why did prince have a dj at the marquee gig

he was ruining the songs! having a DJ in bands is so played. and the DJ wasnt even anything special, he was cool for a warm up but i was not trying to hear him scratch really dated snippets all the way through automatic, dolphin and the work. no particular disrespect to the dj on the night, but prince should have gotten rid DJs and scratching in his band a long time ago.

Why does this matter?
Wasn't the aftershow any good then?
You must have been to a different one to me because that was one of the best gigs I have ever seen !

I really enjoyed the aftershow, it was one of the high points out the three nights because I'd never been to one, and I was really hoping that Prince would do one in London.

But regarding the DJ, I have to say that the scratching was very good and went really well with the songs especially sign'O'times, it gave it a new sound.

I have to say that after the aftershow I thought to myself that some of that scratching would of done well on some of the songs in the main concert as I really enjoyed them, but maybe not as I thought the sound and feel of the music in the main concert was superb and something I will remember for a long time.

The DJ wasn't in the band, the DJ was just warming up the crowd and keep us entertained why they set up the bands gear.

Sorry Ian, you're incorrect there. He was part of the band at the marquee and was scratching during quote a few tracks.

I only noticed it during Sign o' the Times, with that 'Break it down' sample he was scratching. That was pretty cool.

i didnt say it ruined the whole show. it was still great. but... either im just picky but i think it would have been better without. you wouldnt see james brown, george clinton or any of them with a dj. when was the last time you saw bruce springsteen or bob dylan with someone scratching behind them?!?! its not an especially great move for legendary artists to be making. and if theyre gonna do it, there are a zillion better DJs out there - real turntablists (to call them by their real name -people like the xecutioners, q-bert, dj logic) who could do it better.

im a big fan of djing, just not in this context. turntablism is an art, i just dont think the dj on this night knew it. but hey, what do i know?!?!

Shit, I gotta get my eyes tested again biggrin That club was so smokey, my eyes were tired. No wonder I didn't see the DJ scratching smile
