What I found just as shocking as the throwing of glow sticks was that the 02 appeared to do NOTHING about it. Get your phone out and they're on you like a ton of bricks but idiots throw glow sticks and there isn't an 02 official in sight. Not even an announcement over the tannoy to tell them to stop it.

Yes I was waiting for an announcement too .
"Please do not take any photos of Prince during the show, but feel free to throw objects at him"
Fucking ridiculous!

realistically an announcement over the tannoy would've just encouraged them... and to be fair to the security staff it was close to impossible to spot where they were coming from...

some crowd vigilante justice was in order i think

For weeks I was trying to get hod of two tickets for the final concert, ordered my glowsticks as well. Sadly luck didn't come my way. Now I find out about all those morons, what a waste, me and my best friend could of had those seats, enjoyed ourselves and managed to keep hold of our sticks.

No wonder they made everyone put them in a big bin before the aftershow.

If the idea had been left to the org members perhaps this would not have happened, proves Prince reads the site and joined in with the theme!

personally, i never want to feel proud or ashamed of anything my country does or doesn't do. nationalism is the last refuge of the scoundrel etc and the reverse is similar too. i was born in england but so what? i barely consider myself 'english'. it's just a patch of land.

let's get off this subject.

yeah, england has got a lot of stupid meatheaded publads who drink a lot. and in other countries...they simply have different accents. let he whose country is without sin cast the first...glowstick. hehe

you really would think that the whole of the upper tier was launched anti tank missiles at prince's head the way this thread is going.

I heard that at one point Prince was hit directly by about two dozen glowsticks
(including a peach and black one) and that during the aftershow Marva spent the whole time picking them out of her fab afro. Please tell me it's not true!!!

It's staggering what some people do to compensate for not having a personality.

I was in D2 - so close by the stage - and there were three women on the row in front of me. One of them threw their glowstick at the stage as Prince came down the walkway. I couldn't believe it.

She then egged one of her dopey sidekicks to follow suit, and as her friend cocked her arm back to throw her stick, I took it out of her hand. She turned around and had a go at me. I'm not proud of snatching something out of a grown woman's hand, but I wasn't going to stand there whilst this feckless idiot threw a plastic stick at the stage.

She did manage to find another to throw at the back of my head as she left. Classy.

But aside from the stupids...what a fantastic show!!!

clapping Kudos to you for taking the glowstick out of that woman's hand, I commend you for doing that. I can't believe she then found another glowstick to throw at you later. Some people have absolutely no class whatsoever. disbelief
RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

I laughed so much when I saw they were handing glowsticks to everyone on the way in!

Left to the org the throwing wouldn't have happened, because we saw it coming... if you read the website we built, you'd know we were doing what we could to avoid them ending up in the hands of idiots. But we obviously wouldn't have achieved the blanket coverage that they managed last night.

It would have been so cool to see our sticks light up suddenly mid-show. We got rid of all 600 sticks that we bought (thanks O2Review, Glyn, guvnorx07 and TheCherryRoom for helping distribute them), and at least another 200 that people brought independently.

But seeing everyone in the audience with a glow stick gave the arena a party atmosphere fron the off. I lit mine up in PR anyway... If you did too, I saw you - the freshly-cracked ones were much brighter than all the rest.

For some people in the upper tiers, I guess throwing them was just too tempting... like throwing stones off a cliff. Maybe P thought the effect was worth the risk of the things being thrown. I didn't see any hit him, but I did see one bounce off the right hand side of his keyboard during the encore. eek

We also suggested NOT taking them in to the aftershow... which does make you think that someone involved read our website. For safety's sake, I'm pretty sure they would have made us dump them in that bin even if no-one had thrown them at the main show.

Credit Glyn for the idea. I'm just the fool that ran with it!

Sorry I didn't find you, but we were eating in Las Iguanas when they announced the show was starting at 8:20. Rushed to finish, get the bill etc, and still only made it to our seats just as he came on stage.

Great Britain( Grande Betagne) is so called because it's not Britainny ( Bretagne in French)...the "Great" bit is nothing to do with the Brits thinking they're "great".....

129 England fans banned from quarter-final city
By Nick Allen and Tim Moynihan, PA, in Germany
Published: 26 June 2006

A total of 129 England fans have been banned from following the team to Gelsenkirchen for their quarter-final against Portugal on Saturday, German police said today.

The supporters, who were among 500 detained in Stuttgart over the weekend, will be barred from Gelsenkirchen between today and 9 July, the date of the World Cup final.

The Great part comes from the French " Grande Bretagne" as opposed to "Bretagne" ( Brittainy in France).....nothing to do with the Brits thinking they're "great".....

I couldn't give a flying one how many England supporters were banned at the last tournament, the fact is Hooliganism is dwindling in this country compared to Germany, Poland and Russia to name a few.

Of course talking about England fans has no bearing on what happened at the O2 last night , which makes your rant a bigger crock of cack than at first appeared

wheres the love you guys? this thread is starting to feel like an angry housequake male dominated agressive thread!!!

Which why I dont go there too often!

I laughed when I saw the glostix being handed out having just got the last couple off of o2review only a few feet away!!!!

The effect was fantastic and made the final show superb, I think it all started with a few being DROPPED from the upper tiers but then others caught on and started lobbing them about. It was very dodgy for a few minutes on the floor as they were pelting down all over. I was lucky I had my husband to fend them off but it was a bit nerve racking for a while and I was amazed the twin came back out sitting on the box. Maybe they thought this would calm everyone down.

In all a fantastic show and even better afterparty!!!

dont get angry and viscious about this one small thing, Its a big venue and people get over excited. And for the record i was surrounded by Europeans not brits!

I was there last night, and was disgusted at the first throw, let alone the rest of the sheep.

However, lets not get this out of context. Maybe 50-100 were thrown out of 20,000. Idiots, yes... but statistically in an audience that size there will also be 100-200 people who would clinically be called a psychopath too! 1 out of 20,000 people decided to throw a glowstick at Prince - still today I cant see what they were trying to achieve - I think if Prince stood up and walked off for his own safety I don't think the thrower would have left alive!!!

What I am saying is it was a huge minority of the people there, and I think it would have happened the same in most places around the world for the reason above. There will always be 1% of idiots wherever you go.

Example: We were in the second row of the aftershow balcony last night and had a great time apart from the 2 drunken idiots who must have gone for a wee/drink 10-15 times during the show, falling on top of us each time. They were hammered by the time they got there and just kept drinking. One of them got thrown out as he was seen falling down the stairs and the other guy actually was slumped over asleep for the majority of the rest of the concert!!!

When you think there was so much demand for tix they were being sold at £500 on ebay... what an astonishing waste!
