I think I've been spoiled by the Prince shows I saw this Summer. Since then, I find that nothing really compares to them. Yesterday was okay-ish. I liked the first part better (Larry Johnson with Motown stuff). George Clinton was good, but his show didn't blow my mind like Prince's Aftershows did. The solo guitarist was excellent though, although the sound of his guitar was a bit drowned by the other instruments. They stopped at 10.15 and there was no encore. One guitarist told us afterwards that even he didn't expect the show to finish that early and was surprised when George suddenly took off.

But anyway, it was good to meet up with all the nice orgers (DoMeBaby69, Mentalist, Lovealotbare, LadyMissKat, LorMarcusMont, westv and hv3121).

kinda glad i didnt go now cause i was tempted....look like its bye bye 02 cause if i never see that shithole again ill b happy.

I enjoyed it, the band was great and George is always good fun. Signing autographs afterwards was really good of him. But:

The show was too short and George did not make good on his promise that we would be there all night.

The band - although excellent - felt too "nice". What I mean is, the last time I saw George it was with the P-Funk All Stars, so there's a guitar player in a huge nappy, etc. The freakiness for me is part of the appeal of the whole P-Funk thing (or thang, if you will). The Motown band's male singer had an amazing smooth voice, but couldn't carry off "let the MF burn" in a salmon pink blazer and slacks.

I would have liked to hear P-Funk (wants to get funked up), Maggot Brain, and One Nation Under A Groove.

The place looked half empty.

And going to the O2 when it's not for Prince made me feel a bit dejected on arrival!!!

But still, I enjoyed it.

Was worth the ticket price alone to hear a man of pensionable age proclaim 'Smell my finger!'. Loved it.

saw him in Virginia a month ago and the show was also short

it may have something to do with his age because i saw them about ten years ago and they played for over 5 hours and it was one jam after the next - amazing

A good gig, spoiled slightly by the poor sound mix and the short running time ('we gon' be here all night' my elbow). But an hour of P-funk madness is surely soe of the most fun one can have on a saturday night.
It's been too long since you've had your ass kicked properly:

His set was 50 minutes which seems to be the average for one of his shows these days

I'll think you'll find that 2 1/2 - 3 1/2 hrs is still the average length of a George Clinton/Parliament Funkadelic show - just check out all the recent reviews over at the One Nation P-Funk Boardroom.

I've heard that the concert was supposed to be a part of a tour with the P-Funk Allstars which got cancelled - maybe GC arranged to play with Jack Ashford's band last minute instead of cancelling the show. I think the band were excellent but it would have been hard for them to learn the whole set of another band who've been gigging for 40+ years at short notice.

Or... maybe GC was just too stoned? stoned

I got an email from AEG Live asking for feedback on the concert. I was going to tick the box to say I really enjoyed it but, as there wasn't anywhere to put further comments about the show, I decided to tick that "it was ok" due to the shortness. However, I did tick the box that said "I would definitely go to a George Clinton show again"
