Its weird as its usually only bands with fans who crowd surf and mosh that the barrier goes in for

I was surprised to see it in at the show

Perhaps they were expecting a Maceo mosh! biggrin

Encore was Pass The Peas! (Pardon my ignorance as usual, is this a James Brown tune? Is there a recording of it by Prince on an album somewhere?

Just the Live in Vegas DVD.[quote]

Thank you! Yap, got that DVD. No album verison then of Pass the Peas, that is a shame. It IS a James Brown song then?! (I could google that, just too lazy right now.) Anyone else heard the "Michelin Man song"??

The barrier only goes in at the request of the promoter. Likewise the steps down into the audience at the Prince aftershows were put in at the artists request

Gosh, I didn't quite realise that, that is interesting! The set-up Prince requested was very special then! I noticed that he had his guitar pedal set (that adjust the sound) put right at the very edge of the stage, so he could be right there in front of us, WITH us. I really felt he wanted to share himself completely. Shame he never did make that jump into the crowd! (I love that moment in Rave Un2 the Year 2000!)

I thought the support act, Laura somebody, was super. Pass the Peas and Baby Knows brought back the memories and Maceo was brilliant....but where was "Wonderful World????"

The night was made extra special by hanging with the org!! Domebaby69 and Mentalist, you rock to high heaven!! Jazzmeup - French is so sexy! And the rest of you (names, I'm so rubbish!) made things just great. I can't wait for GC - no work the next day!!

Sister says hello, and has found a new best friend in Mentalist!

OK, too many exclamation marks, but I've had a beer and it's late....see you all soon!

Maceo never played Wonderful World, that was Mike Phillips. To Be Or Not To Be was just pure cringe, obviously she has been watching old footage of JB with his infamous MC and tried to pull it off herself..give up love..it didn't work..you just didn't have da FONK!

Agreed, the support act was great apart from getting the big mans name wrong smile..but you were so nice and your songs were so good we'll forgive you smile

Hello LMM! smile

That was Laura Izibor, I had forgotten to mention her, yes, she is amazing (recently played at the Jazz Cafe). Her voice is like a blend of Amy Winehouse's and Alicia Keys. Excellent pianist as well.

Twas an excellent night - Maceo is an excellent musician in his own right and his band was tight! Skeet on the bass was particularly impressive, along with the new trombone player...Dennis something who was only on his second night with the band, although you wouldn't have known! Spoke to him briefly backstage after the show and he was really hyped up - obviously had enjoyed himself as much as we had all enjoyed his performance!

Ani di Franco was there too - got to meet her and her very cute baby girl...very sweet!!

And leave Maceo's manager alone - yes it's cheesy but it's part of the show and has been for quite some time!

The turnout was high...which I think was based on all the Prince fans there who were expecting/hoping for a surprise performance. I must say how disappointing it was for me to bump into a very drunk woman in the loos who said how she wasn't enjoying it "not quite Prince is it?"!!!

That was Dennis Rollins! All I could remember was his last name, so thanks for that! He was in hysterics throughout most of the show. Lovely guy. His happy attitude was so contagious, he even managed to make Maceo laugh quite hard at some point! A great night.

I agree. If it has been part of the show for some time, then it's way too long. It doesn't work. Everybody around me were looking at each other with a "WTF" face on. Credit to her for having the guts to come out and do it but it was clear from where I was standing that nobody wanted to hear it. It was embarrassing.

Shakespeare has never been my cup of tea either but when Maceo did the "to be or not to be - funky" bit it was funky! But when that woman got up and did it "looking as if she had every right", it was all wrong. Just wrong. It didn't work. She killed it.

Maceo was fantastic - he really looked to be enjoying himself, the band were into it and it got really funky & when we got to "Baby Knows" the room started to feel like it did during the Indigo2 Aftershows, we really enjoyed ourselves.

Now run & tell yo Mamma 'bout that.....

When did anyone tell you not to give an opinion? Calm down. You'll have a hernia!
