Prince Dance Moves / Athletic feats

Topic for today!! biggrin

I was just remembering the 7 August main show. Prince did some kind of dive onto the stage at one point, and sort shimmied / glided along on his tummy - it was like eek Did he just do that? And HOW?! eek

He also dived under the Twinz legs at one point, and was looking up saying "Lookie lookie!", funny.

Does anyone remember any other dance/athletic moves from the shows? Or any other past shows for that matter.

Apart from that, my overriding memory is of him charging around the stage like a wild animal just let loose from it's cage! lol One minute he's here, now he's over there .....

He may be small/petite but he can really fill a stage - all his movements look 20 times bigger than they actually are - incredible. Being an ex-dancer, sometimes when I look at his performances I'm just as awe struck by his dancing / athletic feats / ability to fill a stage as by his music and singing! biggrin

I like your topic. nod There's this photo of Prince holding one of the twins with one arm while playing the guitar with the other. He's wearing an orange suit and he's smiling and he's got this look in his eyes. This might fit into the athletic feat category.

evillol Oooooh, baby, come here pat

Well, I had to "sell" my tickets for free for the 7th of August so I cannot tell anything (pout).
I've been to the O2 the 17th of August but I sat at F1, a little behind the stage so I really haven't seen much of him (pout).

If I compare his shows from the beginning with the jumping in the air and the running etc to now, he isn't even his shadow. He hasn't danced for a while (pout).

But he sure was very athletic years ago. He was a real grasshopper. The pirouets, the jumping from the high platforms eek with his high heals on, worship , if I jump from the second step of the stairs I feel my brains shake, it even smells in my nose, as if I fell out of a plane.

A french frie jumping versus a sack of potatoes jumping lol

Oh I wish I'd seen him all those years ago! I've no idea why not, I was always travelling with my work, just not in the right places at the right times I guess. It might have been too much for me though lol

And I'm sure you're nothing like a sack of potatoes lol lol

Well, you've seen him at the O2, that's worth something, if not a lot, imagine haven't seen him ever!

And what would P. weigh with his 1.58m? Between 40/45 kg? I'm 1.68 and 68kg, so he can fly if he wants to compared to me....

I'm going to bed now, freezing my butt off here.

i always said MJ is a decent dancer, well, he looks like someone stuck in quick cement, cant do splits and i am sure he could never dance on high heels, prince has simply more elegant movement to his moves, and is far more spontaneous than jackson was as a dancer, in the end i found jacksons dancing irritating to watch, similiar to having a hive to scratch, while prince was like having a message razz
If it were not for insanity, I would be sane.

Uhuh, MJ can sure dance but I've seen some concerts of him on tv because I was very curious how they were. I got sooooo annoyed. It was so learned by head, so fake. I could never have thought this, I really thought he was of a great caliber but I was very wrong. But that's my opinion because some of my friends who went, I believe in 1988, were swept away by his performance.
I thought it was feeling ill and bored

I'm really willing to say that there ain't nobody like Prince on stage.
Nowadays people like (liked) e.g Robbie Williams but he doesn't grow. Especially the first years Prince grew incredibly, with his looks, his music, his dance, everything. Even now, it ain't spectacular but it ain't boring after so many years. If I had a hat on I would take it off.

And now I'm really going to bed, must not be distracted so much by other people smile .

The splits have always been the most impressive especially the full splits done in housequake for both SOTT the movie and Lovesexy live! It's a shame that he dosen't do this no more! Age possibly?

Talking about SOTT how about the detroit crawl and the repeated splits during the moody end part of If I was your girlfriend? Not easy.

The Partyman video where he jumps up, scissor twists his legs across and then back round landing slightly cross legged only to spin, drop into the splits and bounce straight up - all in 3 seconds flat!! 17 horns are blowing!!!

In the glam slam video just as it's going into the last vocal chorus he does a spin and then jumps up and does this really fast foot shuffle (mid-air) - you'll be more impressed when you try doing it yourself and landing cleanly! (In 3" heels remember!) No cheating - Men, borrow your mums or girlfriends.

The one that wins it for me though and demonstrates the compact power house he is are in 2 scenes of Graffitti Bridge with Ingrid Chavez. The first during a question of U where he hooks one of her legs over his shoulder and stands up and totters over to his bike, and even moreso is during Joy in repetition where "he grabs her from the stage and together they ran through the back door!"

And boy, do those little legs run!!!! I wonder if he thought that the lyric he should've wrote was "he met her on the stage and together they just kissed cuz he didn't want to do his back in!!"

And Rosie Gaines wondered why she didn't get the part!!!

Honestly, I don't remember when I saw him in 2003 if he was energetic like you describe. Then again, he didn't stand in one place. hmmm
