Main Dublin (Croke Park) concert discussion thread -- Part 2

Wow... over 430 posts in the "main" Dublin concert thread! Due to the length of that thread, and several requests from users, we've locked that thread and have created this new one to continue the discussion.

Sorry for any inconvenience, and enjoy the show! guitar
Please note: effective March 21, 2010, I've stepped down from my prince.org Moderator position.

i requested 4 this 2 happen along with others who felt that the thread was being hijacked and with the mods help i felt it was the best choice as when some weirdo made a new account using the name "mrswolfy" i knew that it would not end so n order 2 save that original info 4 the fams going 2 the dublin show this has now been created.
i really hope everyone understands n i will b ignoring any negative posts as a responce is what this person is looking 4...
due 2 this harrasment i encounted on here i will no longer b sharing N4mation on here regarding the dublin show.

This little scene from purple rain springs to my mind:

PRINCE
Can't you guys get off it?
Can't you just leave it alone?

Wendy meets his glare with one of her
own...

WENDY
Yeah -- we'll get off it.
U know there ain't no other

Where is everyone staying? I have been faffing around on hotel websites for days - can't decide on one! it is better to stay in city centre and walk back from Croke Park after concert (is that even do-able?) or better to just give up on idea of getting to aftershow and stick to hotel airport - just tell me where people are staying so I can stop messing about and book a bloody hotel room! lol

A couple are stopping at the Hilton Airport hotel. My missus and I are stopping at the one in town. Depends on how long you're in Dublin for I guess.

Yep. Even if you dont get into the aftershow, you have more of an option of places to go, coz we'll be on a high after the concert. Cant just go back to the hotel, oh no!!!

I am guessing ticket sales are going "OK" but not super, the pitch is sold out but the still selling tickets for the lower level seating areas. I was in the car today and there was a big push on radio with ads etc and I expect lots more print ads this week.

separately i read in the irish times today, planning permission in not granted for the gig, they are capped at 3 per year and Prince is gig #4 so application required. here is link, if some one has access please post as I read on hard -copy
http://www.ireland.com/ne...67753.html

imagine second worst case scenario is the concert got cancelled due to planning permission issues. worst case scenarion being Bono inviting himself on stage to sing with Prince during the show barf

Hey riverjones, worse case scenario made me chuckle biggrin
Second worse case scenario made me yelp-immediately brought me back to the 'sign o the times' tour-yikes. sad
Then to cap it off, just popped on TM website(as I do occasionally for some reason,(sad but true!!!) and the ticketing site for himself is down-routine mainenance, hmm mm, yeah right. Should I begin panicking now? What little seed have u sown in me 'ead??? Its too late on a friday night to be thinking this stuff wink Tee hee

What? Like there's going to be a concert in Ireland and there's going to be an aftershow!!! What's next? He'll be bringing a band and will sing for 2 hours?!Oh no! How will we ever manage?! You reap what you sow mate. I've always thought you've got an overinflated opinion of yourself. The font, the colour. You're a psychiatrists dream pal. You won't be able to stop yourself telling the rest of us your little pearls of gossip. Its in your genes.
Just enjoy the show and learn a little more humility.

as far as i can remember you are talking a 15-20 min walk to city centre, unless you get lucky with a taxi. usually there are so many people walking you don't notice it.

God, no. That bono is a self rightious big headed boring prick. (Not had my plus sign today) He cant ruin a great concert with his political babble. He should try for prime minister if he's that bothered and stop making shit music.
There, im done.

One thing that nobody's pointed out to you (maybe because we Irish are used to it) but our infrastructure is terrible. The Aircoachs to the airport are ok but other than that it's a kind of no mans land. To get anywhere in Dublin without a car you're relying on the public bus service which is horrible. It will be next to impossible to get a taxi after the gig. If you can afford the city centre then stay in the city centre - the city traffic's to bad for anything else really.

...just get a hotel in the city centre, DONT STAY NEAR THE AIRPORT ITS SHIT!!!!
If theres gonna be an after show party id say it`ll either be in The Academy (formally know as spirit) that the spot he used in 2002, 15 min walk from croke park. Crawdaddy/ where the POD used be in Hardcourt St, thats the spot he used in 95.15 mins in a taxi if u can get one or Vicar St which is more a venue than a club and chances are something else is on that night....Id put my money on the Acdamey, purple walls and all that shit and the sound is amazing I played a gig there myself two weeks ago!
Thats about it man.

can U imagine the Q outside the aftershow....by the time the fams that have gold tix get there they wont have a chance of gettin n hence why i opted 4 the hogan stand...my advice is 2 leave the main gig half way through.....its always a case of first come first served.
a nice touch by prince would b 2 offer the NPGMC members priority access 2 the aftershow where we could pay a fee of 100 euros each 4 the front rows...at spirit it was 50 euros 2 get n .i was like 10 feet away from prince ..got 2 shake hands with him n mrs wolfy got his guitar pick from takumi..that dude was so nice..that was peanuts 4 the terrific Xclusive show we got....

the way it works at croke park is they have several exits open 4 the pitch area but U will find it will take almost 4ever 2 leave the place n by the time U walk / get a taxi 2 the venue there will b a long Q,,,,,just being realistic,,,i went 2 the U2 gigs there n i know what its like....hopefully they will have a better plan 4 this gig...
if U r n gold n want 2 leave early then thats the best option 4 U.
im tryin 2 help U.
