the purple glowstick final night idea..

ok.. so i thought since this idea got a lot of love, it could do with it's own thread..

the idea would be to break out purple glowsticks, all over the arena when prince drops purple rain on the 21st.. and hand them around to give him the suprise of his life

http://www.glow-mania.co....k-c-2.html can do glowsticks in bulk. we might have to ask if they can do an all purple order. but glowsticks.co.uk can , just they cost more.

i figure the way to do this would be, to have people who are going , meet up and take in like 25-30 each and be responsible for a block or some such.

we could by a bulk order and split the cost.

who would be in?

Not sure what it would achieve apart from an even bigger hold in my wallet

someone i saw a few rows in front of me had purple glowsticks and waved em about.

It would be cool to get this into action, but not sure how many people would be interested

actually the idea was initially two pronged, firstly to rid any orgers of any money they might still have after twenty one days of prince.. and secondly, to bring down the government.. wink obviously i didn't really think it thru.. buuut.

On further thoughts it turned out it might be a nice way of saying thanks to Prince for coming to london and playing for us.

Sounds like a good idea, but only really worth it if lots and lots of people join in - would the moderators make this a sticky? Maybe even get our friends on housequake.com to join in? If a few hundred or even thousand of us got the glowsticks, then it would work.

Do we not want the glo stix though to show who are orgers? And 25-30 would just about cover a row, let alone a whole block? I'm up for the glo stick idea as I can't do the T shirt and I would like to be part of the org experience on the 21st.

It's a wicked idea but how much would it cost? It doesn't have to be everyone - how about just people round you so he knows where the Orgers are? cool

My thinking is that if 30 orgers/quakers people were up for taking in 20 glowsticks and handing them out we could get 600 people in under a minute. just tell people to pass them on.. normal people will want to hold them during purple rain if you crack them as you hand them out.. and they see what it is, they rarely have lighters, and they can't use phones..

i guess we'll just have to know.. "we did that" rather than keeping it to just orgers with the glowsticks..

Ah, come on, that's a great idea. Imagine big areas of floor and lower tier all waving identical purple glow-sticks. It's got to be worth a shot!

He'd be bound to spot it. Might give him a laugh. It's worth it just for that.

In bulk, they work out at just 30p each. If enough orgers bought just ten (less than the price of a pint), and handed them out along their row, with instructions to only fire them up for PR, it could work.

Thing is, we'd need at least 40 orgers to sign up to the idea.

We have two so far smile

I would be happy to take a batch in and hand them out but there are 20,000 seats in there! We won't cover everybody so my suggestion stands that only orgers participate. If somebody somewhere is up for buying a batch up front and then arranges (through this forum) for orgers to collect them on the night from the 02, they could then purchase them from the original buyer so that orgers end up with them and the buyer ends up getting the money back.

That's what I think. Happy to participate and contribute a tenner or whatever is needed. I still think though that only orgers should participate rather than orgers paying for a batch of glo stix to hand out for free at the concert. Am I alone in feeling that?

See Synthia Rose's posting - she's found them on ebay for 6p each.

Count me in for distribution - I'm in block 102 I think on the 21st. Happy to contribute financially and hand out to whoever wants to wave them. I will leave it to others to decide whether we want to use the stix to identify orgers or whether we just want aload of purple glo stix waving around during Purple Rain.

Yeah, but they're really small - 5mm diameter. It's like waving a glowing cocktail stick - probably close to invisible. I'm also not sure about waving a bracelet!

Do these people do the 15mm ones?

I still think we should hand them out to people in our row, orgers or not. There's no point each orger only having one... because we'll barely make an impact. Although there's also no point each of us buying 30, because you'll struggle to get them all handed out.

Ten each seems reasonable to me - that's the two people either side of you, three in the row in front, and three behind you. Can do that without leaving your seat.

Just ten orgers in a single block would be 100 people with glow-sticks in that area. Could work.

How about these:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/100...dZViewItem

150mm x 15mm "violet" sticks... seem to be the same as the others from the web retailer mentioned earlier.

Although the postage is nearly as much as the sticks themselves. But they end up about 25p each, which is less than the other quote.

Maybe they can discount the postage a bit for 400 of them?

I'm happy to put up some money to make this happen, although I won't have time on the night to do a lot of "distribution" (e.g. I can't make it to the Holiday Inn)

I think also that there should be two distribution points as not everybody might be able to make it to the Holiday Inn. Some people may be coming straight from work to the 02 and although close to the Holiday Inn, it may be out of their way. If we want to make as big an impact as we can with this then we need to be a bit flexible with the distribution.

Yep... I'm going straight to the O2 off the clipper.

Outside the entrance to the O2 is a no-brainer isn't it? Seeing as we all have to go in that way. Or maybe by the fountains?

(I don't think security can get upset with us selling glow-sticks to people we know)
