Tribute bands?

Since we're facing the prospect of not seeing yer man over here again for a while, I was wondering if anyone can recommend any P tribute acts they may have seen in the UK?

TT.
All of my hang-ups have gone. How I wish you felt the same.

The best ever prince tribute band was an outfit from liverpool, "prince" was a guy called Tommy Hendry, he was as good as it gets, other than the guy himself! He had the vocal range, the look, the moves (even the mic kicks & splits-really!) the only thing he lacked was he didn't do instruments. That side of Prince was perfectly personafied by another Prince lookalike, Carlo Salvatore. The tribute was a full stage show, with all the usual suspects (Morris, The Time, Vanity 6, D&P, Mayte etc) interacted into a full 2hr stage show with a 12 piece band!!! It was held at the Royal Court, Liverpool for 2 nights in Aug '98. The band then went on to do various things in a condensed form, now disbanded sadly! Did any other orgers get to witness this, I'm not dreaming, honest???

Thanx 4 the plug! ;o)

We have a website under construction, but there's a link 2 my Myspace at the top.. www.princetribute.co.uk

We're only doing a couple more private shows for this year but filling up 2008 with gigs all over the UK. If you want info on any shows, I'll be updating them on the site, or email me on princetribute@hotmail.co.uk

Peace & love 2 y'all!

I BOOKED TO TAKE MY LITTLE GIRL TO BUTLINS THIS WEEKEND JUST GONE AS I HAD BEEN TO 3 PRINCE CONCERTS AND AFTERSHOWS AND FELT A BIT GUILTY AS SHE REALLY WANTED TO SEE PRINCE, SO BOOKED FOR THE MILKSHAKE SHOW PEPPER PIG FIFI FLOWERTOTS (KIDS STUFF) IT WAS ALSO MY BIRTHDAY SO WAS LOOKING FORWARD TO IT. WE ARRIVED FRIDAY AFTERNOON ME HUBBY AND LITTLE LAYLA, I WAS LOOKING THROUGH THE ENTERTAINMENT GUIDE AND OH MY GOD WHO IS ON TONIGHT FRI 28TH BUT PURPLE REIGN , MY HUSBAND SAID I THOUGHT IT WAS ALL OVER NOW HE COULDNT BELIVE IT , SO MY LITTLE GIRL GOT TO SEE PRINCE OR SO SHE THOUGHT . HE WAS VERY GOOD COULD DO WITH A DIFFERENT HAIR DO, BUT REALLY GOOD I THINK HE MAY HAVE THOUGHT I WAS A BIT MAD AS FOR MOST OF THE SHOW I WAS THE ONLY PERSON OTHER THAN THE RED COATS WHO WAS DANCING. THE RED COATS DID NOT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT PRINCE,ONE EVEN ASKED ME IF PRINCE WOULD WEAR HEELS. SO IF YOU CAN GET TO SEE HIM GO BECAUSE HE IS VERY GOOD I AM GOING TO LOOK UP TO SEE IF HE IS DOING ANYTHING IN LONDON SO I CAN GET A BIG GROUP OF FRIENDS TO GO AND SEE HIM .
JIMMI LOVE YOU ARE VERY VERY GOOD. !!!!!

A few years ago a couple of us went to a Prince night in some bar near Farringdon in London. There was a European tribute band playing that night. Just seemed a little sad really and we left before midnight! Wasn't helped by the fact it was winter, and there was no cloakroom so everyone was standing around holding on to their coats. Ah well. After seeing Prince nothing compares to him.

This my first ever post on the org, as I was a late joiner and had to wait.

Why don't we start our own band to jam and stuff? I'm not too bad on keyboards!

Anyone play anything/interested?

No probs mate.

I saw you guys at the Huntingdon comemoration hall earlier in the year. Not a big crowd unfortunately, the show made up for more than that - i really loved the guitar heavy version of "I feel for you" and its the only place you will hear "Sexy MF", it would actually be a good idea if we can see if the UK orgers can sort out a gig or at least attend one of the venues in mass

If you think they are good, you need to see and hear the US tribute band Purple Reign.Thet all are excellent musicians and singers. The leader Jason who is Prince, plays numerous instruments, sings, dances, acts like and looks like prince(even the cute ass and sexy body). This show is the best ever.If in Vegas check them out.Extensive info and live cuts, pictures on their sites, see and hear for yourself!! The best and only tribute band I have ever seen was in Las Vegas - The Purple Reign. Check out www.purplereign.net. They are absolutely brilliant. Jason the lead singer is the image of Prince - he not only looks like him but even has the same physique. Even his hands look like Prince's! The show is brilliant so if you're ever in Vegas, it's the 1 U Wanna C!

Ooops - apologies to mene1948 who had already given this information.

Question :

Do you have to have the original artist's permission to perform their songs at a live venue ?
