So all you suckers who think Prince is a member of his own ORG with a handle.....stop this stupid thread.... Planet Earth AND Planet Eanth are having a right laugh at your expense. It wouldn't surprise me at all if Prince viewed forums etc, computer technology became integral to making music in the 80's when prince was breaking through and experimenting, there's even a scene in Graffiti Bridge where Prince is using an Atari ST !!! I wrote a demo for a computer game on the Atari ST based around Prince and his music, a sideways scrolling adventure like 'Ghosts & Goblins' but you shot symbols out from a guitar !!! I sent it to Paisley park and got a call from Alan Leeds, and they were interested in what i'd done, I worked for Ocean software at the time and the licensing was gonna be complicated !!! but Alan said Prince liked it, I later went to Minneapolis and got a tour of paisley park from Alan and he quizzed me on computer technology, this was in 1991. I remember standing in Prince's recording studio and tinkering on the piano, with a rack of 5 guitars next to it and hearing drums from the studio next door, Alan said he was recording, which was pretty cool. Prince more than any other 'major' artist has used the internet for promoting/selling his 'product' as he see's it, he did the interactive CD-Rom disk in the early 90's, before CD-Rom's were standard on PC's, that was fairly unique at the time, I think Peter Gabriel went on to do something similar, but it shows Prince's interest in computer technology and utilising it for himself. Saying that, I don't think Planetearth is Prince, if Prince was here we would not know it, he'd either just read the threads out of interest, or post the occassional comment in response, but he wouldn't want to post cryptic messages that make people think it maybe him, he'd want to be incognito I bet. The stories go that he often watches live performances during his tour to improve the show/performance, so what better way to find out what people are thinking/expecting/disappointed by during a tour than read a few fan forums? [Edited 10/1/07 13:23pm] WOW WOW, so calmly written. Were you actually invited personally to visit Paisley Park? Shame you never actually got to meet the guy. What an amazing story you have. I think you are correct when you say he MAY read the odd note but with so many threads/topics/headings - it takes a while to find anything of any use. But I tend to agree, I understand he scrutinizes his live shows to look for possible improvement. Thanks for your input - thats amazing.

Maybe he just reads the posts? wlcm2thdwn - I'm curious, how could you know so definitely Prince does not post here/other forums? you'd have to be linked very close to him to know exactly what he does/does not do? As I said, if he did post here, it would be in a way none of us would suspect it would be him, so your response is exactly one I would expect if he posted here or not, I just think it's possible looking at his track record of computer use/interest in the web etc.

As for band members knowing what he gets up to, I believe he maintains a certain distance, even from them. I find it brightens up my dull day to think it might be him but as some old geezer called Socrates once retorted 'One thing only I know, and that is that I know nothing." Hmmmm...

But I tend to agree, I understand he scrutinizes his live shows to look for possible improvement. Thanks for your input - thats amazing. I sent the game demo to Paisley Park in 1990 and got a call from Alan Leeds a few weeks later, we chatted about my computer games and Prince's image rights etc, I worked for Ocean at the time and they weren't too interested in a music tie in, they'd been stung by the 'Frankie goe's to Hollywood' game a few years earlier, so it never progressed. I was obviously a Prince fan and Alan said if I was ever in Minneapolis to give him a call and we could meet up. I went to Minneapolis in 1991 with the Controversy fan club, I rang Alan while I was out there and he invited me over to Paisley Park. Was awesome to go in there and tour the building, Alan was really cool, showing me the recording studio, the arcade where bands could play games etc. I managed a band at the time also, they were signed to Chrysalis and released a CD single, so I played him that and we discussed the studio and recording there if the band took off. We also chatted about computers and how Prince always like to try the new recording gadgets etc, I basically gave him my view of how technology/multi media was going to take off, I'd done abit of work in networking and games, so I had a pretty good view of where the computer industry was going. Alan then gave me some VIP tickets to Glam Slam, so I went there at the night with my friend who came to Paisley Park (she was mouth open all the way round as she was a big Prince fan, I got her there by saying she was my assistant!!!), was a cool trip, I also got a cool brochure for Paisley Park, like a glossy sales brochure, shows the layout of the studios, facilities etc, they were really trying to sell Paisley Park at the time and make it self sufficient, I think REM had just recorded there at the time. The coolest thing that stuck in my mind was seeing the Purple Rain Oscar in the glass cabinet in reception, very unreal !!!

My experience of speaking to band members is that they are very much 'employed' by Prince, its a business relationship and there at his beck and call. My friend became friends with Tommy Barbarella and he said the band are all in awe of him and are paid an annual salary (not a large one either) to perform in the band, but its very much him and them. I think the last band to truly work directly with Prince was the Revolution, as they were with him pre 'superstar' so had more input and power, hense an album like around the world in a day, where Wendy & Lisa's input stands out so much.
