This guy.

He played the second O2 night's 'aftershow' - no sign of Prince on stage. Lots of pissed off people there that night.

falloff Oh NO!!!

And poor Dr John, I bet he felt like running away from all those pissed off, angry faces in the crowd lol

It wasn't a sudden thing, just people waiting for Prince to hit the stage. And waiting. And waiting..... Then people hanging round after the gig just in case. I thought his gig wasn't bad but the crowd weren't there for him.

I was OK as I'd been there the first night where he played with the NPG for a while but some I talked to had travelled over from France and The Netherlands for just the one night.

Highly edited conversation afterwards;
French Guy: 'F**k Dr. John. I came all the way from France to see f**king Dr. John
Me: No, f**k Prince! He's the one with the name on the tickets and he didn't bother playing. At least Dr. John played.

Shame for those guys!! Shame for everyone expecting to see Prince!

I think they rectified it about a week into the run, stating that he probably wouldn't appear at Indigo2 if there were consecutive main shows? If only they'd done it at the beginning! I think after that statement, he did every aftershow when not consecutive nights. I suppose the aftershows used to be something he did on the spur of the moment, if he was in the mood - now it's kind of expected I suppose.

When I went, I tried not to get my hopes up too high, it wasn't written in stone that he would appear - but I had a good vibe at the main show, he was in a really good mood. I was SO lucky that night! biggrin

You can kinda include me in that! I travelled over from Dublin for the first 3 nights and was hoping to see at least one full aftershow. Didn't happen - though the last Indigo2 show I saw was Nikka Costa and that was great despite a brief appearace by P.

Like you said, the lack of explanation was key. Many people knew about the aftershow vs afterparty thing and the tickets clearly stated 'Prince - Aftershow' though I wasn't convinced as having 21 full aftershows didn't seem realistic.

he was around though which was even more annoying lol at one point he was in the wings on the left hand side of the stage all in black he was only there for about a minute before shaking his head and going

dont get me wrong doctor john isnt to bad but when you have gone hoping to see Prince or even the NPG by themselves and get there to see his pedals set up and then end up with about 2 hours of doctor john its enough to put you off his music lol

canvas plimsoll type shoes are good cos they are nice and light as well as being small i am gonna get a pair from flexisole if i can find some

I wonder how many tickets they would have sold for the Indigo2 for the nights Prince was not due to be playing an aftershow if they would have been honest when tickets went on sale at the start, not many me thinks ....

yeah i am thinking when the guitar amps were turned off it should have been a big enough hint but yet everyone still stood there just incase lol

well that aftershow will surely be remembered by all those who were there even if Mr P didnt turn up on stage, looking back now i can only smile about it biggrin

Yes if there was to be a Westend musical based on Prince this could be one of the scenes…. the race to the aftershow……

eireboy playing a Fred Astaire type character who parts the crowd ahead with his parasol whilst laying a path of raspberry berets for darlingfloors his Ginger Rogers so her toes don’t touch the floor...

The rest of us in our flats (ballet shoes perhaps) will follow behind in a slightly haphazard procession of pirouettes, leaps and bounds
– nothing to strenuous if we can help it Jeffiner.

raspberry berets and rose tetals. You left that one out.
Shouldn't we rehearse that song we'll be singing while gracefully running?
Fred Astaire, that sounds good to me...
But meanwhile, where IS eireboy?

lets face it dr john dont look like that no more!

it was an awful night with peeps gettin drunk and anxious and pushing their way closer to the stage crushing those of us near the front.

Ill always remember the girl with long hair who had a humungous bag with ALL her makeup in, she get writihing around as tho she was watched and everynow and then flicked her hair into the face of a housequaker we'd met from from denmark. It was hilarious, Im not sure if she thought she was gonna 'pull' prince or what. but it made for good fun just watchin her.

as for dr john we ll tried to get into it but when ur so tired, worked all da and then at a late gig like that u need a good vibe and there wasnt any.

It was stale, the best thing was when he id his funny walk off the stage.

It was after that experience i decided never again to rush in to be stageside but to arrive gracefully and enjoy the music from anywhere in the venue as thats what its about for me - not being upto close to prince.
