Opinions On When He Will Return

i'm sooooo gutted that this has come to an end for now, but when do we seriously think we will get to see him again.
i really cant believe that this is the last we'll see of him over here, surely something may evolve due to the fact he is 50 next year, and what better place to celebrate than here in the UK, with the orgers!
So come vibe with us.....Funk Bible...New Testament!

Look above you, somebody just told you - London. I hear Paris is a good place for celebs to get dead and buried though, so I'm sure your time will come wink

Look, I dont think its anything to do with him being 50! The fact is, did he look like he had had more than enough? NO OF COURSE NOT....rolleyes

At the last Aftershow party, they had to DRAG him off coz the venue HAD TO CLOSE or I swear, he would still be playing EVEN NOW as we speak. He is an
insomniac (?) when he is playing and as he says himself - 'he loves his guitar more than anything'. He is only just started.....

PLUS.....he has just gained a huge amount of NEW FANS.....he knows how much he has widened his fanbase, he has gained so much respect this Summer from so many new areas. He would be a fool to let that die without 'topping' it up again in the next year or so.

There is no doubt whatsoever, he WILL BE BACK. As to all his old hits, maybe
they get put on the back burner, but hey, bring on the new and even more brilliant..... I AM READY..... nutty

If he carries out his plan never to play 'the hits' I can;t see him playing a major tour again, the orger's would go, but most people at the O2 were there for the greatest hits, no promoter would touch him for a big venue/tour if he played just new stuff/planet earth.

What do you think the crowd's reaction at the O2 would have been if he would have played no music pre 2004 ?

He would then bring the venue down to a more intimate setting like Indigo (which is FINE BY ME!).
I seem to remember a gig he did at Hammersmith involved very few hits. Does anyone else remember this a few years ago? It was brilliant..

The thing is, he has so many songs to choose from that he cant possibly play them all in one concert which is why he did a few medleys - like them or not, at least people got to hear a few of their faves in one concert, however frustrating it may be. You had to attend more than one to hear some of your favourites.
You cant keep making new albums and only play the old songs/albums. You never get to play your new stuff! There is no doubt that he will shelve some old stuff, BUT I cant see him NEVER playing Purple Rain or 1999 ever again. They will always pop up because they are some of his favourites.

To be honest, his new fan base are young and only know the last few albums anyway so they would be exstatic to hear these songs at the next gig and the Orgers, well, we would just be exstatic whatever...

didnt know that....so thats not gonna happen then!
as regards to him never playing the hits again, would we really care?
i,for one, would love to see a gig full of hardly played album tracks and some rarer tunes. we all know it would still be one hell of a nite without the likes of purple rain and 1999!

Its not a case of whether the orgers care if he plays the hits again or not, its a case that if he doesn't play the hits, he wouldn't sell the amount of tickets he did for the O2 21 nights.

I would love to see a B side tour, but that would only sell to the hardcore prince fans like the orgers, the general public who buy 90% of concert tickets want the hits, so any promoter is not going to back a tour without the hits, so it depends what Prince wants to do ...

I agree, it's not the end..maybe he's just bored of purple rain ....i would be after singing the same tune for 20 odd years maybe he just popped the old hits all to bed and now it's time for something new!

It costs allot of money to put on a show like the O2, he wouldn't have a chance to sell it out if he wasn't doing the hits and that was common knowledge when tickets went on sale.

At the end of the day, from the interviews i've seen with Prince, he comes over as a fairly shrewd person, who's interested in money and making his share of it, all the stuff with Warners was more about him getting a better cut of the income than it was about his 'freedom', thats why he embraced the internet to sell his product direct to his fans, so i can't see him doing a tour when he know's he won't make the £millions he could.

Idont think so, he looks so involved and evolves the arrangements anyhow. He really seems to love the crowds reaction to teasing them with little samples of old skool, as for playing the intro to nicki at the last show, his grin was from ear to ear an the way he said ' i cant play that!!!' witha big smile on his face.

he loves it hes a showman who loves crowd participation.

the aftershows show that

how many truly famous people would want fans on the stage with them dancing in the way etc or ACTUALLY touching them!! only someone who loves being close to his fans and the old music is the connection with his original fans, its memories for both sides. i think he just loves to be around people who are totally into the funk and that makes him feel good havin so many people to party with. the paisley park parties are a good example. I dont think he sees fans as us and them ie hes to be worshipped and we are mere mortals, i think he has great respect for other true artists and that expands to his fan base being involved in the music and the way it makes you feel. so many other musicians put up massive barriers between themselves and their fans, quite literally - prince doesnt seem scared of actual physical contact.

sorry now i sound like a starcrazed stalker!! lol lol

its fantastic he has so many young fans but then the music is genius so its timeless. we all are suckers for golden oldies! but the new music is fab too, i love it all, long may he reign!!

Hes got to do Glastonbury one year(if he does hope I get one of those tickets... its a nightmare getting them) as James Brown did it(I saw him) so come on Prince, it would be amazing in a field watching Prince play the Pyramid stage on the last night with fireworks at the end smile

Sorry to say, but Glastonbury is SO not Prince, I really believe he prefers more intimate settings. He feels for his fans and likes to know they are in the same groove as him, which is why he always lets some come up on stage with him, he really loves that.

Well said but I think he doesn't like physical contact from fans because he does avoid that. What he DOES like is fans involving themselves in his party.
He is such a party person and just laps up his fans funking along to his playing. It gives him a thrill.
At last AShow I stood very close to him and when he played blues guitar, I always closed my eyes in sheer ecstacy. I cant tell you the amount of times I caught him watching me do this and lapping it up, smiling.

What I will mention (and dont hate me) is that he does love his ego rubbed with all that Whats my Name and I am so great, too cool with more hits than anyone else stuff.
If I didn't love him to complete pieces I would say he was so egotistical.

HOWEVER he IS a genius so I guess he has every right!

Me neither - its so huge and impersonal for Prince and I couldn't bear to hear anything adverse from non fans.... call me old fashioned....
