Really funky! Made me appreciate how darn good Maceo really is, even more so than during the 21nights. His band was awesome too. The two backing singers both had a solo spot and boy they could both sing real good! The crowd was really into them too as well as the rest of the band - super funky horns, keyboards and bass, real rocky guitar. Noticed that this guitar player had a completely different technique to Prince but still awesome. Great drums too! All round a great, funky evening! Maceo sang, danced, talked and directed the band - but he's best when he plays the sax or indeed the flute which he did too tonight! Laid down some amazing riffs with his trombone and trumpet players (the latter had also been with James Brown). Encore was Pass The Peas! (Pardon my ignorance as usual, is this a James Brown tune? Is there a recording of it by Prince on an album somewhere? It's just too funky! Also, what was that song b4 the warm-up artist came on which was played over the PA soon after Let's Work about the "Michelin man"?? That was so funny!) Oh yes, there was a great warm-up one woman band called Laura Izibor, great voice, you can check her out on iTunes.

Just got back from Maceo concert. Maceo and the band sure are funky but not funky in the Prince or George Clinton sense. More bluesy jazz than funk in my opinion. I didn't know many of the songs he did but he did do Baby Knows. He also mentioned Prince and Little Red Corvette but didn't sing it. Prince didn't show either which was not unexpected but hoped for. Glad to meet some orgers - JazzMeUp, LordMarcusMont and sister, Westv (where did you go?!), Ritaw and niece. See you all at George Clinton on 3rd November!

he said also said (after mentioning little red corvette, prince and the 21nights and how they love london, the o2 and indigo2) that they'll be back soon - not sure who "they" are - not prince surely! lol

maceo was wicked 2night - great show, was about to go home disappointed when he finished and no "pass the peas" but he came back on for a final performance to play it, and finished the night on top form!

the whole band were tight - top guitar player, amazing backing singers (got the crowd really hyped up )and wicked trombone/sax players (whose hand i managed to shake just b4 he walked off stage - dunno if anyone else saw that?!)

sooo glad i went! tempted to go to george clinton gig now!

brilliant night loved seeing maceo again and being at the indigo it brought all the memories of the summer back the only thing i would possible comment on as a downside was the guitar was very loud sometimes i thought it drowned out some of the others especially the singers glad he finished with pass the peas

Good to see people appreciated Maceo Parker as a first rate musician in his own right rather than as an appendage of the NPG

Yeah, I agree. I wasn't familiar with Maceo Parker as a musician in his own right - I just knew him as being in Prince's band. But he can certainly hold his own as an individual artist and I was very impressed.

However, I'd hope not to see his Manager in her tweed suit on stage reciting Shakespeare at any time in the future.

I really enjoyed it last night. Didn't really know much of the music but that didn't matter much.
Had originally intended leaving straight from work and meeting Domebaby69 et al at the venue but I had the bright idea of going home, getting the car and driving to The O2 - as it's so easy to get to by car. All well and good but when I tried to start the car I found out the battery was flat! Grrrr!!! Called the RAC and they came quite quickly but I wasn't able to get going until around 8. By the time I got there it was almost 8 and Maceo was on the point of coming on. Would have been nice to chat to Domebaby69 et al for more than the few seconds I got but I didn't get the chance to. Now considering George Clinton.
Domebaby69, did you stay on at all afterwards? I was going to wait behind to say hello again but wasn't sure whether you were still there. I should have waited a bit longer I suppose. Sorry about that and also sorry about being late!!
Seemed to be a lot less "pain in the arse" people last night then there have been at some of the Prince afterhsows. Anybody else agree?

Morning! Glad you enjoyed last night. Sorry I disappeared shortly after you arrived but I couldn't see a single thing where we were standing so me and JazzMeUp went down on the floor near the stage. As soon as the show was over we went back over to where my brother and LordMarcusMont were but you had gone already. We then queued for ages to get our jackets but you were nowhere to be seen. Looks like you shot off straight after the show so never had a chance to speak before or after really! Will be going to George Clinton so perhaps see you there then.

I must admit I was surprised at how packed it was in the Indigo2 last night. Not as packed as it was on the 21st Prince aftershow but definitely more people than some of the other Prince aftershows! Was a good atmosphere - a good friendly crowd and nobody was territorial with their space.

Domebaby69, I followed you to the lower section but stayed back from the front so I had a bit more room to (sort of !!) dance. Did you get a good view from where you were? I didn't need to queue up for anything as I just wore a t shirt. A quick walk back to the car made sure I didn't get too cold ! LOL!!
I'm going to check out Gerorge Clinton tickets tonight.

What a good night that was!

It was great to meet all of you lovely people and finally be able to put faces (and names) to the usernames. I had a good old boogie with DoMeBaby69 (much better with our shoes off wink). Maceo Parker certainly knows how to funk it up, everyone seemed to really enjoy themselves and that was for both the audience and the band, but most especially the trombone player who just couldn’t stop laughing! Btw, does anyone know where we can find a list of the band members? They were all incredible.

The “To Be or Not To Be… Funky” bit by Maceo was really cool, but that tweedy woman definitely wasn’t… confused

Now back to work

Wholeheartedly agree - a very surreal (not in a good way) moment!!!

It was a great show in a great venue, a really mixed crowd all getting along nice and friendly. Personally I thought the best bits were when the whole band was playing, and when the 2 backing singers did their solos, the sound was excellent. Maceo was a knock out on the sax, but I felt he didn't front up the show like a real star - you realise how incredible at their jobs those 'lead' guys like Prince (and others!) are in the way that they own the stage and you just can't take your eyes off them!

Still it was awe inspiring to hear him talk about gigs in 1972 before I was even born!!!! What a life that guy has had...

Oh yes and he did say he was sure Prince would be back here 'soon'...!!!
You might not like the taste but I'm still gonna stick your face in this FUNK

Something I forgot to tell people - the Indigo2 is a little different from the Prince aftershows. Firstly, there is a barrier up in front of the stage now - just below chest height (depending on how tall you are!) and about two foot away from the stage. Also there are two large plasma/lcd screens at the top of either side of the stage and cameras dotted around filming and reproducing the images onto the screens. Also the steps which led from the floor to the stage have gone. There is no access to the stage at all from the floor and the closest you're ever going to get to the stage itself is two foot away from it.

The barrier only goes in at the request of the promoter. Likewise the steps down into the audience at the Prince aftershows were put in at the artists request

The lcd screens and cameras are usually there and are only removed at the promoters/artists request

I'd say the place to be is on the floor. Depends what you like. If you just want to watch and listen, then sitting is probably the best option. However, we'll be on the floor again and I'd say that'll be the place to be.

If it is the case, that was a very nice thought of them or whoever had decided it during the Summer, as it definetely brought the entertainers and audience closer together, creating that memorable sense of unity. Whereas the barrier instantly took that away... But it didn't stop us from having a good time. smile

Just the Live in Vegas DVD.

Awesome song. So jealous we couldn't affords London again. 9 Prince shows took it out of us!

So wanted to see maceo the Master of Funk and George Clinton. Why is he not playing in Manchester like last time?????

Its weird as its usually only bands with fans who crowd surf and mosh that the barrier goes in for

I was surprised to see it in at the show
