manchester 8th - highlights

I'm not one for writing down the setlist and there was too many to get in the correct order so I won't even try but here's my highlights;

* Prince's vocals were amazing - falsetto was better than ever, even the screaming during the "beautiful ones" climax was spot on.

* Prince's joking and humour with audience especially during the dance contest.

* Performance of several unexpected classics -
money don't matter
pop life
sign of the times
strollin
the ladder
gotta a broken heart
purple music! (I think!)

* Performance of the TRC tracks was excellent:
rainbow children
muse 2 the phoroah
the work (this is probably my least favourite track on the album and even the Jay Leno performance of this was unimpressive
- but last night it was excellent - NOT sung in falsetto.)
mellow
1+1+1=3
everlasting now (superb)

* Prince's speeches about the media before "strange relationship" and about racism/getting along during "the ladder" - he seemed genuine and humourous - not too over the top

Couple of small bad points (these no way dampened the show but worth mentioning):

* no piano or acoustic performance

* Getting a load of people on stage during "alphabet street" and letting them stay there for what seemed like an eternity so while Prince was sitting at the keyboard jamming to "purple music" no-one could see him for all the fuckers on stage.

* Slightly early finish - most people seemed to think it'd finish about 11 but it ended about 10.30

but once again these did not spoil anything - the audience loved it even the TRC tracks that not everyone was familiar with went down well.

Your'e quite right, although I was one of those people (I was dressed in red) and I thought they (we) 'crowded' him a bit, sorryif we spoilt you're veiw, it was such a buzz, but do I sense an bit of envy

col,

no envy here - if anyone really wanted to get on stage they could have even from near the back people were running down and getting up

I'm sure it was a buzz being on stage and the dance contest was funny - that was no problem

but getting a shit load of people up for about the 3rd time and letting them stay there for ages was a bit tedious and you couldn't see him at all - this seemed to spoil the flow a bit for the rest of the audience

no offence to anyone on the stage - it was up to Prince to throw you off!!

I think he means All the Critics love U in London. That was the encore on the 8th where everyone was allowed on stage
.

Essence

As this show was the only of the UK set I attended and after being spoilt with previous ONA reports and bootlegs I must admit that great as the show was I felt let down when it ended before 10.30pm without Family Name or a piano segment (Adore, HCUDCMA etc).
