Maybe 3121 is now over ? As equality grows, violence declines.

If the ticket cost was €31.21 the money taken would not even cover the cost of renting the stadium from the GAA. Let alone pay for the insurance, the security, the Garda presence or anything.
Get real. €31.21 was never going to happen. Oh and the fact that Ireland is not called 'rip off Ireland' for no reason. Looking for a new man. Freaks need not apply. Freeeks can tho ;-p

No it is not: you have stage an lightning design, travel costs and all spread over 21 gigs instead of 1. Same goes for touring: a lot more building an transporting needed. so the 21 gigs in one place is deffo the cheapest option.

I bet AEG/O2 offerred a really good deal to Prince to perform there over the summer, they would have been desperate to get a big headline act to raise the profile of the O2 as it had just opened, which Prince provided.

Nothing is spread if they are costed as an entity. 21 nights in london and one night in dublin still require all the equipment to be flown to and from the States once. Then you have cost of stay. 21 nights is 21 times more than one! Then you have security and venue hire. 21 nights will far outweight that of one night, even at a stadium. 21 nights at the O2 is obviously much more economical that 21 nights in different venues, but not against a one off stadium gig. Even if P did 21 seperate stadiums, the bums per seat ratio each night would still make it far more profitable than an arena like the 02. Every major tour promoter will tell you its more expensive to run 21 nights of anthing than a night or few at a stadium. .

Every major tour promoter will tell you its more expensive to run 21 nights of anthing than a night or few at a stadium. Transport to/from the US can not be seen as an entity. You spread the costs of flying in all the gear over 1 or over 21 concerts. So, if the costs are lets say 2.1 million for transport it is 2.1 million per gig in the event of 1 gig and 100.000 if spread over 21 gigs. same goes for the cost of designig, rehearsing etc etc etc. So what i am trying to say: some costs can and should be spread over the amount of gigs. other costs, like transportation and hotels etc can be seen as costs per gig (entity). But i must add to that that by staying in one hotel for 21 nights there must be some kind of discount. Of course you can make more money by playing large stadiums (if you are able to sell them out that is...)

Maybe because the dollar is so poor against the euro good for us going over there bad if your coming from the states

Every major tour promoter will tell you its more expensive to run 21 nights of anthing than a night or few at a stadium. Let’s say it costs £100k to transport the equipment from MPLS to a major European city. For 21 nights in London – Total Cost £200k – Two way trip. For Croke Park – total Cost £200k – Two way trip. Now look at security for per 20,000 members of public. Let’s call it £100,000. For 21 nights in London – total cost = £2.1m For Croke Park – total cost = £400k. Now look at accommodation. Let’s say to house the band, P and crew, we say 10K a night. For 21 nights in London – Total cost = £620k (Prince stayed 62 nights in town) For Croke Park – Total cost = £40k (estimating the average 4 nights per big gig town) Now look at catering, management and transport. Let’s call it £5k a day. For 21 nights in London – Total cost = £310k For Croke Park – Total cost = £15k So already..... 21 Nights in London = £3.23m Croke Park = £655k Whether these figures are correct is not the issue. It’s the ratio that’s important. It’s the 1 V’s 21 or the 20,000 people verses the 80,000 people that counts. The customer capacity ratio (bums on seats, if they both sell out) is 1:4 That already makes Croke more profitable. So what have we left out? Venue hire and marketing. This is not easy to guess, but two things can be assumed. Prince would have got a major discount on venue hire with O2, due to the block booking and the O2 being fairly new. However, a Europe wide advertising campaign would cost a fortune compared to an Irish/UK press campaign. An EU wide campaign has to cover at least 102 major newspaper and 80 TV channels. What we do know is that Croke Park’s average charge for a one off event, net of additional services is £500 euros (£400k). (They made £5m in 20 on one off events last year). The O2 is estimated to be £250K a night. Not a bad rate in London. Even if Prince got it for £100k a night, it cost him £400k per 80,000 people. So, in maths terms, rent can be dropped. We can even be super generous and drop the marketing costs, even though the 21 nights in London probably had 10 times that of Croke. That could be millions. But even without that, the ratios show that Croke is more efficient on cost. That’s BEFORE you consider tickets for Croke are more than doubles that of London! AND.... Prince is unlikely to come to Europe for one show. For every stadium he adds, improves the ratio. Stadium shows make a killing. Just ask U2 and The Rolling Stones. Arena’s come nowhere near, no matter how many nights you play. .

£31,21?
(for the far end of the stadium) Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

Sure, playing big stadiums is better for the money than playing arena's. That is if you sell them out. Of course Prince will make good arrangements, so he will probably have a profit even if the stadium doesn't sell out. So marketing costs may rise . There wasnt that much marketing over Europe last summer, at leas i didn't notice it. The word spread around and that was it.
My argument was that playing in one place for more nights is cheaper than playing is more places (of the same capacity) around Europe. It basically comes dowwn to the effect that, like last summer, Prince put the transportation costs at the side of the fans who where flying in from all over the place.

The interesting pricing area of the O2 was the tiering of the ticket pices, at the O2 it was a flat rate of £31.21, whether u was upper tier, lower tier or on the floor blocks, apart from the VIP of course when it was just a huge rip off ! thats really unusual for a concert, at the Ireland gig the prices are tiered for the quality of the ticket.
Must have been a really interesting meeting between the promoter and Prince's people when they announced all 20,000 tickets were gonna be £31.21 no matter where you are sat in the arena because that's what he called his album ! reminds me of the legendary meetings when the Revolutiuon turned up at Warners in 1985 with Around the World in a Day dressed in pyjamas and sat on the Warner Boardroom table to meet the Warner execs lol

The O2 Arena was establishing itself so getting an artist of Princes stature to play 21 Nights really put it on the map..can anyone say Wembley Arena?..who goes there anymore!

I'd be surprised if AEG/O2 decided on such a cheap price as £31.21, particulary with it being the name of his album, I thought they'd be more inclined to base it on 1999 and sell it tickets for £199.90 !!! did he get a flat fee then? normally artists take a cut of the ticket sales.

I wonder if AEG have some say/control over what the artist plays at a show when they've basically hired them like the Madonna/Prince deal, I'm guessing they'd be pushing for a greatest hits set, so they can flog tickets on the back of it, these tours are getting abit like the 80's nostalgia tours with artists turning up and playing all their hits from the 80's for people looking for a night of memorys/nostalgia.
