Bambi

Hi all

Have seen "Bambi" mentioned a couple of times here on the forum on " wish lists".

In all my years of Prince concerts across two continents ( Europe and USA) the only time I remember him playing this song was on the second night of his Diamonds and Pearl shows in Paris in 1992 (Christ it rocked!!!)...any other memories of Bambi?????

He played a heavy version of it at Brixton Academy the first time I saw him back in 1998. Was fantastic! Has indigO2 aftershow written all over it... biggrin

He did it a few times in 2002, when he was much more vocal about his beliefs than he is now. And I heard he did it on the Ellen show in 2004, though it wasn't screened (can anyone confirm this or was it just posted as a joke at the time?)

I think it waas 1994 the warm up for Wembley - brilliant - love that track so much - do you think he might oblige before he goes home?

Performed it a few times in 2004 during the Musicology Tour.
I witnessed it in Chicago at the HOB aftershow in 04.

Yeah, I always thought the nude tour was a strange tour coz he wasn't touring on the back of an album unlike previous tours, so it felt abit disjointed, also I think the Irish gigs were stadium gigs, he did a stadium gig in Manchester and it sucked when I went, but I also saw all the Nude shows at Wembley and they were cool, paricularly enjoyed Partyman and Housequake on that tour, so funky ...

I don't think Prince suits open air stadium gigs, his show is much more suited to the arena gigs like NEC/Wembley/O2 etc as he puts on a show rather than just standing there with a guitar like most stadium bands.

Nude was also cool as it was on the same time as the 1990 World Cup in Italy, so was great to watch England play then goto a Prince gig !!!

those shows were the first time i'd seen him, i enjoyed it at the time, but now i've seen that he's capable of so much more with subsequent tours!

there were highlights though...bambi was certainly one of them, the question of u was great too, especially as it hadn't been released then

Why wouldn't he?
If you expect the conventional religious morals to determine which songs he plays, wouldn't this in fact be on top of the list?
A lyric of trying to convert somebody from a homosexual (physical) relationship to a heterosexual (emotional) relationship would surely be played. wink

I was just going to say that myself, not really at odds with his beliefs at all.

Saw a RIPPIN' 'Bambi' at the New Power Soul show in Chicago (I think it was at the Rivera) with Chaka and Larry.

At the Gold experience tour, the same night he played at Wembley, Prince (then known only as prince of course) played two utterly mind-blowing aftershows at a tiny little club (now some semi-posh/pretentious place called Tantra) then called The Emporium.

It was a defining moment in my adolescence, I kid you not. Anyway, he opened the second night (a Wednesday, a school night for me!) with the entire Undertaker album... and then went on to play a further 2 hours plus; man, I didn't sleep for a whole week after.

And I remember after Honky Tonk Woman he said:
"One time I opened for the Rolling Stones. I got booed off stage. Perhaps I shoulda sang that shit. Or perhaps I shoulda sang this..."
And launched into Bambi. Sick.

I'm pretty sure that there was...He played a four song, guitar heavy set before the 'Larry and Chaka Variety Show' began.
