NPG CLUB IN LONDON????? AND PRINCE PREDICTIONS!!!

[color=indigo]
AT THE 20TH AFTERSHOW IM SURE I HEARD MIKE PHILLIPS SAYING SOMETHING ABOUT THE NPG IN LONDON AND INVOLVING ALL THE BRITISH TALENT HERE. I THOUGHT HE IMPLIED THAT THEY ARE SETTING SOMETHING UP HERE. LIKE A CLUB OF SOME SORT. IT WAS DURING THE AWESOME PERFORMANCE OF THE BEAT BOXERS WITH BACKING FROM BRITISH FUNK JAM OUTFIT. ANY ONE LIKE TO SHED SOME LIGHT ON THIS!??

I PREDICT PRINCE IS PLANNING TO LEAVE A BIG MARK ON THE MUSIC SCENE HERE IN UK. I BELEIVE HE WILL TAKE A MORE MENTOR ROLE AND ENJOY MORE JAMMING HIMSELF AS HE HAS JUST HAD A NICE WINDFALL OF CASH TO KEEP HIM GOING. HE'S AFTER A MUSIC REVOLUTION METHINKS! THE EMANCIPATION WILL NOT BE TELEVISED!

NEW POWER SOULS!!

someone has just taken up the lease on the place in the last few months... i think they're turning it into a bar

Thing is though...there was a time capsule put in the basement...i'm kind of curious if it's still there

If I remember correctly, Prince burried a time capsule in the concrete floor when he opened the shop. I wonder if it's still there & what was in it?

I used to go there nearly every weekend, cost me a bomb to get there aswell. I travelled in from outside of London. Wasn't much to look at to be honest, and the CD's they had on show weren't the collectable ones. I just remember going downstairs into the fragrance area and getting blown away by the smell of the incense and all that. It was tiny and I remember it having something upstairs, think it was a coffee bar or something.

It was good to walk from the underground upto it, cause you passed Camden market, and the lock...shame it's gone. sad
Today was Tomorrow and Yesterday was Today...so what time is it now ??

i was gutted to find in 1997 that the person who bought all the fittings in the shop and the great soundsystem at auction got EVERYTHING for less than £5,000 pounds..

included in "everything" were a load of custom made symbol chairs/bar stools that would probably fetch that each now on ebay..

It was bought by the guy who used to own vinyl experience in hanway st, london. I have no idea who owns it now sadly.

Controver5y

Yeah it was definitely 1994 - I rememeber going there to buy Come when it came out.

The best thing about the shop were the video's they always had playing. It was usually stuff that was not out on general release. I remember seeing Endorphinemachine played there and thinking it reminded me of Interactive. It was also the only time I ever saw the GoldNigga cd on sale.

I miss that shop... and the cds I used to buy in the market too confused

upstairs was an ice cream parlour.. Ben and Jerrys was "P" and Maytes fav .. so it had lots to chose from..
sat up there many times playing "interactive" on the instore pc and watched "P" drive past with out coming in..he used to drive Marie (shop manager) mad when he did that..
I still have two large mirrors . too many candle holders . symbol matchbooks and lots of Purple glass ware / symbol goblets and a pack of gold symbol playing cards in my living room ! and empty get wild bottles all over the place ... spent a fortune in that place.

ahh yes i was having this debate with someone after the last show, as i was dropping the off at camden...

The day that opened i recall that was another mad sleepless night.... i'd been clubbing till 6.30am with my then boyfriend, both prince mad and went straight from breakfast at Harrys all night cafe, off regent street (thats no longer the either)
and as the blazing sun revealed itself we stood for three hours waiting for 12pm ( it think it was 12 pm or 11 am when the ribbon was cut, some 1 help?)

we were directly under the balcony where prince and mayte appeared like royalty.... well our royalty....
it was a wondrful time.
i was a poor student, so all i bought was a black mug, which i still have and a rugby shirt on a later date, which i used to sleep in!!
but i always wanted some jewelry.....

Ido hope the time capsule is still intact!!!!

if there was an NPG club.... i'm there.
mayb he should buy out pizza in the park wink patrick bateman

or the old ronny scotts?

I remember a day trip to this shop. I think had the Purple Rain Burger. Had lots of old outfits on show.

Bought Candles, The gold symbol (dropped and smashed by someone when I moved house 10 years ago! I forgive you now Mum!) and a small mirror with (TMBGITW inscribed on it) for my Girlfriend at the time - If you are reading this please send it me back!

Loved the shop. Wish it was still open!

I visited the shop with my husband the week we were married... in those days people didn't always spend thousands on a honeymoon!! I wish now I had bought the CD-rom that was available... more or less the only thing I don't have!! Did have a go on it though in the shop!

NPG Camden Store..
Opened at Midday Saturday 30th April 1994... I just found some receipts from that day too ( is that sad or what ?? lol)

The Time capsule was in the basement.. in between the two lower rooms . it had a circular glass floor to look in to it.( but I can't remember what was in it.!)

I made enquiries recently at the premises but no one had ever been to the lower floor.. so I have no idea if it is even still there ( kinda defeats the whole reason to put one there doesn't it !!)

I always thought the shop was a bit rubbish and more of a curiosity than anything else. There was alway much more interesting Prince stuff to be found on some of the market stalls in Camden. wink
RIP sad
