What I found just as shocking as the throwing of glow sticks was that the 02 appeared to do NOTHING about it. Get your phone out and they're on you like a ton of bricks but idiots throw glow sticks and there isn't an 02 official in sight. Not even an announcement over the tannoy to tell them to stop it.

Yeah I found that odd... looked about and saw no one and thought maybe while he was off stage they'd be an annoucement...

Glad you had the guts to take it off her! I just don't understand people like that a total bunch of twats. When people started throwing their glowsticks and continued doing so for a good 10mins I was starting to get worried Prince would not come back on. I also saw the glowstick that hit Prince and fall by his chair when he was on the keyboard. Security should have escorted them out.

She then egged one of her dopey sidekicks to follow suit, and as her friend cocked her arm back to throw her stick, I took it out of her hand. She turned around and had a go at me. I'm not proud of snatching something out of a grown woman's hand, but I wasn't going to stand there whilst this feckless idiot threw a plastic stick at the stage.

She did manage to find another to throw at the back of my head as she left. Classy.

But aside from the stupids...what a fantastic show!!!

if there was a point to be made in this thread...i can't help but feel it's been lost in all the venom. it's gotten pretty unedifying don't you think? calm down calm down calm down smile

a few things -

* just to be clear...the glowstick hit prince's chair. unforgiveable...but see how chinese whispers can start in the first part of this thread? prince is, amongst all the other things, a very philosophical professional. he won't be crying today about it...

* the glowstick throwing, whilst irresponsible was more 'hi jinks' rather than a desire to mutilate people i think smile and, aesthetically it still did look kinda beautiful as they flew down...sorry sorry...i'm totally against it..but it was kinda pretty smile i'd like to think that if they'd been even slightly heavier (they're very light - i've got one here infront of me) that people would have thought twice before lobbing them

* throwing glowsticks...or racism? which is worse? hmmm.... think prince would be pleased to see countrymen attacking different countrymen on here? go and live in paisley park? that would be sweet...but then you'd be living in the country that gave us the nucleur slaughter of hiroshima...guantanamo bay...agent orange...etc etc etc get my point? it's not good to generalise or characterise an entire nation. i'm a 'brit' and i'm a very very dear lovely sweet young boy smile

* the 'council flat' line was, i think, the most offensive thing on this thread. let's declare war on the poor whilst we're at it? sorry, i find that kind of class sneering really despicable. think about it.

* sure there are assholes in the crowd, i've done 8 main shows and 7 aftershows and i've got a fair few stories about no necked pub-lads spoiling things momentarily, heck, i spend a great portion of every day talking myself out of misanthropic impulses...but...two wrongs don't make a right. let's move on smile

the tour has been a completely fucking glorious success. don't let handfuls of nobheads detract from that. don't throw the goodtimes baby out with the badtimes bathwater...

like the man says...come together, yeah?

big love

Some people use threads like this for a bit of 'Brit Bashing ', if it is true that Drezone is English as well , then shame on him

We all realize that whoever threw the glowsticks was wrong and could have caused injury, but to Blame 'The Brits' is just shocking

People get real will ya.

I would say it's fair enough to say English/British culture is known for drunkenss. Over here it seems in order to loosen up the repression you need to have a more than a few pints.

It's not all like of course.

But when I see PC crap for the sake of it, only got two words.

I was born here, but am of Indain origin so maybe my perspective can be a bit more objective.

With regards to the security at O2, I am not really to sure what they could have done to stop it. It was too dark for them to see who it was who was throwing them, and there were too few of them compared to how many people they had to watch. I think that the only thing that they could have done was to make an announcement on the speakers.

Yes, that it what they SHOULD have done. But they didn't. It was scary. The woman two seats away from me had her bag on top of her head because she was clearly scared of getting hit.

Nah really it was scary. The sticks were about 5 inches long and solid rigid plastic. They were flying like missiles all over the place. Seriously it wasn't fun.

Just a though.... but I couldn't help but think that a lot of it stems from the fact that we live in a generation of festival goers.

Not saying that there is anything wrong with festivals... I've attended a couple myself. But people's approach does seem to be diferent.

What you think??

I do not think that that has anything to do with this behaviour. The people drinking were probably city types, just out for a good nite. They don't love or appreciate Prince's music. But the accessibility of tickets meant they could attend. Not sure how I feel about just `anyone' being able to go to these concerts. But that is what Prince wanted. I think they should've have been more expensive, nut not sure if that would've worked, as it's the people who ahve money to burn that end up buying lots of tix for their mates etc. The atmosphere at festivals is different, so it the audience. Mnay apreciate great live music. I went to V festival this year, an awesome experience, No aggro, and yes lots of young guys buying beer, crates of them in fact. It's a different vibe, but special too. Hey Prince should play V next year!!!

My lil comment was amusingly pointing to the folks who are offended by that "council estate" and "brit" remark...lol

Don't lower yourself to prejudice over this. I know it is sad, I don't understand, I thought only Prince fans went to Prince concerts but we have to let go of anger no?

Point taken. FYI peeps, yes I am a Brit too!
Just that as a performer myself, I have seen some hostile sights in my time and they are usually from those that I have stated earlier so if I struck a nerve with anyone, I won't apologise, but yes I am shocked!

Oh right! Sorry for misunderstanding!

I'm not sure that people can fairly generalise as to who may be have been responsible for the glow stick throwing. It was just a thoughtless and stupid thing to do, irrespective of class or colour. Just plain stupid. And you get stupid people from all walks of life.

May i lovingly suggest that you all focus on the good things, nay, the AMAZING things that happened last night.. and let the memory of the glowstick throwers go?

I know it was scary at times, focusing on what was really the only thing that went wrong will only steal from you the amazing feelings that were evoked by being there...

Polish up your memories now!

Prince played on regardless.

the people who threw them pay the price of going through life being the kind of person who would throw glow sticks. Let them pay. wish them well, and don't sully yourselves by thinking of them any more...

just a suggestion.. xxx

hahaha nice

good point though - i was pissed off last night cos i felt, and still feel, that the show would've been longer and we'd've been treated to a few more tunes. I'm sure the aftershow would've cured it had I managed to get tickets confused

if only P was a better thrower cos he actually meant to throw his hat to me - but missed me by a block

whats up with the British audience??? No soul to flow and be chilled out??
Its disgusting and upsetting to read this thread now, but hey we saw the behaviour in many of the shows in August, drunks and running to the bar during solo cuts..this glow stick throwing at prince draws the f'king line..

did prince react?

Guys chill out a bit about 'Brits' will you. 90% of the tickets for this residencey probably went to British people (I am one myself) and most of them didn't throw anything, or run to the bar during the piano sets. Alot of them sat there in awe of what they were seeing, having waited for it for a big part of their lives.

There are idiots everywhere - and in a lot of countries you couldn't even bring this many people together without having serious problems.

Singling out 'Brits' in general as being the problem is xenophobic and unfair - call the individuals responsible wankers - tht way they are grouped correctly whatever their nationality.

i was in the upper tier...and think i might have witnessed the first one. it was quite eye catching...thought it looked pretty cool but then i thought 'oops, that's going to hit someone'

20 seconds later everyone got in on the action. at least a hundred or so got in on the act. like i said, i think the intentions were relatively harmless...but...well, yeah.

mad I cant believe what i just read.....

Whats with the throwing?....First off was bad enough allowing drink into arena itself. That crap should have been sorted out before, you want a drink?.Go to the pub before. As for this its abysmal,Final night and this happens.
What will prince remember? The nights of greatness or the nights of fools.
But in england its actually a pretty normal occurance when certain people get drunk,to be arrogant rude and destructive. It wasnt so long ago that their fans were banned from europe. It sticks in the throat that this happened..but from a country that calls there self "great britain" ..what more can u xpect.
I Hope prince can remember the decent people that attended, its just insulting to him and the band that this happened. If you were doing your job what would happend if people were throwing things at you?
To all the degenerates who threw them..shame on you ...
This will go a long way to killing any chance of a dvd of the concerts cheers mad
