13th Sep main show + my first Aftershow Apologies if a bit all over the place, last night was a bit of a blur, was my first aftershow and still buzzing.
The main show was my 3rd show and got to say first half of it I wasn't getting that into it as much as the others. (1st night i was on upper tier, 2nd night was on floor block D2). I was sitting in block 106 which was a good block but wasn’t feeling too well which didn't help + right by the aisle which was really distracting, have never seen so many people in one night up and down but oh well (oh and can’t forget the banshees behind screaming along to the piano medley - don’t give up your day jobs ladies!). Also thought it felt a bit rushed but second half of the show seemed to really pick up (for me anyway)he really got the crowd going and did a nice setlist. Bit of a surprise seeing Elton John as well although two girls behind seemed more impressed and were ‘bowing’ to him- eh?what about the little guy? Loved the ‘final encore’ after the lights had come up, everyone running down the steps again, was like being in one massive party. Love Bizarre – first time i’ve heard that live, was brilliant. As for the Aftershow it’s so good having the contrast of the arena and the clubby feel of the Indigo. I’ve been waiting a long time to see this sort of show, over the years (from 1988 onwards!) i’ve never managed to get to an aftershow and this is what it’s really about for me,especially after you’ve heard stuff from One Nite Alone etc. It’s great seeing Prince doing his greatest hit in the arena (esp.as maybe for the last time) but from when he stepped on stage with his Hohner, being able to hear every note, every guitar lick and really appreciate what a superb musician he (and his band) is was awesome for me, thought the sound was spot on (after the hit and miss sound quality in the arena). I managed to find space on the floor around the middle and nicely surprised to see how considerate most people were, no people barging to the front etc, everyone just appreciating the music. The guitar on Beautiful Strange (that off Rave unto Joy fantastic?)and Gotta Whole Lotta Love was so, so good (couldn’t understand why no-one at the front was moving to Whole Lotta Love though - it kicked arse), Rock Steady (ahhh that bassline!!), 7... Was also cool to see Shelby and Martha? do their stuff, don’t think i know the song but Misty Blue? by Shelby was amazing - so funny seeing P doing his ‘overcome with emotion’ routine with the towel, i’m sure he flicked it at Shelby’s butt at one point! Anyway, could go on and on but already rambling, i’m off to have some Lemsip, put some P on the stereo and put my feet up, i’m finished.....until the 21st anyway, will be raring to go again. OK - hope he turns up for the rest of the aftershows for everyone....

It's only how I remember it but when Shelby was belting out the song, Prince was walking / staggering behind her from one side of the stage to the other, mopping his brow, fanning himself and leaning on Morris Hayes to support himself as he was being so blown away by her singing. While he was at one side the side of the stage behind her i'm sure he rolled the towel up and flicked it at her - i think we'd have known about it though if he'd made contact, she may have hit a new note!
