Why are the House Lights On? Does anybody have any idea of why Prince calls for the house lights to be turned up so much?
In my opinion it detracts from the vibe and atmosphere of the show. There's a reason why the audience is usually in darknewss while the stage is lit -- it's so that the eyes of the people in the audience can see what's going on on the stage. Does anybody else have a hard time focusing on the stage when the house lights are turned up so much?

Man. I really can't relate to this. When he asks to turn the lights on that's because he wants to see us. It was one of those things that I really liked of this concert, it makes it intimate and personal. I can't understand that u don't get that.

Why don't you ask the people posting Mani/Mayte threads and "what size shoes does Prince wear" if they nothing better to do.

No, it does the exact opposite. It is not intimate and personal to have the houselights turned on. With the lights on, your eyes see 3,000 to 6,000 people around you instead of the 5 or 6 people on the stage. If he wants to see the audience, he can have the lighting techs scan the audience with spotlights from time to time.

I feel exactly the same as m3taverse. The only difference is that yesterday in Antwerp there were more than 15.000 waving the wild sign high !!

I've seen Roger Nelson in an arena with more than 15,000 and he didn't do a damn thing extra or special for us. That was the biggest audience that Roger has had in years. The sound system sucked. No aftershow. Nothing to acknowledge the love he was getting from such a big audience. He SUX. Prince

Houselights are cool. No other musisians do that kind of stuf. If you were the superstar you would like to see reactions of the audiance as well, don't you? Rather than staring for two hours in a black hole... In Antwerp you could see the crowd as a bis sea of people. Without the houselights you probably won't notice that...
In one word it's just funky! Turn the houselights on..I wanna see you!!! peace, newdawn
