how about this for opener or has he already done it - just think it would be really funky opener - probably take the roof off (i haven't even got a ticket yet and i still think i'm going)

I was thinking about starting this exact same thread earlier...

It's a phenomenal tune in its own right but just imagine the energy and atmosphere if he opened with it - even the seated fools who are only there cos their uncle is the director of masturbatory lameness at EMI Records (or similar crap) would be bopping and it would set everything up perfectly for a massive show.

I can't think of a better opener and refuse to believe anything could beat it

I was listening to the symbol album yesterday and thought the very same thing as soon as the song came on!! I think it would be fantastic to hear the music start and then hear Prince shouting "My name is Prince, and I am funky..." before he even appears on the stage! People would go absolutely bonkers if he did that..

I was about to completely agree with this thread but then I imagined it as a closer and got goosebumps.

As much as Tony M's comeback is a cause close to my heart, I don't think Prince will ever play 'My Name is Prince' again.

It was definitely of it's time when it came out, but that time has long passed. Because the song was tongue in cheek, it doesn't seem appropriate for the reasons I sure you all want it sung.

i definitely think large chunks of the symbol album and also diamonds and pearls have not aged as well as some of his earlier stuff and was quite 90s relevant but i wouldn't say that woudl apply to my name is prince at all - i still think it's a massive tune

i really wouldnt want to hear this again. It was average musically when it came out and now, well IMHO its best forgotten. On a postive note, it has serious energy so I would agree that the opener should be cranked up and a tune that everyone knows so something like LGC, 1999, Kiss etc and defo not Purple Rain like on the opening night!
