it was a beer river on the floor of the 02 - not too pleasant, ive not been to a gig with so much drink spillage and ive been to loads. usually people are having too much fun dancing and singing etc to worry too much about putting their beer on the floor and spilling it over! maybe its cos I was in VIP and their were probably loads of complimentary 'suits' in there on freebies?

dont you just hate that so many comps are given out to the organisers and city firms? those people mostly go cos they got 'freebies' and 'might as well - if its free!'. Just ruins the atmosphere close to the stage in my opinion!

OT but our local theatre has two nights of Lee Evans coming up. They were sold out before they went on sale. Corporates once again. I rang first thing in the morning from work and they had one seat left for the second night. Asked if four could sit on it but they said no.

The o2 was worse than ANY irish gig that I've been to. And thats a lot of gigs!
Yes I agree we are treated like kids in Ireland, don't agree with your reason why though.
I was shocked by the behaviour at the o2 and indigo club last year. I went to over half the nights with my wife and it seemed to get worse and worse. The last night was the worst by far. I actually got punched in the shoulder on VIP balcony by someone who wanted my seat!!!! Needless to say they go thrown out but the glowstick throwing was by far the most embarassing incident I've seen at a concert for a while. If i was Prince I would have walked off.

Lots of venues in dublin allow booze on their premises, The Olympia, Marley park, Vicar street etc etc. This does NOT mean there will be trouble at a gig, imho. Croke is just badly organised for gigs. Why no food inside? It is lazyness and cost cutting, no clean-up next day. No need to hire more staff.

I'm going to smuggle in a chicken sandwich and use it as a weapon of mass destruction.

cool cool biggrin biggrin biggrin biggrin

They do not serve drinks in the stadium. It is hard to even buy water. I had to wander around for 20mins to find someone selling water (in a back passage of venue with no sign) The guy had about 6 cases of mineral water. For 70,000 people
I think the venue could do better. And no food. If their pitch is so precious they shouldn't take our cash to see a gig there IMHO!

But can't wait anyway, i don't want to sound negative!

easy answer take a couple of bottles of drink with you and take a pair of spare lids hand over the lids off the bottles when asked and then when you are in the venue and not in an obvious place shove the spare lids back on the bottles if you are asked for the lids just say they werent taken off when you came in but make sure you hide the spare lids well cos its hard to explain a collection of spare lids lol

this concert is gonna be great i dont care if it is raining and we have no drinks or anything i just wanna get there and have a great time excited

The only reason for the lid thing is cos it becomes a dangerous misile full up with a lid on, no lid means it semi-emptie as its lobbed and causes less injury. Shame they didnt think of this with the glo stix.

I was so excited when they handed them out, it was so cool and yet a few numbnuts decided to lob them onto the lower tiers. As for people throwing them at the stage I couldnt believe it, so I guess the old demon 'health and safety' have it right about the lid thing.

I always take water to a gig, i dont bother with drinking alcohol, I can do that at home or later afterwards!! I dont want to miss a thing!!

Its getting exciting isnt it?

Best not try it while in the Gold circle. I like a bit of kinkiness but am not on to the idea of it being renamed the golden Shower circle. But if it is I wanna be in 'A'

I don't know where you got that information from, but it's not true.

If you mean no alcohol may be taken into the stadium from outside, then certainly that is true. But the stadium is equipped with full bar facilities, and they do sell alcohol.

It may be that certain acts (or promoters or whoever) decide not to allow alcohol at their concerts. There's no indication on the Croke Park website of a no alcohol policy, and indeed I'd be surprised if there was.

The last time I was there (U2) there was a full bar service. Whether or not there will be for the Prince concert I haven't a clue.

I have been several times. Alcohol was not allowed on the pitch. No bar facilities were available. There may have been up in the stands.

Thought I heard somewhere there are no alcoholic drink inside the venue. Or was that just some rumour?
All ok with me, though I hate a sticky floor or full bladder.
I'll have my drink afterwards while discussing the ins and outs of the concert with my org-mates or when we are inside the place where a aftershow is arranged.
