No Prince at aftershow tonight 12th

When I was in the queue to indigo2... A mercedez drove up just in front of me and 10 others. Prince came out and told us that he could not play tonight as he had a cold and needed to rest for tomorrows show. Did not say a lot morw but you could tell he needed to rest the voice so..

Anyway let's hope for a great aftershow with the NPG then...

He is not only funky he is also soooo unpredictable...

Just got back. As of when I left he hadn't turned up and I think I heard someone on the stage say he wasn't coming.

Well my 100% run of seeing Prince at the aftershows had to end at some point I suppose. But after 4 from 4 I can hardly complain.

In any case, I thoroughly enjoyed tonights aftershow. Led by Mike Phillips and the NPG horns, was a local band called Rain. Apparently Prince scouted them out last Monday and said he had to get them to play. The female lead vocalist was very, very good and I thought the whole set was good.

There were a lot of horns but not so much that they became boring and the band were pretty funky, especially their bass player. They did a great version of Stevie Wonders Higher Ground and finished with a fine rendition of Ain't Nobody.

Obviously would have been better if Prince was there but I have no complaint with what I saw. The only thing I would have changed would be that they should have announced Prince's absence much sooner. As soon as that was mentioned the main floor became a much more comfortable place to be.
RIP sad

Aww, poor Prince, I hope you feel better soon. Be sure to gargle with warm salt water, eat lots of soup and get plenty of rest. rose

You must have left a little early then!... after about 5 or 10 minutes the hornz came back out followed by Rain for another 10 minutes or so with Mike coming off the stage and wandering round the (by this time) almost deserted floor... It was probably the best bit of the night - well, excluding the "Little Red Riding Hood" bit - at least she had more stage presence than the guy with big hair who came on to sing!!!

It was a shame he wasn't there but I agree with others after all the late nights I'm not suprised, hope he gets better soon smile I saw him on 18th Aug and 6th Sep so should count my prince blessings smile I couldn't do more than 2 or 3 late nights without feeling run down, so I forgive you Prince due to the amazing shows I've seen so far and the fact you are a human being like the rest of us smile

Yep i thought that was busta rhymes for a mo LOL - he did great covers of some tower of power stuff (prince is a big t.o.p. fan) "what is hip" "soul vaccination" come to mind!

red riding hood was hillarious - as was Mike philly, although the rick james references to the bass player did sit to well with me or a few around me , i dunno maybe he is called Rick James and just happens to play bass and has hes hair braided

I must admit I was a bit disappointed last night. I suppose that's not surprising coming off of Sunday's fantastic show which I thoroughly enjoyed and I suppose spoilt me ! Yes, the musicians were good but I just didn't feel the same energy in the room. On Sunday it seemed to fill the entire venue and everybody was up for it. Last night the energy seemed to peter out near the edge of the dance floor. However, I would stress that I am not complaining. I just wanted to give my opinion. As can be seen from earlier posts in this thread, there are others who disagree with me. That's fine. I'm pleased they enjoyed it.
I fully understand Prince's reasons for not appearing though. If he was feeling a bit poorly he needs to save his energy for next week!!

Can someone clarify this, Prince came up to you guys in the queue and said 'I can't play tonight has anyone got some lemsip?'

Raajput, Veej here, what's the deal here - sounds cool if he all spoke to to you.

Was wondering if he'll catch anything during the colds/flu season...

Haha - its all true and i have a huge smile on my face mate, if you had gone to the aftershow - you would have ended up at the same point in the Q as me mate and you would have seen - guess ive had my prince moment!!

Ive left what happened on another post, he didnt say anything other than him having to rest his voice and held hes palm to hes neck as he said it - the other guy who said he goes on org and HQ from Bury said Prince sounded croakey - as he spoke i couldnt tell!!

Oh hang on a minute, did they do that slow one after Ain't Nobody? I know the song but not the title, think it might be called Loving You or something.

How did it end? I'm sure we were still there at the end, left about about quarter to 3.

Also loved little red riding hood, she should be a permanent fixture. biggrin

When did they announce it? I was up in Kings Row and didn't know Prince wasn't playing until the show started.

no cars can go anywhere near the line for the o2 or indigo, so mercs can't drive past you if you are in the line

as for prince telling fans he isn't going to play, and he will play tonight, if you believe that then you will know i actually write all of princes songs

Nope... After all the singers had left and the lights came on there was a few minutes of nothing... then a group near the stage started cheering and clapping and Mike, Greg and Lee came out and "blew" for a few moments before running off and bringing the band back out. They jammed for about another 10 minutes with Mike roaming the floor and chanting "Can I kick it?"
"Yes he did!"
They (eventually)finished at just before 3...

So Mike was actually on the main dance floor? We missed that then. Oh well at least Prince didn't show up. biggrin

as quite a few people on here saying same thing, why can't you just believe it

there is like a mesh fence next to end part of queue, normally a van there and some others and equip being taken out

Aren't you always camped at the front of the queue? Didn't think you would have any experience of where it ends up. You do know it goes outside the doors of the O2 don't you? wink lol

Aymiderham- think what we have here is a classic case of e-n-v-y. Basically, the subject is in a state of deep shock cos they can't believe they missed out & are currently now in denial- hence the disbelief. Don't even rise to the bait. You got what, let's face it, we all want- yahooooo!
