Calm down people. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I don't think it was right to barge into this forum with a complete slagging off of an artist who we know P admires, but this person has an opinion to which they are entitled - and this is mine - take it or leave it I don't care.

I have to say that although I think AW is a very talented songwriter and of course we have admire that, I have yet to see a live performance from her where I could say she blew me away. There is something very Janis Joplin about her - talented, but also totally self-destructive, which is very sad.

It would be great if she could get her personal life sorted out and get back on track, but the sad thing is, from what she writes about, she needs the disorder and chaos for inspiration.

As ever, I love and admire P for his supportiveness of other artists and I see absolutely where he's coming from - Kudos to him!

I've actually never heard of her before Prince mentioned her in that press conference which got me curious so did a search of her and I listened to some of her songs. She really does have a good voice and on one of the videos for that song that Prince liked, she put so much emotion into the song...she is good! I liked her other songs too, except for "Rehab".

About her personal life, she does seem to be a mess but nobody is perfect!

I remember something that Gwen Stefani said about Prince being an inspiration to them when he jammed with them...I'm sure he'll probably be an inspiration to her as well. I'm sure she's flattered that he recognized her talent and hopefully she'll be encouraged by his gesture that he extended his support to her. I hope she can get through the rough patches in her life, and her career can take off with that talent!

oh, good lord.
how is she "an embarrassment to the british music scene"?

i mean, for christ's sake stay out of the tabloids.
if you knew NOTHING about her personal life,
and all you had was the music,
she's been the MOST INTERESTING THING to come out of U.K. music scene in the last few years.

obviously, musicians don't feel the same way because she's MAD talented (which is why Prince involved her in the first place).

there's PLENTY other train wrecks in the UK music scene that are "embarrassing". coughpetedohertycough

so, what like Lindsay Lohan is "an embarrassment to the American Film scene"?
is Paris Hilton an "embarrassment to the heiress scene"?
and i guess Britney Spears is our Amy Winehouse?

PLEASE stop with this bullshit.
you read some crap online or in the papers and you think you are qualified to speak about someone's life WHEN YOU'RE NOT LIVING IT.

the girl's talented.
PERIOD.

eek

so i guess billie holiday sucked cuz all she did was sing.
ditto with nina simone.

look prince fans, this "how many instruments can they play", "do they produce", crap of comparing everything to prince's "i can do it all" mentality, is just that.

crap.

and for the record, i believe Amy does play guitar.

it's one of those things.
if you can't hear it when you listen to her,
then i can't explain it to you.

suffice it to say, there's a reason why so many are on the Amy bandwagon.
Prince included.

Amy also writes and sings from heart and soul unlike many in the industry today who just want to have fame and lip sink. Amy is a rare talent and true artist thank God prince and others recognise this and wish her well and every success I’m one that hopes Amy keeps sharing her talent for many years to come.

I don't agree with the thread starter in the slightest, but can't believe some of the OTT bile he's been faced with for stating a valid opinion.

Jesus, can anyone not understand where the original poster might have been coming from, whether you agree with him or not? Winehouse has a history of failed shows, slagging other artists, unpredictable behaviour... she's a self-abuser and a junkie. There may be at least a part truth to his suggestion that Prince felt sorry for her, even if he also greatly admires her as an artist, and thought he could give her some kinda boost.

But their 4 minutes on stage together was absolutely exquisite. I've got 3.45 mins of it (from the second verse - the start of it was performed from behind the curtain) on video, and have been playing it on a loop all day (just for the audio) - it sounds much better in this NPG arrangement than it does on her album. I almost got chucked out for doing it, but that's another story.

I personally think that Amy has a fantastic voice, and has a great ability to write songs from the heart.

I have to admit that she does seem to have a self distruct button at the moment, but that should never overshadow what a great talent she has. My only hope is that she can carry on doing the music she does, but perhaps with a clear head smile

im allowed my opinion, thats what forums are about,,freedom to express ones
views..she has little respect for her fans, letting them down many a time..even her family and relative openly criticise her,,and i have listened to her nusic, its average..
and i would never turn on prince im one of his biggest fans,,,but i will always rreserve the right to express my feelings or opinions and i will always take constructive criticism.....we dont all have to like or feel the same way about things...ive seen what drug adiction does to people and people like amy and doherty send a message to the young and impresstionable youth that drugs are cool.....sorry if ive offended anyone ...but thats my feelings

Her voice is contrived. She doesn't exhibit the timing of a good jazz singer. And she certainly doesn't have the soul that we all saw on Friday night from the likes of Beverly and Shelby. Not my cup of tea.

As far as what the UK is turning out at the moment, she is exceptional.
But the school of thought that says "her personal life should not be a reflection of her artistry" is not a valid one. I personally NEVER read any newspapers and rarely watch the television, so am not affected at all by tabloid rumour. Having said that, her per4mance of late has suffered greatly with her deteriorating personal life.

2 b honest, I hold a degree of contempt 4 any artist who decides 2 compromise their gift, especially those who have been blessed with the opportunity 2 share their gift with a mass audience.

She has the potential 2 b a fantastic artist with real longevity, & Prince is not wrong 4 seeing the magic within her. But at this rate, she will just become a sad "has-been" who threw away her gift & contributed 2 the rich tapestry of celebrated/intoxicated stars who spawned a generation of intoxicated followers.
A true artist who apreciates their gift (like Prince) does not allow personal trauma 2 infringe upon their artistic output. Even times of REAL trauma (not just a cheating husband) such as losing your only child did not affect his creativity and composure as a proffessional musician.

I wish Amy all the best & hope she can find it within herself 2 pull through & make a success of her failings.
Her appearance at the aftershow was special and memorable.
