Aftershow... Sunday 16 Sept. Hey Funky People...
Tonight was the Most Relaxed Aftershow ever... Trying to write this while standing on the bus so a bit tricky... Anyhow The aftershow started around 1am with the curtains all down. Renato was playing. Then the curtains came up. And the band went into "Thank you for letting me be myself" which continiued into a long and funky jam. Songs played; Thank you (for letting me be myself) 3121 Delrious Girls and boys which broke down to only bas. This is sooo funky. Similar to prvious time Then came the "I used to be like you and then everything changed" - Monologue This monologue over a funky beat included lots of hilarious stuff... Mainly talking about the life before he became famous. And also how he now could never go out any more. "I used to by my mother ciggaretts and tampoons at the store" "Yeah, like you never've done that" "I used to go to New York" "Looking at beautiful girls" "and they were looking at me - asking me to move so that they could see my dark, tall more handsome friend" "All that changed" Satisfied Went into "The Three handed girl " - monologue Prince talking about an ex girlfriend that he still loved but.... Then giving lots of exampels about how she was not that perfect girfriend after all. "She was looking at the salt when she asked for the pepper" "She was three handed" "Undressing him with the left hand" "Turning of the lights with the right hand" .. And calling someone else with. Sing a simple song Dancers from the audience were brought on on stage Prince at balcony!!! Prince said something like "Have to get up to the balcony"Its to funky up there" He Then dissapeared from stage Shelby and marva too. Still singing Then suddenly he came out and played a few meters from where I was standing (front row balcony). Sooooo funky Write more later.. Just wanted to share this with you all... -----

Please Princey God, I'd love to come see him in NYC I LOVE THAT CITY It tickles me that the locals have the same sh*tty I'm in a fcukin hurry here attitude as Londoners do but they're always so so nice to me as a Brit and (from my many New Yorker friends) we're often the same here with you guys. Brilliant...I'm rude...but only to local people What i do love is that I'm positive that he now does feel a real affection for London and I'm sure he'll be back in style. And that, my friends, is a jolly good thing....wot wot

OK Back home..
Just have to add this before it's good night While at the balcony Prince lowered his guitarr towards the floor.... as if he really was about to give this away... only holding it in its neck... Then at the last moment he pulled it up again... but people went kind a wild ... Also: "Gotta Broken Heart" "Sing a Simple Song" "What a wonderful world' (piano by Renato) "Lolita" "Everyday people" (started at stage.. and continiued at the balcony) was also played... A lot of other stuff was also played... of which some are unknown to me. (new? material??) or improvisations / improvisede lyrics ie over the what a wonderful world? It was just soo great to see Prince beeing soo relaxed and playful at an aftershow. Marva was looking hotter than usual this night and to top it off... we had the Twins (Maya and Nandy) on stage (as well as sitting 3 meters in front of me during most of the show). So I will not complaining ever again about the balcony seats... [Edited 9/16/07 20:43pm] -----

Not 100% sure, but the begging, cock-eyed, three handed woman seems a bit of a hybrid of songs. Lovely bluesy feel to it, and certainly is a nod to Three handed woman that I think (thanks to the internet) was first recorded by Louis Jordan & His Tympany Five (written by Ben Raleigh/Irv Taylor).
Was great to see him having fun with that and really telling a story...and I did wonder if Katie Melua was going to suddenly appear and join in. It's not a bad song and she's got a nice voice. [Edited 9/16/07 21:37pm]

WOW. JUST WOW. Totally agree about most relaxed aftershow ever. I was right at the front in the clear part of the stage where no speakers were on the stage-left (where Shelby spent most of her time). First time at the total front, but I didn't feel any pushing and the people in the 2-3 rows behind me seemed to have ample dance-space and were all very very nice.
My friend Imelda got up to dance on stage - Shelby did invite me but I really didn't want to lose my perfect space - it was that brilliant. Prince even stayed hovering right over my face with his guitar for a couple of minutes near the beginning - but silly Imelda had to cop a quick feel of his shoes. I just didn't want to distract him away because it felt so unreal to have him that close and there being absolutely nothing between us. Oh, and who left their earring on stage? When Mike Phillips was doing an amazing solo and Prince was wondering around the stage with his towel, he found an earring on the floor and pointed at someone to ask if it was hers. Gave the funniest naughty look at her and then put it in his pocket Then we very briefly met him when he was leaving around 4:15am at the gate. Security kept saying it was pointless waiting (we only waited about 25 mins) and that he'd only get into the car and leave, but he casually strolled over and asked a fgew of us why we were there so late and if we were waiting for taxis. I was too stunned, and I've almost completely lost my voice again to say much, but it was enough for me.

Kept making disapproving faces at him but he didn't look my way for that song!! In the words of Amy Winehouse when asked if she'd work with Katie Melua - "I'd rather have Cat Aids."

WHAT A NIGHT!!!!!
This is without i doubt, the best nite I have ever had, met up with some funky orgers and Prince was simply having a great time, this aftershow will surely go down in History as one of the best he has ever done If it were not for insanity, I would be sane.

Yayyyy!! How cool were WE? Looking back now, I can't believe I actually had the guts to get up on stage first and walk across and shimmy about (I do a litle bit of amdram & singing in groups... but I feel safe because there's other people with me). Prince and his magic powers... LOL! [Edited 9/17/07 2:49am]

What a fantastic night Third time lucky for me, it was just awesome. I'll never forget seeing him up there on the balcony!! Everday people has been one of my favourite songs for years, I couldn't believe it when he started playing. I thought some of the people I saw must have been on here, good to see the people on the stage, you all looked great!! It's only mountains...

SPECIAL. It was great but...why the fuck did he cover that Katie Melua shit? Prince, I'm disappointed in you. Apart from that, the vibe was wicked! I thought I imagined that Katie Melua tune... even Prince couldn't make that piece of shit sound good. But that aside, the music at the aftershow last night was awesome. Just as I started to think, 'I wish I'd bought a standing ticket to get in the thick of it', Prince announced he was coming upstairs to the balcony!! He was right in front of me! Speaking of that, did anyone notice that twat in a trilby clambering over the back of seats, shoving people aside and stepping on their feet (mine included)? A chap in a blue t-shirt nearly laid one on him. If you're reading this mate, I'd have decked him! Good control. no, this guy had a beige trilby and matching outfit I think, and a little man-bag. He was weaving about everywhere, so pretty much everyone in the balcony seats would've had the misfortune of seeing him! "Don't give me no funky, funky blue cheese, we're all members of the animal kingdom..."

Hearing Prince sing that "Nine Million Bicycles" song was possibly the most surreal thing I've heard. I half expected him to break into "Agadoo" at this point. That aside, what a bloody blinding show! I'll always kick myself for not seeing the 28/8 aftershow but the band were seriously good and Cora...I've never seen such a static (in movement) drummer be so damn on point! I guess the little wee fella was good too...

Hind sight is 20/20! He has such a deep voice it does shake you up a bit! Hope you ask next time! Isnt that just true - alot of bass in hes voice esp for someone who sings in falsetto alot! Good to see hes working the fence still!! one thing i noticed when he spoke is that he still has alot of youth in hes voice - you know how ppl who are nearly 50 sound it, he sounded like he did on the muppet show back in the late 90's
